Is the verdict out on this yet? Or shall we wait until bugs are fixed?
I think we should wait on this until the bugs are fixed. It shouldn't be too long. But Lusik is already on 4.1, and I'd like to hear his thoughts on this before we make the decision.
I haven't had a lot of time to test it but once I decreased Dynamic Cache, frame rates are better than. 4.0. Road rendering is also a frame rate killer but 2 or 3 give me smooth frame rates for most missions. I also note that in highly wooded terrain shadow quality also has a big impact in FPS but visually I noticed very little difference between 5 and 10.
I tested a mission with visibility set to 12 km and all Ground and Terrain Detail Sliders maxed out. I had around 30 FPS. with it, where previously it probably have dropped to 12 - 15. Also smoke has much lower influence now.
Somebody notice a problem with infantry friendly fire but it didn't happen in any of the missions I played. Overall, once set up for your hardware it looks better than 4.0.
Lusik, since as far as I know, you're the only one of us who has installed 4.1, can you play with us if we stay with 4.023, or shall we go over to 4.1?
I will be away this weekend so I won't be able to play.

I also installed version 4.1. But this week I was on a business trip, so I can not draw conclusions. This weekend I will stay on version 4.1.

OK, let us know when you can draw conclusions about 4.1.
As stated in the "SB Pro PE 4.156 Link" topic, we will be using 4.1 from now onward.
I'll be on the TS server at 1800 GMT. We'll be playing Panzer_Leader's Armoured Infantry Company Attack at Rydsgard 1991 v1.6 to see how well it performs with 4.157.

Objective taken. 4.1 runs good enough on my PC, the upcoming patch should make performance better. It looks amazing, and we will be sticking with 4.1. 8)

Thanks for the aar :thumbsup
Read up on some issues about 4.1.
#1: Lasing a target with a dust cloud behind it fails. It is true that dust can interfere with the LRF, but not within boresight, and definitely not when the cloud is behind the target. Someone posted an example of this on video in SB website.
#2: the FO's zoom view is sporatic. Someone showed a video of this flaw.
There are other bugs that people mentioned. I'm skeptical about this and will hold on upgrading for now.

This has happened in every other SB update/patch. That is why many stay on an older version. It is always wise to wait when a new update/patch is released so you can look at the feedback from "day 1 / early adopters". For some the new additions etc are worth the new bugs.
Read up on the 4.161 download with patch. Quite an intimidating downloading process for a computer-challenged person such as I. May need some help on this. :'(
Still cannot figure out why eSimsGames has not crewed the T-80, T-90 and other Russian built vehicles. Damn.
Back to 4.1: I do enjoy the changes. Wondering if I should stop making scenarios until I download 4.1.
Need new headset. :-[
The installation sequence is as follows:
- Uninstall 4.0
- Install the SB Pro PE Maps Installer
- Install the SB Pro PE 4.161 Installer
You can also install the SB Pro Maps Download Manager (which I highly recommend), and the Legacy Maps Installer (for converting old scenarios that you have created). All of these can be downloaded from the eSim Games downloads page: https://www.esimgames.com/?page_id=1607
So, the map installers are IE files, while the Map package installer has the SB Pro image. Do I run the Map package installer first, then the map installers?
For some reason, my system doesn't have something that will run the map packages files first. Actually, a pop up window tells me that the operation will not be protected by my PC. The name says, "IE ActiveX Interface Marshaling Company. Is this safe to use?
That doesn't sound right. I never encountered IE files when I downloaded directly from the eSim Games' downloads page.
UPDATE: seems like things were successfully downloaded. Now, SB will not operate. Tells me the license is not working. I updated and sent requests, nothing. Using 6.81 Codemeter.
OOPS, I didn't upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1. Heheh.
Got it up and running. But the maps and most of the missions have an attitude. I saw the SB forums on the matter. Pretty complicated. Went back to the map package installers. When I tried to open, a blank window opens very briefly, then disappears. Nothing happens. I'm clearly missing something.
