"The AI for General Staff is literally state of the art and unparalleled for a commercial computer wargame. Dr. Sidran's doctoral thesis detailed the successful completion of an unsupervised learning AI that is unique in commercial computer wargames."

A learning AI for a Computer-War-Simulation? ... that is something badly missing, indeed.

Hi Sandman

Thanks for posting this. I thought I had posted this a while back.

I am not convinced about the claims made by the developer concerning the AI. I contacted him several times with no response.

- not convinced:
yeah, thats why I put a questionmark behind my comment.

- posted a while back:
I checked by forum search. Didnt see anything. Perhaps you deleted to punish him for not answering?  :lol

- contact to dev:
I didnt try, yet, but I am surely not as communicative like you  :lol. He claims to be responsive for any question and interested in being promoted in wargamer groups.

Still the project seems to be very interesting. Even if the AI isnt such as he claims, it still could be an interesting very flexible war-sim. If the AI does better than those in so many programs on the market, it already helps.

But yes, being suspecious also helps a lot saving some coins from getting busted.

Unfortunately that is not the case.

It is good to discuss this here though  :thumbsup

About

The General Staff: Black Powder Wargaming System is the ultimate in simulating 18th and 19th century land warfare. General Staff: Black Powder is built around the revolutionary MATE (Machine Analysis of Tactical Environments) tactical artificial intelligence originally created for DARPA that is capable of analyzing battlefield tactical positions and making recommendations in real-time to combat commanders. The General Staff: Black Powder Battle Designer Bundle, sold separately, is a suite of tools (Army Editor, Map Editor & Scenario Editor) to import your own simulations into the General Staff: Black Powder Wargaming System.

Features

  • Comes with four famous Black Powder Era battles including Antietam, Quatre Bras, Ligny, Manasass Campaign and many more to come.
  • Play in Simulation mode that uses a detailed model of the battle. Orders are given by courier. Combat resolution is the result of equations that evaluate leadership, morale, expertise, range of weapons, accuracy curves, unit strength, etc. Plan your moves in advance and coordinate your forces to achieve victory.
  • Play against opponents in Local Multiplayer mode, PBEM (Play by EMail) or against Steam opponents on online PvP.
  • Select Total Fog of War, Partial Fog of War, or No Fog of War. Fog of War is calculated using 3D Line of Sight and Visibility conditions set for that battle.
