Steam Achievements beta test

Dear captains,

We are excited to announce that the 2024.1 beta version of UBOAT has been updated with support for Steam Achievements. This new feature adds an extra layer of challenge and recognition for your accomplishments in the depths of the Atlantic.


Achievements in the beta version are not permanent and they will be reset once the full release of the game is shipped.



We are introducing them now to gather your feedback and ensure that they are all achievable in a correct manner.

Please note, that if you use console commands, no more achievements will be awarded during that campaign.

We look forward to your feedback on this feature!

There is a new patch ready for 2024.1 beta.


Localization:
- Ukrainian localization update by vovanvoks.

- Fix: Resolved various issues with fonts used for S. Chinese version of the game.

Achievements:
- Added achievements to the game. Their addition is intended as a beta test of achievements. All achievements gained during beta test will be reset at the time of a full release.

Crew:
- When crew members are drowning inside flooded compartments, they no longer speak that it's hard to breath, but make a more suitable drowning noises.
- Cook now stops to work when a silent run is ordered.
- Fix: Officers could still perform a panic animation in some cases despite a previous change to that in Preview 18.
- Fix: Improvements to passing through obstacles by the crew inside the U-boat, for example when encountering a cleaning sailor on Type II near the radio room.
- Fix: Echosounder reading order was not working when there was some water inside the compartment.
- Fix: Various issues after changing the boat and promoting one of the officers to be a new skipper.
- Fix: If a quick return to port was initiated, while having exhaused officers, the officers were speaking one after the other that they are rested and ready to work during the return cutscene.
- Fix: Officers were sometimes speaking with a low-pitched voice, if they were sent on an external mission and a pause was enabled.

UI:
- Added information who sent the message in the new radio message reading view.
- Added an option to delete crew task presets.
- Lock icons in the periscope were reworked and now appear on the top bearing scale.
- Fix: If a new message notification was clicked when a radioman was walking to his station, there was no reaction to the clicks.
- Fix: Improved reliability of selecting units by clicks on the map.
- Fix: If torpedo launchers UI was open, at least one launcher was flooded, but all launchers were un-ticked, there was information present that the gyro angle is being synchronized, while in fact it's not synchronized in such a case.

Torpedo fire systems:
- Fix: After moving a cursor above a salvo spread angle indicator, the displayed tooltip was displaying a value indicated by the inner pointer, while it makes more sense from the user's standpoint to display the value of the outer one.
- Fix: Schnellgang lights on gyro angle receivers were sometimes pointing a wrong synchronization direction.

Modding:
- Fix: Compilation errors for mods using Cysharp.Text namespace in the code.

Uboatopedia:
- Added a possibility to open Uboatopedia from the in-game escape menu.
- Updated Uboatopedia in English, German and Polish.

Audio:
- Changed a sound effect played when clicking on campaign objective photos on the map.

Ports:
- Added extra defence to Aruba.
- Fix: It wasn't possible to change flotilla from Marseille and Brest. These ports were also not appearing as a destination for flotilla changes. This fix may require a new campaign to work.
- Fix: If a quick return to port was requested when the U-boat was at a periscope depth, the boat was sometimes partially submerging during the return cutscene. In such cases, the skipper was also sometimes starting to run in the direction of a conning tower during the cutscene with an orchestra.
- Fix: Issues with moving onto the U-boat from La Rochelle with a bunker in FPP.

Type II:
- The gauge at the stern of the boat between the officer bunks was changed to be a depth meter Papenberg gauge.

Missions:
- Fix: In the side-mission where command asks to locate a lost U-boat, if the target U-boat is sunk, the mission is now cancelled, since it's no longer possible to investigate the target boat.
- Fix: In the weather station placement assignment, if the radio transmission was received, the crew sent on land was automatically returning back, even if the U-boat was submerged or out of range.

Graphics:
- Fix: The view could freeze in certain cases when zooming map without an enabled upscaling during a snowy weather.
- Fix: Due to an error, in some cases, waves could be rendered at their full intensity in enclosed areas like submarine pens.

