About This Game
The years after WWII saw rapidly increasing tensions between the US and USSR, as each walked a fine line between expanding their power while avoiding nuclear war. By the early 1960's, the US had clearly pulled ahead in strategic capabilities with a much superior long-range ICBM force. Though the US public was led to believe otherwise (the so called "missile gap"), the leaders of the USSR knew how weak their hand really was.

Enter Operation Anadyr, Secretary Khrushchev's plan to place Soviet nuclear MRBM's in Cuba in October 1962. It was a risky move. But, if successful, much of the Eastern US would have been placed within reach of Soviet nuclear attack. In one quick step, the Soviets would have leapt the gap, and gained an unstoppable strategic threat against the United States.

Against the backdrop of imminent nuclear catastrophe, the young new American President simply couldn't ignore the threat.

On 14 October 1962, the US discovered the nuclear missiles that...

Gettysburg: The Tide Turns releases this week!

Posted: Monday, July 10, 2017 by Daniele Meneghini

The development history of Gettysburg: the Tide Turns has been a rollercoaster ride. When Slitherine acquired the rights to complete the game three years ago, our expectations were that we would deliver the game in a matter of months. That turned out to be impossible and we had to rewrite huge chunks of the code from scratch, taking 3 years rather than 3 months.

Gettysburg: The Tide Turns will be available for PC on Thursday (July 13th).

After a long series of challenging events, we are now ready to deliver the PC version of the game. All backers of the original Kickstarter project will soon receive an email detailing all the granted rewards. At this point in time, there are some rewards that are impossible to distribute. Nevertheless, we came up with a plan to reward all backers and hopefully make everyone who decided to invest in this game pleased and positive.

Stay tuned! Check out the official product page and find out more about the game!

DCS Bf-109 K4 - How to Take Off

Topic for today: taking off in the Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst. This is from a custom-made scenario played in DCS World Alpha, with the Normandy map. The take offs shown in this post are from the Carpiquet airfield.

In a clear day like this and in a clean configuration, we fly.

The K, as many of the other variants, had a powerful engine (a 1,800-hp DB 605 D), a narrow landing gear plus a small tailfin and rudder. This particular combo may put you virtual pilots in a pickle during take offs. I know it did for me.

According to the DCS manual, you should set up your trim at +1, set flaps to 20 degrees, give it throttle to 1.35 ATA and then -in an understatement of colossal proportions- "proceed with take off".

In some airstrips across Europe, mostly the ones where German allies got acquainted with their new Bf 109s, there was a so-called "Messerschmitt corner" where Bf 109s would be literally driven to by rookie pilots during failed take offs. The corner was beyond the end of the runway, to the left of the direction of the take off.

If you find yourself a dweller of the Messerschmitt corner, you should read this post.

I take off with the Governor...
