A very difficult task for the prussian attackers. The objectiv was a fortified farmyard situated on a high-plateau. Most of the attackers had to cross creeks before engaging uphill.

I think the attackers concept was perhaps the best available. The successive approaches of the different Corps sections was rather confusing to interpret for the defenders. The major attack was executed against the weaker one of the 2 french corps. Also a forceps movement on both flanks has been sought and one of them led to a direct threatening of the objective. And, last but not least, one of the the offensive maneuvres hit the gap between the french corpses.

Actually there is hardly a battle in which the plan can be executed perfectly, but also the performance of the single elements of the Prussians was really well done in many aspects.

The battle resulted in a strategic french victory for holding the objective (not too hard to defend such a compound), but a tactical stalemate.

Probably the prussian CiC, Neilnelly, was right when he remarked that his forces might have been divorced too much. Perhaps the bypassing on only one flank would had been better to have some reserves left for a final breakthrough.

Only 100 casualities more suffered by the attacker considering the topographic challange and the stronghold-target reveal the recognition that a good job has been done.  :thumbsup

Thanks to the anticipation of the french generals, the prussian offence could be supressed in the final phase of the battle.  :winner
