1973 Sinai Campaign

Brief
This operation covers the Egyptian attack during the Sinai Offensive of the Yom Kippur War of 1973. Specifically, it covers the attack across the Suez Canal, then through the area known as the "Chinese Farm" and beyond, as the Egyptians attempted to breakthrough Israeli defenses to reach the Tasa Pass. The Israelis have an opportunity to turn the tide and push the Egyptians back to the canal. This operation has a total of 10 different missions with one looping branch.

The intention is to play this every Saturday @ 19:00gmt. Starting next Saturday 17th June.

This campaign is a full HAVOC mission. It is open to HAVOC and Ref Alert VU. If you are not in one of these groups then pm me.

The camapign is part of the SB install.

I will update this post with information.

Setting Up a Comms Disruption in CMANO

At 1653 local time, Georgian SOF operator Nikoloz Kimerioni accidentally dropped the totality of the communications equipment of his team into the violent currents of a rain-swollen Khipsta River.

Team Alpha has gone silent a few minutes after calling for CAS.

A couple of minutes earlier, eager to get a better sight at an unidentified group of men suspiciously moving on the slopes north of Abgara (12 km north of the Gudauta Military Airport), Nikoloz decided to take advantage of the clear lines of sight offered by the riverbank. Moving from boulder to boulder and attentively listening to his earpiece, he settled for a tall rock. He could see the two A-10Cs he called for support, and waited with much anticipation for a readback. But he lost his step and sled down the rock, barely avoiding falling into the waters. His radio, along with the Tactical Tailor pouch, easily detached from his plate carrier because of a lousy MOLLE job. Both took a dip into the waters of the river, never to be seen again.

This blog post is about how to set up a communications disruption in CMANO and how such disruptions affect the tactical picture...

Arma 3 Jets DLC - Collateral Damage

I got the Jets DLC for Arma 3 and it is time for some fun from the sky.

A fully loaded F/A-181 Black Wasp II over the skies of Altis.

The DLC by itself is a bit "meh!". The flight model is wonky, which is not surprising given that you can barely drive a car in Arma 3 without crashing miserably. The avionics, although you interact with it via your keyboard, are OK. The air combat is arcadish and better left alone. The ground targeting system is satisfying, which is surprising given that is very simplified and generic.

And this reveals the crux of this DLC: it is intended to be enjoyed in the context of the small unit ground combat where the Arma franchise always shined. So, don't expect a flight simulator but rather an extension of whatever else Arma 3 does right.

So, today I take to the skies in my Wasp II to test how a precision like the GBU-12 can minimize collateral damage. It's a little experiment/training thing.

Mission for today: destroy a truck in Pyrgos. This is the targeting camera, showing the target. The laser is on and my aircraft is flying straight into it at ~7,500 ft. The dot in the center of the square indicates
