I am suggesting the Engineer to be switchable to Light Machine Gunner. Not every mission needs an engineer (in the way of some guy that repairs stuff and clears mines)
However if we need an Engineer to repair stuff I will be happy to play it...
Also I suggest the MG42 gunner to be renamed to Heavy Machine Gunner.
This means that this guy uses the deployable machinegun and someone else needs to cary some ammo for him
Sometimes an Explosive Specialist is necisary.
Anyway my standard loadout:
LMG:
- Negev NG7 (or Zafir) this is a 7.62 caliber machine gun (not always allowed due to its caliber but here its fine) and is as acurate as a DMR.
This is mated with a TWR MG scope. This is a thermal scope (the twr is too but that is for normal guns, mg is for machine gun) and very usefull for longrange. In short distance and heavy foilage this scope is useless so I always take an ARCO or MRCO scope with me aswell (there is a great war ongoing in arma about thermal scopes so dont think you can use this loadout everywhere but here its fine)
- For ease and purposes a flashlight lazer combo is attached aswell.
- A bipod is attached to the gun so you dont need to put on an extra one, USE the bipod (C key to deploy) as without it you can not aim at all, this gun is too heavy for that.
- For ammo I take 4 clips (150 rounds) of the mating 7.62 tracers with me and one on the gun (5 total) Carrying more will result in you slowing down. If you need to do surpressive you will run down quicly and will need resupplys. Remember to switch to single shot (F) when using the scope so you dont waste your bullets.
- Sidearm. The Negev is loud, very loud. You need something silent with some range to accompany it in desperate needs. In that case I use the .45 ACP with a red dot scope and a silencer. I take only 2 clips of .45 and one in the gun (3 total) sometimes even one less as I never use more than one clip a mission.
- Uniform and vest I just take what is told to me to take. Same with the helmet. I have no preference. With the vests if I have the chance, something that can fit at least a clip and some medical stuff.
- Backpack. Caryall or a longrange if I need to do radio aswell.
- Radio. I always take the PRC-152. DO NOT TAKE THE 154. the 154 has the stupid programmer which is annoying.
- NVG's Always take NVG's does not really matter which...
- Compass, watch and chart... do not forget them
- Last but not least The binocular class. Either take a lazer designator or a range finder. I most of the times take the latter one which is pretty usefull sometimes.
Usualy in Arma I try to be a part of the tank crew or engineering crew. In that case it does not matter that I am heavy as it is just the short walk to the vehicle where I can load up my clips and toolkit.
So as an engineer I usualy take my loadout for lmg, take a toolkit, some extra clips and 4 scatchels or other explosives. Mind you that that is 2 times walking to the vehicle.
Why the negev/zafir against the other LMG?
+Bigger caliber (impact is greater and can penetrate walls and stuff)
+Accuracy
Benificial for the other LMG:
-Other lmg has 5.56 so lighter ammo...
-Other lmg can have a silencer
-Other lmg can be deployed on a tripod (bigger than a bipod so more elevation)
-Other lmg has 200 rounds mags
