We had a bit of a birthday bash here at our base, cake and all.  The oldest Marine in attendance (one of our pilots, retired Lt. Col.) cut the first slice for the youngest Marine in attendance.  Besides the retired Lt. Col., one of our crew chiefs is a former Marine Harrier mechanic.  I think we had about 15 Marines altogether. Sang the Marine Corps hymn, watched a video of the Commandant's 240th birthday message, and reminisced about the "good ol' days".  I'm an Army guy myself (well, former) but it was fun to join in the revelry.  Too bad aircrew can't drink! Or come to think of it, it's probably a good thing we can't drink.

Thanks for posting this Asid. I've been attendance of many a Birthday Ball. Some were austere in a tent somewhere in the middle of nowhere, others in a nice hotel with formal attire and elegantly dressed women.

I would also like to confirm Cupcake's assertion that it's probably a good idea there was no alcohol involved!
