Attack at Dawn: North Africa - Launch Trailer

About This Game

Attack at Dawn: North Africa is a strategy game set in WW2 North African theatre. You will take command of battalions, brigades, divisions, and air wings. German forces start off probing into the Libyan region of Cyrenaica, and the game concludes either with the complete defeat of the German-Italian Panzer Armee, or the British loss of Egypt and the British retreat across the Suez Canal.

FAST AND INTENSE GAMEPLAY

You can play the game in either Real-Time or Turn-Based (WeGo) mode. These modes mimic the chaos and speed of mobile fighting in the desert. Add the fog of war to this scenario, and your experience of being in a Panzer Corps command vehicle is complete. The game will immerse you in one of the most intensive and nerve-wracking experiences of the Second World War.

HISTORICAL

The game features campaigns and scenarios - both historical and hypothetical. They have been designed after in-depth research of the historical orders of battle and battle histories. Special attention was given to the composition of the armies, combat values of individual units, and overall authenticity of each scenario.

POLISHED INTERFACE

We have designed all game maps and units to be easy to understand, uncluttered and informative. You can choose what your units will look like: top-view models or unit counters. With the ability to zoom out and see the entire battlefield in a glance, you will have the best possible situational awareness.

LARGE MAP

Attack at Dawn: North Africa features a large map, covering a distance of almost 2000 kilometers and you can use the Scenario Editor provided within the game to create your own scenarios anywhere on this large battleground. Starting at the bay of Sirte in Libya and spreading to Suez Canal in Egypt, the terrain varies between sea, desert, mountains, wadis, ports... There is one long asphalt road, "Via Balbia", spanning the whole length of the map, and a handful of well-known desert tracks leading towards the deep Sahara.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Attack at Dawn: North Africa?
A: It is a fast, polished and historical strategy game set in WW2 North African theatre. It has streamlined UI, large and clear map and solid AI.

Q: How does Real-Time mode work on a hex grid?
A: Units move from hex to hex based on their speed. For example: a tank battalion with movement factor of 6 will move 6 hexes in one hour of game time. The player can choose whether to play scenario in Real-Time or in Turn-Based (WeGo) mode, and that can be switched from within the scenario. That way you can adapt the game to your needs and current situation.

Q: How do campaigns work?
A: Each campaign is a series of linked historical and non-historical scenarios. The order in which you get to play each scenario depends on your performance. If you get the historical result in each scenario (win or lose as they did historically), you will experience the historical campaign. But you can change history based on your play and for instance capture Cairo in 1941 as an Axis player.

Q: Can units move in formations?
A: Yes they can. We have 2 types of formations: Line and Road. Line formation is created with 2-3 rows of units (mobile/stronger units in front, support units in the back). Road formation is created by units moving on a road (or track) in a single column.

Q: Will the players be able to edit the game scenarios?
A: Yes, the game comes with a Scenario Editor. You will be able to change existing scenarios and campaigns, or create new ones.

Q: Is AI engine scripted and predictable?
A: No, the behaviour of the computer opponent is dynamic and based on the assessment of the actual situation. The AI engine has a Plan Generator which generates an offensive or defensive plan at the beginning of each scenario. He tries to think like a human and follows the same pattern – decides on the important locations and areas, defines directions of the main attack and supporting forces, deploys groups, and activates reserves when needed. And each time he plays a bit differently.

Q: What are your plans for the future of the series?
A: We will expand the series with additional features and cover other battlefields and theaters of war. For instance, we have a plan for an expansion which will add General Staff functions: Operations, Intelligence, Personnel, Logistics etc. We will cover all of the major battlefields of the European and Mediterranean campaigns: Tunisia, Normandy, France, Italy, Eastern Front and so on. We will listen to your (players') suggestions and adapt our roadmap accordingly.

Q: Is the game ready for high-resolution displays (above FHD, up to 4K)?
A: Yes, it is! All the graphical assets have been created having 4K display resolution in mind. The game has been tested on all high resolutions, up to and including 4K. You have the in-game options to adjust the scale of game elements (panels and game objects), which enables you to adapt the game to your display.

Q: How adjustable is the game?
A: We have introduced options which enable you to customize the game to your needs. For instance - you can choose the look of the units (Models or Counters), you can choose the scroll and zoom speed and acceleration, you can turn mouse edge scrolling on and off, you can choose to scroll with WASD instead of cursor keys, etc. We will continue to listen to your needs and add more options as the time goes on.

Q: Can the game be played in multiplayer?
A: Yes, it can! The full game comes with a multiplayer feature which enables you to play all of the game scenarios against a human. This feature uses Steam peer-to-peer connection via your Steam Client app to maintain connection between players. One player hosts the game, and the other one joins him using the Multiplayer lobby screen.

One caveat: this feature will remain in BETA, as we don't have the resources for supporting the dedicated multiplayer system. That is why we are not advertising it as a feature of the game, and we are unable to provide support for it.

Q: Is the game playable on Linux?
A: Yes! Based on the feedback from community, we know that the players have tried the demo on Linux (Proton with Linux Manjaro) and they claim it works fine, out of the box. We don't have the resources to develop/test/support the game on Linux (so we don't advertise it as Linux-ready), but we advise you to try the free demo for yourself and check if the game will work on your setup.

Q: Is the game playable on Mac OS?
A: Yes! Also based on the feedback from community, we know that the players have tried the demo on Mac with Crossover (Wine) and it works fine. As for Linux, we don't have the resources to develop/test/support the game on Mac (so we don't advertise it as Mac-ready). We advise you to try the free demo for yourself, to see if the game will work on your setup.

Scenario Tool Available

We have uploaded a Scenario Tool for the game! You can use it together with the in-game Scenario Editor to edit and create new scenarios. It shows you the scenario file contents in a table-like fashion, making it easier to edit large amounts of data.

Be careful not to overwrite your original game files. We suggest you use in-game Scenario Editor to create your own scenarios in Custom Scenarios folder. And then you can use this Scenario Tool to edit your custom scenarios.

You can find the Scenario Tool for download on the game website here

This is a quick update which corrects problems with campaign saving/loading.

check saved campaign files and folders when populating Load Campaign list with campaign saves
