Arma 3 Apex - Preview

Arma 3 Apex was officially released on 11Jul16, but most of the content released was available through the so-called "Dev Branch".

With a new and slick interface, a new map and new armed virtual characters it shows that the developers do care about how the current and future users do and will interact with the game for years to come. The core values that made Arma a success, like the readily available mission edition, modding and the wide open areas of operation were not left behind.

New faction: Syndikat. A semi-pro guerrilla with its own agenda about the future of Tanoa. All equipped with a nice mix of NATO and Russian vintage (remember the game is set in the year 2035) weapons. It's going to be uphill for these hombres to keep up with NATO troops and their top-notch kit.

The Tanoa island's jungle is a work of art. The type of battles I am fighting there is totally different than the ones I fought in Altis or Stratis. The ranges are short, the concealment is terrific and the amount of cover is very often misjudged. Yep, bullets go through leafs and other soft plants.

Graviteam Tactics Mius Front - Narrow Victory: The Left Hook

This is a self-made scenario assembled with the game's scenario editor. This post is a continuation from a previous one.

And then, a few minutes later, the enemy (yellow and blue icons) became quite clear. There was Russian infantry trying to turn our left flank. And the armor was assembling slightly to our right, probably to lead the infantry in a direct assault on OBJ Greta.

Note the blue and yellow icons showing the Soviet infantry and armor.

The German troops hold their positions against the left Soviet hook.

My left wing holds on (note the grey icons, which are Soviet casualties) but when the Soviet combined infantry-tank attack continues to press towards OBJ Greta, a significant amount of crossfire rains upon my troops.

Aided by the Stuart tank's fire, it's the perfect storm.

Graviteam Tactics Mius Front - Narrow Victory: First Contact

This is a self-made scenario assembled with the game's scenario editor.

I am playing as the German's, and we are trying to hold a crossroad against aggressive Soviet reconnaissance. Under my command, two platoons of German infantry reinforced with two heavy machine guns. The Soviets, with three platoons of reconnaissance troopers along with a platoon of light tanks.

The battle setup. My forces (red icons) deployed in two wings at both sides of OBJ Greta (grey circle). Each wing is a dug-in German infantry platoon. The heavy machine guns are consolidated in one icon in the forefront but are actually deployed along with the left platoon. Note the right platoon's (under the command of Oberleutnant Heldrich) deployment: it is partially in the reverse slope and with good fields of fire on OBJ Greta. In the background, the blue area and icons represent the enemy forces (3 reconnaissance platoons and one platoon of light tanks).

Key weapons is key positions. This heavy machine gun is dug in along the left platoon, with a good field of fire on OBJ Greta.

One of the squads of the right platoon, deployed in a reverse...

A new age of war is coming, and Ageod is ready to bring it to you!

Early XVIII° century. The Spanish Empire, the empire on which the sun never sets, is facing deadly menaces. Under the pressure of internal and external forces and mighty neighbours, he is losing the grip and the influence over Europe.

For decades numerous conflicts have drained massive resources without bringing any real advantage, worse, causing territorial losses, and now the last Habsburg King of Spain is dying without having a direct heir. His will names the grandson of France Louis XIV as heir, but the Austrian branch of the family is contesting it.

His death could trigger the first real global war in modern history.

To make the situation more complicated, the Polish, Eastern and Baltic regions are in turmoil, as the Tsardom of Russia now lead by Peter I Romanov (the Great) is forging an alliance to tear up the Swedish realm and to break its Dominum Maris Baltici.

But despite being numerically outnumbered, the young but military-gifted Swedish King Charles XII has at his service probably the best organized and modern army of the time, and he is not prone to surrender without a biting fight.

Europe once again is on the...
