Avant-Garde: Napoleonic Battles brings you into the heart of the great Napoleonic battles, in a real-time strategy game on a hexagonal grid where every choice counts. Developed by a solo developer.

You take the place of the greatest generals of the era. You observe the terrain, sense the weather, gauge the morale of your troops, and adjust your forces. Key events unfold: the arrival of reinforcements, the death of a general, the explosion of a building... Every moment can transform the fate of the battle.

You can follow the historical course and test your strategic skills under the same conditions as your predecessors. Or you can change the outcome: reorganize your troops, experiment with troop numbers, anticipate or provoke decisive events. History is your playground, but beware, every decision has consequences.

Are you capable of surpassing Napoleon and the generals of the past and leaving your mark on history?

You manoeuvre on the same terrain as the generals of the era, under realistic weather conditions. Every enemy move follows a historical logic, and each unit possesses specific attributes: morale, ammunition, skills, and formations. History sets the stage... your decisions shape the outcome.

Clear and concise tutorial:
Avant-Garde offers a simple learning curve, thanks to its step-by-step tutorial, so every player can quickly grasp the game mechanics.

Two attack modes:

• Simplified orders, where a single click is all it takes for the unit to automatically make the most of its movement and positioning.
• Precise orders, for more complete strategic command, where you dictate precisely to your unit what actions to perform.

You can use both modes at any time during combat.

Whether you're a beginner or an expert, the path to glory is within your reach.

Closed Beta available on July 31st.


The Closed Beta will be available in a few days, July 31st, on Steam! Let me share the current state of the game for this major development milestone.


Game Content
Some of you may have already played Avant-Garde: Napoleonic Battles, whether during playtests, conventions, or on Steam (Alpha). So, what's new in a nutshell?

• Music & SFX: Adds immersion and emphasizes what's happening on screen.
• Tutorial: Continuously refined to help you get a better grip on the game's controls.
• Improved Animations: For certain units like sappers and infantry.
• Better Textures: For terrain and enemy units.
• Revamped Main Menu: Redesigned with animations and credits.
• Preparation Scene: Lets you preview the battle and learn more about its historical context.

Known Issues
Unfortunately, some features (sometimes critical) are either missing or not perfected. I plan to address these in upcoming updates, of course!

• Music & SFX: Recently added, but some are still missing or not fully polished.
• Tutorial: I've refined it through multiple tests, but it could still be clearer and better structured.
• Historical Aspects: Apart from the terrain and a few unit uniforms, no historical elements are implemented yet. This will be included in the game's Demo.
• Pathfinding: Units don't always take the optimal path to their destination.
• AI is Too Dumb: The artificial intelligence is still too simple and naive.
• Missing Units: Skirmishers (voltigeurs and chasseurs, among others) are not yet in this version.
• Game Settings: You currently cannot adjust settings like volume or graphics.
• Optimization: The game isn't fully optimized yet, which may result in longer load times for some of you.

This list isn't exhaustive, there's still plenty of work to do, and I'm well aware of it. With your feedback, you'll help me make the game better and more stable.


Access to the Private Beta
I plan to grant access to the private beta on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on demand and feedback, access may expand to a larger group later if needed.


Updates & Improvements
As I roll out fixes and improvements, I'll update the game so you can access them directly! Old Guard members will get these updates 7 days earlier than everyone else.

Next Steps
The next major milestone will be releasing a Steam Demo of the game. This demo will feature a full battle with nearly all core features available. Closed Beta updates will align with this goal.

The Closed Beta is Live!

The closed beta is now live! It's your chance to play the Beta version of Avant-Garde Napoleonic Battles!


How does it works?
Here are the steps to join the closed beta:

• Fill this application form (https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.gle%2FmHYmhXzqgKtUk5gt6), before August 31st!
• Receive your key by email, if there is a key left.
• Play the game!
• Share comments, feedback or report bug in the Discord server (https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdiscord.gg%2Fx3PFJfbSE3) of the game's community. Forms are also available in the game if Discord isn't your cup of tea.

1. Application Form
The application form (https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fforms.gle%2FmHYmhXzqgKtUk5gt6) is just so you can manifest your interest to get a key and play the game. The questions it contains are there for me to know your profile better. Nobody nor other entities have access to your answers.

The applications end on August 31st.


2. Receive your key
The number of key is limited to 100 for now. If demand continues to grow, I will make more available. The key will be delivered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The keys are valid until the end of August 31st. After which, you won't have access to the beta version of the game anymore... Unless you join the Old Guard in the Discord community.


3. Play the game
You are going to play the first Beta version of the game (V.0.1.0). Even though I worked hard (believe me) to correct the maximum of bugs, there are some of them still out there. Just remember this is not the final version of the game and that it's still in development.


4. Feedback and Bug reports
Your feedback, comments are very important to me! It helps me make a better game and be a better developer. I would greatly appreciate if you could take the time to share your opinions with me.

There are two ways to do so:
