:howdy :notworthy

What a bush I had yesterday from General Asid and Pretoria, I reviewed the replay, I made a great tactical error, instead of joining General Blond, taking his right hand, I took the enemy behind, wanting to counter the cavalry, result? I was wedged between the enemy army and the end map in a very difficult strategic position, it was at the foot of the hill and practically all the enemy army had a strong position on the hill, besides, I did not have artillery and less than 3,000 men only infantry in fact only one brigade. After an initial confrontation with the enemy cavalry (I had formed the squares) this, he retired taking position on the hill, here's my mistake. Instead of returning to my footsteps, I continued to heal the cavalry and without realizing it, I offered my left flank to the enemy infantry half-hill, at this point, it was just a target shot by the French as such it was not enough, I ordered a tactical retreat, the map ended before the retreat, and the soldiers stuck without responding to any of my orders. Beautiful and well-deserved victory of the French. P.S. the story of the battle is seen from my position.  :howdy :notworthy

Great Aar Colbert :thumbsup

I think you're right, it was a mistake to move in that position but this is the good of this game! You noticed about your mistake only after the battle, viewing the replay. In battle you have to decide quickly and with poor informations you have or you can see.

It's difficult if not impossible to not make mistakes and this is true for newbie as for veteran players too.

In this battle the objective was near the west edge of the map. Me and Colbert start from northeast.

Praetoria, the commander in chief, and Asid were closer to the objective so they had all the time to set up their deployment.

For the attacker the terrain was very very bad.

North of the objective there were woods then, moving clockwise, there was a narrow corridor northeast, then again a wood with another narrow corridor to the southeast. South of the objective there was a hill with a stream running to the map edge.

So there was only one possible plan for me.

Colbert should had probe from northeast but knowing the fact that he have no artillery and cavalry I ordered him to be very cautious.

With a brigade, two batteries, a cavalry brigade from Brunswick and a couple of jagers battalions I tried to attack from east-southeast.

When we arrived near the objective with prefect timing, Colbert told me that he have cavalry and infantry in front of him.

I thought I had a good possibility to push on the objective because enemy cavalry was on Colbert side.

So I deployed two jagers battalions as screen while I deployed cavalry behind them. I set in position also an artillery battery (the other went lost for a while).

When I started to move forward my cavalry against the objective which was held by quite few troops I saw French cavalry moving back from Colbert position to protect the objective.

In the meantime another cavalry brigade appears from behind the southern hill threatening my left flank . :'(

I stopped my advance and prepared to receive cavalry on the flank.

They were horse grenadiers and quickly defeat maybe two or three of my squadrons.

I tried to oppose some squares but the artillery started to hit them hardly so I left the position and slowly fallback near the woods.

Only on my right I did something good with the second battery and a combination of skirmishers and cavalry but was just to buy time to retreat.

No more way to attack. The French won the battle :howdy
