Zovs (Allies) vs. Ron's AI (Italians) in Western Desert Force
« on: November 29, 2024, 06:08:24 PM »
Going to give the Western Desert Force a go solo against the AI. I have been playing /learning WWIIE on/off since I purchased it several years ago. This year feels like things are sticking with the turns/phases and UI. The map is good enough, I love what Chemkid did for WITP-AE, but I could not find where he left off here with his work of if he abandoned it. I do wish we could mod the UI and the counters a bit more but regardless I am going to have a go.

This is 18 turns long and I am taking the Allies vs. the Italian AI with FOW on. The Italians have the initiative and go first.

Allies Turn 1

First I deploy my Air Operations, decided to bombard an Italian Armored unit, and also sent out a Naval Bombing mission.

Next I deploy my Naval Operations as follows:

Consulting the Combat Reports I discover that there was no Air-Air, Air-Naval, but there was a Naval to Naval Combat Report:

You can see that I have inflicted 3 points of damage to the Italian fleets.

Much to my surprise, the Italians came out looking for a fight!

I decide to respond as follows:

My first attack on the Italian Armored Brigade results in that units destruction:

The attack on the second Italian Armored unit results in its destruction as well, and my units get to exploit!

The Combat Reports showing my success.

Lastly, my final positions at the end of turn one and I have wrestled the initiative from the Italians.

On to turn 2, but first I need to watch some college football so it might not be till Monday.

Thanks for reading.

Allied Turn 2.

Rain!

Allies Deployment (i.e., Air and Naval Operational planning).

Naval Results on map:

Naval to Naval Combat Report:

Note that the 1st Submarine Flotilla made contact with the Italian Freighters inflicting 2 points of damage (does anyone know what that represents?) and the Italian Light Cruiser Eugenio de Savoia in turn inflicted one point of damage on the 1st Submarine Flotilla.

Air to Ground Combat Report:

My UK 202 Bomber squadron inflicted one point of damage on the 3rd Italian Division and the Italian Sparviero Squadron missed both British brigades.

Allied movements.

Note that at this point I learned a valuable lesson and turned on (off) show calculated AF/DF.

The Ground Combat Report:

End of the CW turn turn.

Still learning and making a few mistakes. Lets see what Ron's Italian AI does for turn 3.

Thanks Franciscus, I?ll start up turn four tomorrow in my ongoing learning.

If you are around I have a list of questions about parts of the game.

So the sad and confusing news is that, for whatever reason when I saved my game and then went and started playing #44 Minsk Pocket, when I returned to my saved game it was on turn 2! I should been starting game turn 4.

So now what to do?

I took one screenshot of turn 4, but my save i at turn 2.

So the AAR will be disjointed.

Maybe I stop here and start a brand new one, this time making sure I save properly.
