Napoleonic Infantry Tactics: A Quick Guide
Oct 8, 2019

Epic History TV

A quick guide to infantry tactics and formations of the Napoleonic period, which first appeared in our video on the Battle of Aspern. In this video we try to explain why lining up shoulder-to-shoulder was not as stupid as it first seems, and how different formations were used to maximise firepower, mobility and defence. All achieved through the miracle of drill.

Informative and compact.  :thumbsup

I remember when I was watching a movie about this period with my father some decades ago, he declared those formations as being stupid, cos they were an easy target.

As wargamer I learned about the reasons for those tactics. I think, an important argument to mention first is to understand the difference between musket and rifle.

Who we were

"We were the ones who knew but did not understand, well informed but without insight, overloaded with factual data but poor in experience and wisdom. So we went, not stopped by ourselves."
