There has been lot talk about 4.0 and possible troubles it will bring.
Especially much concern there is with the multiplayer synchronization, and performance issues in large missions.
Most of us remember troubles that came with new updates after 3.10 - that affected game play in such level that we were about to change to use reliable version 3.10 instead of new ones.
We do not want to make same mistake again, so it would be good idea to get few players to test 4.0 before all the others will install it. Notice.. installing 4.0 requires that you needs to delete earlier version of steelbeast or there will be significant troubles. - Also there must be concerned that not everyone will be able to get 4.0 at once so we will need small transition time nevertheless. Before adapting 4.0 to official use for DOW.
So these few people who will install 4.0 would have to be ready to delete it and get older version 3.028 back, if troubles with 4.0 affect too much to our official gaming.
By doing this we want to ensure that transition between different versions will go smoothly to all DOW members.
Since we are nearing August, it could be possible that 4.0 might come out in next few following weeks. Otherwise we will have December / February update.
So my question is who are those that are ready to test 4.0 for dogs of war, and ready to convert back to old version if there are performance / multiplayer issues.
Volunteers for testing:
Asid
Lumi
Wilso
Cougar
Render's (August ->)
Would love to test this also
I'm up for it.

Me to
Alrighty Good to know guys!
Also we need to discus what are the most important things we need to test on 4.0
One of the major concerns is performance issues especially on multiplayer, so when 4.0 will come out, wed need to organize somewhat large mission, and preferably at least 5 players at same time. To test if we will see significant troubles in the performance.
Other thing we need to test is multicrew. Is there going to be issue on the new version?
Artillery. Will AI artillery now work?
And of course to discuss and to find out if there are significant improvements that would make our gaming sessions even better. Compared to downsides of course.
Anything else? Please bring up your thoughs. - What do you think we would need to prioritize our testing to?
What version we are going to use for this weekend missions?

Hi Colebrook
It depends on the outcome of our tests of V4.0. Hopefully all is good and we can use V4.0.
We will let you know.
I want to check out is how older missions adapt into the new version. Hopefully there is not many issues with converting old missions.
Would like to test small unit number missions, battalion sized missions, both on single, small 3-5 and large 5+ multiplayer.
Look at the difference in graphics settings, and the ability to play/host/record at the same time or combination.
Look for glitches that break immersion, anything that is less then we have now, network issues or troubles between clients and host, and AI actions.

As much as I hate breaking the news, the prudent decision is to delay the release until after the weekend. Time and again we saw on past occasions that skipping tests after some last minute changes usually results in problems for the customer. I'm sorry for all of you who made plans for the weekend based on a 4.0 release, but in the end I think that we're better off avoiding a mad dash with our hair on fire, and simply keeping our finger crossed and our eyes firmly closed.
Now, with this disturbing image burned into your memories (what has been seen cannot be unseen!) ... we shall kick the tires some more over the weekend and wait until early next week before making it available to you.
Testing has already began my self Rotar and Lusik have been playing online and haven't found as of yet any game breakers but as I a type Rotar is still pulling it to pieces.
Textures fantastic
Smoke particals amazing
Road and map surfaces smoothed ( no more hull down on roads)
Ammo flight much more realistic ( no more glowing balls)
Multi player no connection or sync issues as of yet.
Three YouTube videos out today (10/8/2016) on SB4. Many more to come in days ahead I am sure.

How about mp-Ai enemy artillery? Does it work now?
What I read of release notes... they squashed so freaking many annoying bugs that I'd say we should adapt to 4.0..... unless something really big and major is found. Like excessive synch issues, constant warping or so.
I did read sb forum a bit and I have concern here... could it be that 4.0 has graphical issues... that not everything shows to everyone? There was much talk of tracers... but as well of missing textures?
Just as Wilso mentioned, we didn't discover anything gamebreakinig but Rotar and Colebrook tested every feature one by one late at night (my time). Hearing Colebrook's 'niiice" when he discovered every new feature - priceless. ;D There are a few small glitches like missing textures on Leopard 1A5 (at least for me) or helicopter sinking into the ground for clients in multiplayer session when hovering at ground level.
White domino rules in the clouds, thermal image blurry haze and flashes and explosions not properly references showing hundreds of meters off, some tracking to round hit issues in SEP. Team iron campaign phase 6 took me in offline mode a couple mins to load. Would be interesting to find out what is like with more players.
That's it for now. Many good features, but I still only pay concerns as if there are no game breakers, then we will be moving in.

Okay brief observations from me....
4.0 looks and feels awesome + AI artillery works again!
However
Large missions will likely be unplayable for older computers. Me, rotar and Wilso tried Cougars team iron campaign mission and where I had no trouble, it was hardly playable to Rotar. Frames were down to 12.. or even less.
Also.. other concerns that definitely need some more testing.
- There seem to be lot troubles with lazing targets.
- TIS FOV has troubles. Focusing doesn't always and on all vehicles seem to work correctly
Good to hear Lumi.
We will find out more about networking after this weekend.
So. Will we use it for official games already or we do more testing?
More testing. We have been invited to do a test mission Sunday with others. If enough are interested, and respond here, I will let them know yes or no tomorrow. If yes I will post more on when and where.

I would say not use 4.0 this weekend, other then testing. Will make a decision no later then Wednesday next week.

I kind of agree with you.
It's a long list of trouble people are complaining about in sb.com I believe we wouldn't have any less trouble.
Thus there are trouble with 1 st thermals focusing. Something to do with graphics... also it seems to kill frame rates very badly
On Youtube today - a little trick to reduce stuttering in SB 4.0.

Enjoy and report.
It depends what time I'll be back home. I'd like to play but it's rather unlikely.

Is it good to go? Or are there too many bugs right now?
I had to finish my game after 20 minutes so others may have more feedback.

I upgraded last week as I hope to start playing SB again at some point in the near future.
I really think they nailed it in this release, very immersive! And the interiors are awesome.

I dare to say that its good to go.
Its huge upgrade over all the past versions.
There are some troubles though... especially older computers may need to drop their visibility settings a bit. As new version has quite bit better graphics.
I hope to be able to create and post comparison video soon... so you will see actual differences.
That's not SteelBeasts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlezone_%281980_video_game%29#Clones).
4.0 Will need testing before adapting to use by Don_prince...
You all know my use of it for the past months that I own it, rare... I'm not shure wheter I can justify the cost of that upgrade for the amount that I will play it...

What you talking about brah? The Stardog paid extra for the Hi-Res cockpit DLC! Dont hate because yours doesnt look as fly brah :)
Figured I would give the referring to myself in the third person a go, seemed cool enough for The Don.
After the feedback from the players that attended a combined operation with others, and not having any major issues, and the TGIF mission with minimal issues, we will be moving to 4.0.
I say again we will move to 4.0 for all future games.

Was just waiting for Cougar to give the green light :)
Beef you use more images and memes than me....Nearly ;D
When you back Beef?
Would have sooner, but stick to the side of caution. Better safe then sorry. All's good now. Now to see how it works for us. Should be good.

I'm glad to hear that. I'm really into SB now. I'm designing a couple of missions one of which may be used for our games. The other will most likely be more suitable for a small scale casual gameplay.

Even though I need to save up for rent and cable bill. No hurries right?
Not sure about playing time with the fall season almost in full swing. As I may have mentioned before, I cover 33 sports teams this fall as the only sports reporter in the local paper. I may be able to get by on a few Sundays though. Saturdays for the moment look unpromising. We shall see. I'll need Asid's help once again...he knows how technically challenged I am! :P