General:
- Added voiceover to the commands on the gyrocompass tool.
- Fix: Gyrocompass commands weren't working correctly, when they were used after plotting a route on a map.
- Fix: Messages with personal news sent from the flotilla and a message from the command that the enemy is aware of the mission performed by the U-boat, were having player's ship specified as the sender in the journal.
- Fix: After positioning the orbiting camera exactly at the bow of a moving U-boat and then opening and closing the map, the camera was passing right through the interior of the U-boat and some graphical issues were occurring during this process.
- Fix: After quitting to the main menu from an existing game and starting a new playthrough, blueprint points from the previous playthrough were carried over to the new one.
- Fix: Probable fix for two U-boats displayed on each other in a new U-boat selector screen. We will appreciate confirmation from the community, if this issue is resolved.
- Fix: Issues with air toxicity in Type II conning tower.
- Fix: Fixes to several errors spotted in the logs sent to us using the in-game bug reporting tool.

Localization:

UI:
- Added an option in the control settings to disable a confirmation popup that appears when attempting to swap between diesel and electric engines.
- Added an explanation on a crew list why a sailor was hospitalized, in case that he was hospitalized long-term with an unknown duration (currently it's the case only with tuberculosis).
- Fix: The cooldown for alarm and silent run in the TAB menu was counted only when the TAB menu was open.
- Fix: Item names weren't translated, when they were appearing as a requirement to select one of the options during an external interaction.
- Fix: Skill names that appear as a requirement to select one of the options during an external interaction, now have a suffix telling specifically that they are skills to avoid misunderstandings.
- Fix: Headquarters task details window wasn't always reliably disappearing after a click on the background.

Crew:
- Fix (regression of Preview 22): The cook could stop towork in the game states saved in previous versions of the game. For game states already affected by this problem, please turn on/off the alarm or a silent run to make it work.
- Fix: If a sailor assigned to radioman with a Medical Coordinator skill has treated a wounded crew member and he had wounds requiring hospitalization, there were several issues present afterwards - the exclamation above the sailor's head wasn't disappearing and he was moving away instead of sitting on the wounded crew member's bunk.
- Fix: Lock marker was appearing in a wrong position, if a periscope view was zoomed in using a control key.
- Fix: During a high time compression, wounded sailors could fall out of the boat's interior and drown.

Missions:
- Fix: After reaching a patrol target area and sinking at least a one ship, the GRT displayed among the objectives was having counted in all ships sunk before reaching the destination.

Type II:
- Fix: It wasn't possible to open/close the hatch between the control room and the conning tower from FPP, while being in the control room.

Achievements:
- Fix: Argentinian Escape achievement was impossible to obtain.

Uboatopedia:
- Added a possibility to open Uboatopedia from the main menu (currently it's only partial, full document will be added before the full release).

Ports:
- Fix: Citizens could still walk on water in Bergen.

Graphics:
- Fix: The view was stopping to be updated and there were render pipeline errors present in the log, when looking from a certain spot in the bow torpedo room on Type VII U-boat towards the stern of the boat.
- Fix: Volumetric lighting emitted by flars could have some artifacts when observed in FPP or in a gun manual mode view.

General:
- Fix: It was possible to undock from a port, even when there were goods loaded onto the U-boat, after switching to electric engines on the surface.
- Fix: On a first use under the water after starting a new campaign, the ventilation system wasn't refreshing the air. This issue may persist for one use in older game states.
- Fix: After loading a saved game state, it was possible to start in a FPP mode of a different character than the one which was being controlled when the game state was saved.
- Fix: If a periscope was fully extended at a periscope depth and then officer who was using it, was unassigned from it, the periscope visibility penalty was stopping to be updated and the periscope could be spotted even when the U-boat was deep under the water.
- Fix: Enemy aircraft could indefinitely circle around the port after an air raid. There was a similar fix in Preview 14, but it was happening in different circumstances.

Since entering Early Access, UBOAT has evolved tremendously thanks to your invaluable feedback and support. We've refined gameplay mechanics, expanded features, and polished every aspect of the submarine warfare simulation you've come to enjoy.

