DCS World v2 due to be released soon (tm)

DCS World v2 is still planned to be released before the end of the year, as noted in Dec 4th newsletter: "DCS World 2 Status

Work continues on DCS World 2 with progress on file structure, clouds and other effects, changes to the front-end GUI, and of course improvements to performance. We are still striving for a late-December 2014 release, but if debugging takes longer than we hope, it is possible that the release could be pushed to January/February 2015. As always, stated dates and timeframes are our best estimates and not promises."

Of course we all know ED's strong characteristics aren't in the time planning department, so we'll just end with soon(tm).

It is the new "EDGE"  graphics engine. So a new install.

Edge is not their new 'graphics' engine. Its their new terrain engine which will be part of DCS World v2.

The v2 of the sim is going to have DX10 as a minimum spec for your vidcard. That is where the new eye candy comes from, but as a whole it doesnt look or feel radically different.
The Devil is in the details and the way they supposedly structured the internals of the sim now to enable better and faster support for modules (own and 3rd party) and bring the sim up to modern standards concerning hardware usage / capabilities.

DCSW2 Pre-Alpha video released on 25 JAN 15 by Matt Wagner. He is in a F-15C flying in the NNTR region (in Nevada) after taking off from Nellis AFB. Looks nice, but at some points the desert looks more like brown colored snow.

It has been in the pipeline for so many years you have forgotten my friend

I do recall that at one point EDGE was only supposed to be their terrain engine. Perhaps I just misunderstood all along as the accronym sounds more general than that.
