Microphone set up and ideas for purchase
« on: December 03, 2015, 04:05:51 AM »
I was thinking of having a setup of a close in microphone and a headset that would allow me to hear my speakers for in game sound, and voice chat over headphones and mic.

I look forward to your thoughts on this type of setup.

Also looking for what to buy for this type of setup. Again I buy my stuff primarily on new-egg.

Hi Cougar

What I have is a USB headset with attached boom mic. I also have standalone speakers which are 2.1.

The speakers are plugged into my sound card and is the "default device" all game sounds come out of it.

The Headset is my "default communication device". This allows TS to come through perfectly clear, which is important for on-line play.

I just adjust the volumes independently.

Hope this helps

Regards

I have looked at many forum posts about this. The main concern is the volume you set your speakers at, but I am also sure it depends on your microphone setup as well. Noise cancellation, distance from speakers, and things like that.

I am thinking of getting a single earpiece headset with mic to make this setup work that does not completely cover my ears. Nothing sucks more than playing in an intense mission, with great immersion, and have someone touch you that you did not know was there, scare the crap out of you, and ruin the immersion. Full ear cover does not help with kids, and anything going wrong in the house either.

I prefer not to hear anything when my kids are destroying the house...

I don't have that option as a single guy. There are pluses to having a spouse sometimes.

I have my external speakers set to a lower level which is not annoying to others in the house. This works for me.