UI:
- Added a possibility to hide contact tooltips on map by pressing ALT, to make it easier to use map tools.
- Added a warning in the torpedo launchers UI, that the periscope was manually rotated along with a button to reset that rotation. This was a common reason of unusual salvos reported using F11 bug reporting tool. This warning appears only when salvo visualization is enabled in the settings.
- Added a bearing display in a ship selection panel and reworked the overall layout of this panel.
- Fix: After hovering a control that displays a number of working sailors and switching view mode using any keyboard shortcut, the tooltip from that control would remain on the screen and not disappear.
- Fix: Values of various parameters displayed in the tooltips that were calculated from the modifier trees were sometimes incorrect. This problem was affecting only values displayed in the UI, while the actual values used in the simulation were unaffected.
- Fix: UI was entering into an invalid state, when any HQ-related notification was clicked in an interaction view (for example in the radio menu).
- Fix: It was possible to set "Any" as a sailor group schedule entry using a right mouse button, even though it wasn't intended and couldn't be set with a left mouse button.

Graphics:
- New & updated textures for Type VII interiors for a more efficient memory use. These updates should improve the apparent texture resolution within the same texture budget.
- New textures for binoculars, buckets, footbridge and several other objects.
- Fix: U-boats displayed in the U-boat selector were very blurry, if a low UI scale was set in the settings.
- Fix: Fixed various texture issues in several scenes that appear during external interactions, for example during a meeting with another U-boat.
- Fix: Resolved various issues with behaviour of lines between masts on Liberty ships after they took damage.
- Fix: Rendering distance in FPP was sometimes too low during a foggy weather and was clipping objects at distances at which they were still clearly visible.

Ports:
- Fix: It was possible to spot merchant ships occluded by buildings in the southern part of the port of Wilhelmshaven, while departing on a default route.
- Fix: Improved the default undock route in Marseille and La Spezia.
- Fix: Large gap near Sydney.
- Fix: NPC ships weren't correctly avoiding coasts near Cardiff, if the tide was low.

Uboatopedia:
- Updated Uboatopedia in English and German.

Crew:
- Fix: Cleaning sailor could sometimes clip with a torpedo in the stern torpedo room on Type VII U-boats.
- Fix: Sailors could break limbs due to a heart attack.
- Fix: Crewmen could sometimes perform certain actions indefinitely, like trying to carry a wounded sailor to safety, if something has interrupted the animation.
- Fix: Extend periscope button wasn't having any effect for a long time after moving periscope manually.
- Fix: Sailor rescued in the Enigma assignment was lacking a background story.
- Fix: Fixed several mismatched voice clips in the German voice no. 4.

Missions:
- Fix (regression): In tutorial #4, the "Set destination" objective was duplicated and one of the copies was remaining active for the entire duration of the mission.

Technical:
- Reorganized and decreased dependencies between game's asset packs to decrease memory use, especially during long playthroughs.

General:
- Fix: After saving and reloading the game many times, it was possible for the wave splash effects on the bow and conning tower to move away from their correct locations.
- Fix: During view mode transitions in the captain only mode, for a fraction of a second, water and an incorrect fog could be visible inside the U-boat.
- Fix: After zooming out from the radio menu using a mouse wheel, the camera could sometimes switch to an unexpected mode for example FPP mode of another officer.
- Fix: Officer assigned to AA gun on Type IIA and Type IID could accidentally hit sailors on the conning tower.

Graphics:
- Continuation of texture work for Type VII interiors. These new changes should improve performance on systems that experience lags due to a texture streaming feature.
- Fix: Various improvements to the bottom part of Type II engine room overall look and resolved various issues with volumetric fog that could appear there.
- Fix: Minor graphical issues with one of the cargo hold scenes on merchant ships.
- Fix (regression): Incorrect texture on an external hatch on Type VII U-boats. Also fixed an incorrect texture on antenna on preview models of several U-boats and incorrect texture on starboard wooden panels on Type VIIB conning tower.

UI:
- Added a hint to a manual mode of all devices that pressing ALT will show UI, while TAB will open the quick orders menu (it's the same hint that was used earlier exclusively in regular FPP). This hint may be disabled in the settings.
- Aesthetical improvements to Crew Specializations screen.
- Fix: Loading free items onto the ship is no longer mentioned in the budget log.
- Fix: Updated miniatures of U-764 and U-995 to have submarine pens in the background.
- Fix: In some cases, after clicking on a new message notification, while radioman was walking to his station, nothing was happening.
- Fix: Uboatopedia and Credits buttons in the main menu were remaining in the clicked state after use.

