There has been lot talk about 4.0 and possible troubles it will bring.

Especially much concern there is with the multiplayer synchronization, and performance issues in large missions.

Most of us remember troubles that came with new updates after 3.10 - that affected game play in such level that we were about to change to use reliable version 3.10 instead of new ones.

We do not want to make same mistake again, so it would be good idea to get few players to test 4.0 before all the others will install it. Notice.. installing 4.0 requires that you needs to delete earlier version of steelbeast or there will be significant troubles. - Also there must be concerned that not everyone will be able to get 4.0 at once so we will need small transition time nevertheless. Before adapting 4.0 to official use for DOW.

So these few people who will install 4.0 would have to be ready to delete it and get older version 3.028 back, if troubles with 4.0 affect too much to our official gaming.

By doing this we want to ensure that transition between different versions will go smoothly to all DOW members.

Since we are nearing August, it could be possible that 4.0 might come out in next few following weeks. Otherwise we will have December / February update.

So my question is who are those that are ready to test 4.0 for dogs of war, and ready to convert back to old version if there are performance / multiplayer issues.

Alrighty Good to know guys!

Also we need to discus what are the most important things we need to test on 4.0

One of the major concerns is performance issues especially on multiplayer, so when 4.0 will come out, wed need to organize somewhat large mission, and preferably at least 5 players at same time. To test if we will see significant troubles in the performance.

Other thing we need to test is multicrew. Is there going to be issue on the new version?

Artillery. Will AI artillery now work?

And of course to discuss and to find out if there are significant improvements that would make our gaming sessions even better. Compared to downsides of course.

Anything else? Please bring up your thoughs. - What do you think we would need to prioritize our testing to?

Hi Colebrook

It depends on the outcome of our tests of V4.0. Hopefully all is good and we can use V4.0.

We will let you know.

I want to check out is how older missions adapt into the new version. Hopefully there is not many issues with converting old missions.
Would like to test small unit number missions, battalion sized missions, both on single, small 3-5 and large 5+ multiplayer.
Look at the difference in graphics settings, and the ability to play/host/record at the same time or combination.
Look for glitches that break immersion, anything that is less then we have now, network issues or troubles between clients and host, and AI actions.

As much as I hate breaking the news, the prudent decision is to delay the release until after the weekend. Time and again we saw on past occasions that skipping tests after some last minute changes usually results in problems for the customer. I'm sorry for all of you who made plans for the weekend based on a 4.0 release, but in the end I think that we're better off avoiding a mad dash with our hair on fire, and simply keeping our finger crossed and our eyes firmly closed.

Now, with this disturbing image burned into your memories (what has been seen cannot be unseen!) ... we shall kick the tires some more over the weekend and wait until early next week before making it available to you.

Testing has already began my self Rotar and Lusik have been playing online and haven't found as of yet any game breakers but as I a type Rotar is still pulling it to pieces.

Textures fantastic
Smoke particals amazing
Road and map surfaces smoothed ( no more hull down on roads)
Ammo flight much more realistic ( no more glowing balls)
Multi player no connection or sync issues as of yet.

Three YouTube videos out today (10/8/2016) on SB4. Many more to come in days ahead I am sure.

Nice particles effects.

After the Dogs of War are let slip, let us smoke the Pipes Of Peace.

How about mp-Ai enemy artillery? Does it work now?

What I read of release notes... they squashed so freaking many annoying bugs that I'd say we should adapt to 4.0..... unless something really big and major is found. Like excessive synch issues, constant warping or so.

I did read sb forum a bit and I have concern  here... could it be that 4.0 has graphical issues... that not everything shows to everyone? There was much talk of tracers... but as well of missing textures?

Just as Wilso mentioned, we didn't discover anything gamebreakinig but Rotar and Colebrook tested every feature one by one late at night (my time). Hearing Colebrook's 'niiice" when he discovered every new feature - priceless. ;D There are a few small glitches like missing textures on Leopard 1A5 (at least for me) or helicopter sinking into the ground for clients in multiplayer session when hovering at ground level.
