The Doctrines Editor allows players to influence the behavior of AI-controlled units.

HistWar allows you to lead massive armies of tens and hundreds of thousands of soldiers. As a result, it is almost impossible for the Commander-in-Chief (the player) to micromanage all units, although it is also possible to directly command regiments when necessary.

Normally you send orders to Corps or Division Commanders and let the AIs control the lower levels of the hierarchy (Brigade, Regiment, Battalion or Squadron, artillery).

However, using the doctrine editor, you can define specific behaviors and reactions for the AI that controls the regiments, in accordance with your personality and command style. For example, when an infantry regiment encounters a regiment deployed in line with a superior force, the doctrine allows you to either retreat in order, stay put, or engage the enemy with one of the combat formations. The doctrine also allows the AI to choose the reaction it deems most appropriate.