Audio:
- Fix: Radio music could sometimes desynchronize between individual speakers on the ship and have some echo.
- Fix: Radio music was remaining audible during map cutscenes, but it usually didn't fit there.

Ports:
- Fix: Terrain issue near Narvik.
- Fix: Some warehouses didn't had a visible roof from the inside.

Mission:
- Fix: Reworked initial objectives for the rendezvous with a Japanese submarine assignment. There were several issues with the previous objectives.

General:
- Using a mouse wheel to zoom out from a manual mode of a device now always switches the view to the section view of the U-boat (when playing with normal perspective selected in the settings). Previously, it was dependent on the previous views and sometimes confusing.
- Fix: Fixed several errors spotted in the logs sent with the use of the in-game bug reporting tool.
- Fix: It wasn't possible to completely disable periscope stabilization by editing game sheets.

Type VII:
- Stern gyro angle receiver is now implemented for manual use on Type VII U-boats. Warning: There may be minor issues present with it in old game states until changing the boat at least once to a different type.

Graphics:
- Updates to Type VII textures.
- Fix: DLSS, FSR, TAA and motion blur effects weren't working correctly on the sky. This had various side effects, for example, it could blur the stars on the sky.
- Fix: Dido-class cruisers didn't had a correctly rendered ambient on them and looked somewhat off.
- Fix: Labels on the map could intensively flicker during cutscenes, if FSR or DLSS were used.
- Fix: Smoke could sometimes appear for a short time in the middle of the sea with no ships nearby.
- Fix (regression): Wrong texture was appearing on the table in battery room no. 2 after it was folded out.

UI:
- Fix: Targeting symbols on a contact list weren't disappearing outside scroll range.
- Fix: Gyro angle displayed in the tooltips on a gyro angle receiver, was sometimes outside of the range used on the physical dials (0 to 360 degrees).
- Fix: When there were any orders listed in the bottom left part of the screen, they were clipping with buttons used to switch the map modes.

Uboatopedia:
- Fix: When Uboatopedia was opened, there was a pause sound effect played in the background.

Ports:
- Fix: Some areas were a bit too shallow near Brest and it was hard to leave the port during a low tide.

Crew:
- Fix: Improved alignment of several crew animations related to torpedo loading in the stern torpedo room and animations used near engines on Type VIIs.

Technical:
- Optimizations to memory usage and overall performance.

General:
- Fix: U-boat was moving considerably slower than it should with its current speed, on the two highest time compression levels.
- Fix: Shot down aircraft floating on the sea could explode after being rammed by an U-boat.

Missions:
- Fix: In tutorial #3, if player has assigned sailors to officers up to the limit, it wasn't later possible to assign sailors to the officer when tutorial asked for that, without freeing them first from the other officers.

UI:
- Fix: There was still one tooltip left, where torpedo gyro angle could be displayed outside of 0 to 360 degrees range.
- Fix: It wasn't possible to use Czech characters while naming a point on the map.
- Fix: It wasn't explained in the description of Turm I, II and IV HQ tasks, that those conning towers are meant for Type VII U-boats.
- Fix: "Course to view" button now also works correctly in the other camera modes than a periscope.

Graphics:
- DLSS updated to version 3.7.20 from version 2.2.
- Fix: With some graphic settings, snow was visible through walls.

Uboatopedia:
- Added a Japanese version of Uboatopedia.
- Updated English, German and Polish versions.

Ports:
- Fix: While departing from Kiel and plotting a route to a destination somewhere on the Baltic Sea or north of Denmark, the automatic route was going through the lock of Kiel canal without a reason.

Crew:
- Fix: One of the officers on U-47 didn't had an assigned role by default.

Modding:
- It's now possible to define crew customization options in Crew.xlsx / Customization. This allows for adding new clothes etc. with mods.

General:
- From now on, after changing U-boat to another type, all stored items are moved to the new unit.
- Increased the time it takes for the officers to consider torpedo a miss.

