Operation Zulfiqar by Assassin7

This scenario is a simulation and does not have any political message.

Mission Summary :
The city of Mashhad used to be a peaceful place.... One day that peace was shattered! The first the inhabitants knew was a distant rumble. It was like a storm approaching. What happened that day to those people will go down in history as an atrocity....... The inhabitants of Moshhad sent out a plea. Help us! Liberate us! No one came.....There was no liberation that day or the next. What followed was 21 days of brutality....The people thought they were abandoned...They were wrong! The Dogs of War heard the call! They have amassed south of the border. Intention? Liberation and annihilation! Liberation for the city. Annihilation for the enemy.......

Fun mission, however

Very buggy.  Perhaps it was a bit too large in both size and amount of vehicles involved.  Not sure if I have ever played in such a massive scenario before.  Without access to the vast amount of artillery due to "AI can call fire" option, made the mission tougher.  I made the mistake of having the Apache engage too close (I didn't see the OTHER units hidden at the base of the mountains).  C and D companies were rendered combat ineffective when the enemy swooped down upon them at the center and right flanks.  B company saved the day by occupying the city objective with only a handful of units remaining.  I, as battalion commander, never fired a shot.  That's fine though, the days of the senior commander leading from the front are over.  My SB system crashed twice on this one.  NO fun.  Maybe if I tweak it in offline mode, reduce the number of units...I dunno.

Nevertheless, I think the quality of the players involved made the day.  DOW has an excellent group of men (I'm ok I guess).

That you didn't fire a shot, pretty much applies to me as well. At the end I had my change to kill only tank I did during the battle and it wasn't even tank but Shilka. Other than that, I was trying to controll movement of Charlie as well as I could and to give certain freedom to platoon leaders as long as the idea that I tried to make clear would be working. Colebrook is surprisingly obedient, I noticed. I guess he would stay on top of the hill if I would tell him to. Even if it would not make sense. Mastergunner then again seems to be fairly agressive, and have tendency to get troubles while with platoon. Dunno. Maybe it is just bad luck. But what I noticed that with more loose orders, Colebrook did really well and quite intependent! and with more precice orders Mastergunner started to shine too. So I gues it is all about experience of doing things with them. I had troubles to communicate with Beef. But at the end when he had catched up the idea he began to shine as well. Unfortunately. At the point when company was working as I hoped we were already basically combat inefective and enemy, with their overhelming numbers of tanks was more than able to cause serious troubles. - Without those troubles that D company faced with Challenger AI... and without trouble with bridge. They might have been able to support Charlie when we neeted it most, and we could hopefully been able to relief enemy pressure from Bravo. Also...  to think of the very original plan. If one platoon would have sneaked to the mountains, and managed to do that. It could have sniped enemy from very long distances. I did find rather promising looking path to do it at the time when plan was not yet cancelled and thought that it would be good idea to use just one platoon there. As well to secure center area between Charlie and Bravo.

Well...  what come to me as Commander, I think that this mission pretty much exposed troubles that I have as company leader. Not enough communication with other companies and with HQ... especially with HQ. Lack of artillery use. Lack of knowledge to use coordinates. And communication problems to describe and tell what I want to happen and in what kind of limits. These things certainly as important ones to improve in future engagements. - Yet as worst of all...  my tendency to give order and to think how much it actually makes sense and what is actually important - way after giving order. What several times led me to micromanage and caused confusion.

About the mission... it was... in my opinion way too large, and quite much time taking as well.

Also Charlie and Delta together had only like. 5 players in total. Delta mostly commanded single handed by Asid, what in my honest opinion was unfair. I had feeling that he had someone else there too when we started but apparently not at the end. When again, bravo had like tank for each player or so? Well Next time I will go to help what ever company there is least manned that no one would have to run whole company alone.

You make some good points there Lumi. I think your communications to me were good. Very clear. I think Delta did need more players as well.

This is a difficult mission
