Title: The real Forrest Gump
Post by: Frankie on September 14, 2016, 03:53:39 PM
I was on the luxury coach from Kuala Lumpur to Penang on Saturday. They had this touch-screen video monitor in front of every seat. I tapped the Classics category and came across Forrest Gump. I last saw the movie back in 1994. In the cinema. I vividly remember the Vietnam war scene. So here I was, 22 years later, watching the same movie. Googling on Forrest Gump, I came across this interesting Youtube video of MOH recipient Sammy Davis.

On November 18, 1967, Private First Class Sammy Davis, wounded and under intense enemy fire, crossed a river to rescue three wounded soldiers near Cai Lay, Vietnam.

On November 19, 1968, Davis received the Medal of Honor. The footage from that day as well as Davis's citation were used as source materials for the film Forrest Gump.