Dear captains,

Here is a changelog of the last beta update, with which it becomes the new stable version of the game.


Localization:
- Portuguese localization update by AlexShuma.
- Spanish localization update by Miguel Haakon.
- Japanese localization update by かねのもうじゃ.
- Korean localization update.
- German localization update by Ruby.

Graphics:
- Updated textures on most conning towers.
- Updated textures on one of the silo types in ports.
- Fix: Fixed navigation light colors on conning towers that had them reversed.
- Fix: During some transitions from FPP to section view, sea was not rendered.
- Fix: Wrong texture on pipes in battery room no. 2 on Type VII.
- Fix: Corrected position of one of the valves on Type VII.

Launcher:
- Added an installable package with an additional camouflage and U-995 historical emblem.

Uboatopedia:
- Updated Uboatopedia in Japanese, Spanish, English and German.
- A full document is now accessible from the main menu.

Modding:
- Updated Unity mod template to the latest version of Unity. Please note, that after importing assemblies into the project, Unity restart is required for the modding project to function correctly. We are looking how to make it unnecessary.

Type VII:
- Fix: It wasn't possible to turn off power in conning tower on Type VII U-boats in FPP (the action for that on power distribution board was missing).

Crew:
- Increased once again the time after which crew reports torpedo as a miss.
- Fix: The skipper could freeze and not be possible to control in FPP after the cutscene with salutation to orchestra.
- Fix: Problem with a sailor that wasn't hiding inside the boat and was making it impossible to dive.
- Fix: Decreased likelihood of having several cooks in the starting crew.
- Fix (regression of Preview 27): It wasn't possible to remove accessories of a character on the customization screen.

Ports:
- Fix: Corrected position of the U-boat in the welcome to port cutscene in La Spezia.

Missions:
- Speeded up terrain loading in the mission with recovering gold from a merchant ship's wreck. Previously, it was taking a long time and the wreck wasn't appearing until seabed was fully loaded.

General:
- Fix: Torpedo could be sometimes launched with an attached maintenance cable.
- Fix: After switching a boat to a different type, a button for switching between manual and electric steering mode was stopping to work.
- Fix: After leaving to the main menu from a playthrough where any U-boat types were unlocked and starting a new game, the unlocks were carried over to the new game.

Localization:

Controls:
- From now on, a keyboard shortcut for displaying UI in FPP and device manual modes works as a toggle (it's no longer required to keep it pressed). This behaviour may be configured in the control settings of the game.
- Fix: It's no longer possible to order a routine hydrophone check with a keyboard shortcut when U-boat is docked.

UI:
- Fix: Resolved various problems with UI disappearing or being in a wrong state, that could happen when a view change was initiated during a transition to another view, for example by toggling a free camera mode with a keyboard shortcut during a transition to dialogue or by entering a character customization screen during a dialogue.

Ports:
- Fix: An error written in a loop to a log while being near Helgoland without a submarine pen.

General:
- Fix: Fixes to various errors spotted in logs in bug reports.

Dear captains,

There is a new patch ready for version 2024.1.


Localization:
- French localization update by FvJ and Placebo.
- Japanese localization update by かねのもうじゃ.
- Ukrainian localization update by vovanvoks.

Graphics:
- Fix: When emblems were previewed in the U-boat upgrade mode, the currently painted emblem was flickering in between selections.
- Fix: Once Turm 0 received damage and became deformed, the emblem was disappearing from it until repaired.
- Fix: Paper pattern on the map was heavily vibrating after zooming in the map as close as possible.
- Fix: When a Type IID U-boat was submerged and the section view was being switched between an interior view and a deck view, for a second there was a fragment of conning tower visible that was completely dry.
- Fix: Emblems were appearing a bit blurry when DLSS or FSR were in use.

UI:
- The gyrocompass tool button for plotting a parallel course is now inactive, until a torpedo solution quality for the current target rises to at least 50%.
- Fix: A quick return to port button could be deactivated due to having not enough fuel, even if it was selected at the start of the campaign that this should not be a requirement.

Ships:
- Increased the rudder force on E and F class destroyers, their turning circle was too high.

