Up to now, when you wanted to use your own custom terrain textures in Tacview, you had to create perfect 1x1 degree tiles.

In Tacview 1.6.3, you can now freely declare as many custom textures as you want with non-square coordinates. Transparent textures are also supported so you can combine them to display advanced layers.

Even if the feature is not as powerful as it will be in the new terrain engine currently in development for Tacview 2.0, this should already be more than enough to easily display your own maps in Tacview 3D world.

NASA just dropped a ton of rare footage of SR-71 Blackbirds doing what they do best

The original trio of SR-71 "Blackbirds" loaned to NASA by the U.S. Air Force for high-speed, high-altitude research line the ramp at the Dryden Flight Research Center in Edwards, California.

The long-range SR-71 Blackbird recon jet, dreamed up by Lockheed Martin's famed Skunk Works division, has a reputation for a reason.

In the half-century since it first took flight at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, Florida, the Blackbird has unseated its record-setting Lockheed YF-12 predecessor as the world's fastest jet-propelled aircraft, its twin afterburners capable of unleashing 34,000 pounds of thrust and accelerating the interceptor up to 35 miles per minute — 3,100 feet per second , per War Zone's Tyler Rogoway .

No wonder the SR-71 became the preferred delivery craft for specially trained and colorfully attired multinational paramilitary squads : Of all the aircraft ever conceived by the U.S. Air Force, the Blackbird is most synonymous with speed.

Luckily, you can now spend all day watching the SR-71 and the YF-12 scream across anonymous skies, if you so desire. Over the weekend, NASA's Armstrong Flight...

Dangerous Waters - To Kill a Kilo - Part I

This gem of a naval sim is old like dirt but still amazing. It was my friend Asid -Dogs of War's head honcho- who reminded me about it and this thing stuck to me like a tick.

Please join me into this fight against two Iranian Kilo class submarines. This is a tough battle against very silent enemies in shallow and noisy waters.

The ship control panel of my Los Angeles III class submarine. After receiving my orders through the radio antenna mast, I move using sprint and drift towards the Strait of Hormuz. The flank speed is risky, but I need to get my sub in the area of operations, there is a tanker under attack by Iranian diesel submarines.

The navigation panel. My orders included an approximate position for the tanker, which I plotted and set a waypoint towards. The circle represents a 15 nm radius from that location, when we arrive at that point I'm going to drop my speed to 5 knots to minimize the risk of detection and to get my sonars into a speed at which they work.

Waypoints are editable, so you can adjust speed and depth with ease.

At 15 nm from the last known position of the tanker, I reduce my speed to 4 knots