Tutorial:
- Fix: It was possible for the quick return to port to be unavailable due to having not enough fuel after completing tutorial #2, #3 or #4 (it was still possible to return manually, as fuel is unlimited in tutorials).
- Fix: Tutorial no. 2 and tutorial no. 3 were failing at the beginning when they were started from Brest.

AI:
- Fix: NPC ships were crashing on land quite easily near ports when a high time compression was in use, the avoidance behaviour wasn't reacting quickly enough.

Missions:
- Fix: If a button for starting the selected assignment was rapidly clicked twice, the assignment could start in two copies and have various issues.

Ports:
- Fix: Minor aesthetical fixes to La Rochelle.

General:
- Fix: It was possible for the exclamation mark to remain above the head of a character that participated in a crew event. After activating that event again, it was usually not functional.
- Fix: Resolved various issues with Tight Packing skill.
- Fix: If a campaign was started in 1943 - 1945 and some time was skipped in the port, very outdated newspapers were appearing.
- Fix: Game could start to operate in a slow motion, even though pause wasn't toggled.

Dear captains,

There is a new patch ready for version 2024.1.


Localization:
- Portuguese localization update by AlexShuma.
- Russian localization update by Hard.

- Ukrainian localization update by vovanvoks.

Missions:
- Fix: Escort duty assignments weren't being generated in many languages aside from English.
- Fix: Norwegian campaign assignments were considered as non-routine and it was hard to complete it within the time limit, if a routine mission style was selected when a new campaign was created.

Crew:
- Fix: Issue with an officer not being selectable, because he was participating in an event that was already ended. This fix will repair this situation in an existing game states.
- Fix: "Merchant" personal skill now works differently when the game is running in a captain-only mode. It's no longer a requirement to initiate a dialogue with that officer in such a case - it's enough to have him in the crew.
- Fix: Officers were stopping to work on the navigator's station when any ships were nearby. It was changed to work in a following way: 1. officers stop to work at the navigator's station when U-boat is in a known location, since navigation quality doesn't fall in such a case, 2. navigation quality work is considered slightly less profitable during an alarm.

Audio:
- Fix (regression): Ambient sounds were too quiet in the hydrophone.

Graphics:
- Minor updates to port textures.

UI:
- Fix: Energy bars of regular sailors are no longer displayed during external interactions, for example when a merchant ship is being inspected, since this mechanic is relevant only to officers.

General:
- Fix: It was possible for the time to permanently slow down during tutorial, if a game state was saved at a certain time. This fix will repair this situation in existing game states. Please report that to us, if some variant of this problem would persist, but so far it was fixed in all reports that we've received.
- Fix: Keyboard shortcuts for switching between the section view and the outer view weren't working in an upgrade mode. This made it not possible to switch views in this mode, when "Scroll between view modes" setting was disabled.
- Fix: Resolved some issues with trade UI not working.
- Fix: When a keyboard shortcut for binoculars view was pressed and during the view transition, a dialogue with port officer was initiated, the officer could end up in an incorrect state and it wasn't possible to control him in FPP.
- Fix: Most likely resolved all cases of disappearing UI elements in a section view and an external view.
- Fix: If the game was running with disabled contacts on the map and at that point another game state was loaded with enabled contacts on the map, the fog of war would remain uncovered inside the sight circle. This problem was also happening the other way around.

Localization:
- Ukrainian localization update by vovanvoks.

Simulation:
- Added a new realism setting that specifies the desired type of periscope stabilization in the game. There are three choices:

    - Enabled: This is the previous default behavior with stabilized periscopes and UZO.
    - Enabled (partial): This setting is similar to the previous one, but there is no additional stabilization when a chronometer tool for velocity estimation is open in the periscope or UZO view.
    - Disabled: All forms of periscope and UZO stabilization are disabled.

- Fix: Hydrophone contacts are no longer possible to appear through lands.

Crew:
- Fix: It's no longer possible to simultaneously load several torpedo tubes or perform maintenance on torpedoes inside them, if those tasks would require the same space to complete.
- Fix: Sunglasses were never appearing on randomly generated people due to using a wrong ID for them. There was only an error present in the log whenever they were meant to appear.

Achievements:
- Fix: "Convoy? What Convoy?" achievement wasn't possible to obtain.

Missions:
- Fix (regression since Patch 6): Spy, war correspondent and a demolition team leader could no longer be welcomed until they arrived at the deck.

UI:
- Added color-coding for positive and negative budget changes in the tooltip (they are now green and red respectively).

General:
- Hand binoculars are now stabilized, since officer can move them freely with hands. Their stabilization is unaffected by the newly added realism setting described above.
- Time compression is now disabled when entering a view with external interaction or when entering a radioman's menu.
- Improved the loading time of terrain near Brest.

Crew:
- Fix: An issue where the cook or cleaner could be missing when expanded crew management was disabled. This fix also improves crew shift management, ensuring the correct number of sailors are assigned to each shift even if some crew members become unavailable while they're active.

Missions:
- Troopship convoys generated in escort duty assignments are no longer affected by the convoy size realism setting. They shouldn't be larger than they were by default. It was also making these assignments impossible to loose, since enemies weren't able to sink as many ships.

UI:
- Fix (regression of Patch 7): Repaired an issue with cyrillic characters in the main menu while setting up a new campaign.
- Fix: When playing a game without any periscope stabilization (such option was introduced in Patch 7), it's no longer a requirement to hold a hotkey for half a second to select a target. Instead, it's now enough to press it.

Simulation:
- Fix: Binoculars weren't stabilized, if they were opened by pressing a shortcut button on an officer's portrait.

Ports:
- Fix: Improved the default undock route in Marseille.
- Fix: It was possible for two merchant ships to spawn in each other in Bergen.

General:
- Fix: Repaired one problem that could make it impossible to save a game state.

There is a new patch ready for version 2024.1.


Localization:
- Japanese localization update by かねのもうじゃ.

Missions:
- Fix: It wasn't possible to start an escort duty assignment associated with Mediterranean Operations campaign objective, if the game was running in s. chinese, japanese, korean, russian or ukrainian.

Achievements:
- Fix: If saved game states from various playthroughs were loaded in a certain sequence, it was possible to not get The Long Haul or Ace of the Depths achievements after completing a campaign that was eligible to have them.

UI:
- Added a dropdown for switching between the section view and the external view to the upgrade screen.
- Added notifications when major resources become completely depleted. Previously, there were notifications only about them reaching a low level. Additionally, when such notifications appear, time compression is being stopped.
- Fix: When a new assignment was being selected and new choices were requested at a cost of reputation, it was possible that a patrol area of previously selected patrol was becoming stuck on the map. This issue was happening only in some languages.
- Fix: Updated icons of Turm I, Turm II and Turm IV research on the HQ map. They were still using the previous naming convention for T1, T2 and T4.
- Fix: Improved description of improved conning towers research to specify that these conning towers are meant specifically for Type VIIC and Type VIIC/41. Previously, this description mentioned Type VII generally, but that wasn't true for Type VIIB.
- Fix: Improved behaviour of dropdowns that expand automatically when cursor hovers over them. Sometimes they weren't expanding, if they were hovered back quickly after unhovering.
- Fix: If loading of cargo from a wreckage was ordered and then the wait screen was left, then after coming back to it, the wait time was going below zero.

Graphics:
- Fix: Partial and full submarine pens in La Rochelle had outdated lightmaps and occlusion culling data and had minor artifacts.
- Fix: Resolved artifacts due to a parallax effect on some port surfaces that were appearing when camera was getting close to them.

Ports:
- Fix: Snow was missing during winter on a fragment of Port of Arkhangelsk.

General:
- From now on, realism percentages are computed using only settings that were present in the game at the time the campaign was being started. This means that a game started with realism at 90% or higher will remain eligible for Ace of the Depths achievement despite new realism settings being introduced to the game later on in future versions.
- Time compression is now disabled after reaching the end of a plotted route.
- Fix: Periscope was remaining locked on a target when a chronometer tool was opened, making it impossible to measure target's speed when "Enabled (partial)" option was selected for periscope stabilization when a campaign was being started.
- Fix: Improvements to leaving U-boat in FPP through the gangway on Type VII U-boats.
- Fix: A rare issue where a contact could become "stuck" and be constantly displayed at the same direction despite U-boat moving.
