This scenario is a simulation and does not have any political message.

INTEL :

Our sources have confimed that a group of rogue Ukranian seperatists have reached the old blown up powerplant of Chernobyl. The Intend of this movement is unknown but the rogue seperatists may have bad intends with spend nuclear fuel. This threath needs to be neuteralised ASAP.

Local citizens have reported military activity in the zone and have reported military assets near the powerplant and in the area. There have been unconfirmed reports of military activity in the abandoned town of Prypyat.

The Russian and Ukrainian government have assigned assets to neuteralise the area.

The area contains multiple dangers.

- Massive areas still contain radioactive waste from the explosion of the Nuclear Power Plant. Check your Geiger Counter and Dosimeter at all times.
- The Animals have radiation poisoning and may suffer from rabies. Stay away from animals and if necisary shoot them.
- The buildings are damaged and their structural integrety may have been compromised. Be carefull when entering buildings and access the situation before entering.
- You are not allowed to thouch or take any of the belongings of the former citizens of Pripyat


Mission Summary :

You are a NATO Special ops team consisting of 14 specialised individuals from different countries. You will use NATO Standard language for communcations and orders. You have been assigned codename Afrodite. Your CO will have codename Spactarus.

You will lead the attack with support from the combined Russian and Ukrainian Army. If you need CAS or other support you will have to relay on Russian and Ukrainian assets. Your CO is in direct contact with the Russian and Ukrainian command.

Your first Task is to neuteralise the area around the Chernobyl Nuclear Powerplant. This is high priority. We will take NO, repeat, NO prisoners. Everyone not with the Russian or Ukrainian army is concidered hostile wheter armed or not.

In case of a casualty our first and foremost priority is to neuteralise the area around the Chernobyl Nuclear Powerplant. A casualty will be dealt with afterwards.

After neuteralising the area around the Chernobyl Nuclear Powerplant your seccond task will be a recon mission to acess the situation in the abandoned city of Pripyat. It is assumed that its 10 citizens have fled the area but this is unconfirmed. You are allowed to open fire ONLY if the target opens fire at you. The situation will be dealt with according to the outcome of the recon mission. Unconfirmed sources claim high assets of the Rogue Seperatists in the area.

Standart S.O.P. and C.O.C. Apply. R.O.E. may change by decision of your CO.

Contains the map. This map has collision issues and can cause units to fly in the air in certain places. in a worst case scenario it migth cause map objects that have been damaged to flip. These cases are rare and all issues are within workable range.

About CUP:
CUP is a modpack that contains all maps and assets from all previous Arma programs and DLC's. If you have the space to deal with it I recommend you to keep these mods after the mission for future use.

I will need your help!

Please reply if you will be able to deal with the mods. I am speaking about the size.

Please also comment on whether you will be intrested in joining and your abillity to do so.

Take into account that this particular mission has heavy GPU and CPU load. A minimum power equal to a GTX 660 is required.

I am also open for ideas and feedback.

This mission shoud be dynamic in how many players are necisary however the more the better.

How to make temporary space for the mods. {non destructive}

Required, external (maybe usb) drive with 10gb of space.

Example, I will take arma 2 and will copy the entire folder from the steam library to a 16gb tumbdrive. Then I can download the mods. After the mission I will put the mods on the tumbdrive and Copy Arma 2 back to its original position.

This does not yet have a date. The current date shown is a placeholder just so I can easaly alter it when the mission is ready. As of now the mission is 20 minutes near compleation depending on feedback from this topic.

Noted and changed, I am looking for a way to make a custom mod with only the assets I need, However I can only get it down to at minimum 5.5GB
The downside of that is that the mod than only applies to this mission, however the rest should be able to play with the original mods. I will check with people whether I can make this happen.

First objective, seize the power plant at all cost!

All units are getting in formation ready for the attack (start up of the mission, FPS spike down to 4fps)
All units standby for orders (FPS back upwards of 20FPS)
All units get into position around the power plant, First recon flight reports multiple contacts, artillery and missiles from the destroyer are raining down on enemy contact.
Armoured units get in contact with enemy, CAS joins the attack.

Feedback:

Concidering removing enemy CO position. Takes up too muchto server resources while I think noone fancys the position anyway.

Concidering lowering the ai count to lower server load.

Concidering rebuiding mission in game master mode and saving the mission. Ordering forces from gm mode is easyer as ai does not always follow orders from high command.

I tried out to create the mission with RHS, this due to a lower mod load. This seems to be impossible. This creates the same issue that the russian armoured units only can work on the enemy AI side or as empty vehicles. This means that no bluefor AI can use these unless under the command (do not read High command) of a player.

This creates a situation which I want to avoid as much as possible. I am sick and tired of the whole NATO vs Russia thing. This is one of the main reasons I created this mission and the main reason this mission uses CUP Vehicles.  CUP Vehicles relays on CUP units (makes sense as those drive the vehicles) and those need the CUP weapons. Now I can wither down the resources by removing the vehicles I do not use or the units. I do no think I can wither down on weapons. that is 5 steps down the line tracking what each crewmember uses...


I will create a mission with only CHZ as mod, and I will try to make the current one less server heavy. The enemy CO position will be removed. This has the downside that the enemy will not cooperate as one force due to the AI high command beeing removed. (the unit most left will not respond to the contacts on the other side of the area of operation)

I will remove the High command from the bluefor CO. While it was pleasant to use the constant data flow and calculating causes to much load on the server. The High comand may be used to command the seperate player units. All AI units will be generated before the mission in Game master mode. During the game the Game master will command the units from the Game master mode.

If there is too less players the game master mode will be the way to stabilise the way. I do definetly not like to spawn in units as do neither of the members of this group. The user that spawns the units MUST spawn as less as possible for game stability and if the case will be so, Spawn them in far away so that it comes in as called in support, and does not appear out of thin air.

I will work on both missions. The one without mods will be ready next friday and can be used for the friday mission.

One update on the mission:

You need to be carefull around the powerplant, Explosions close to the powerplant may cause damage to it. This is not only on mission level but on map level. The map has issues and buildings and areas can flip after they have taken to much damage:

4 choppers have crashed into the power plant and mortar fire hitted some of the cooling buildings in this picture.

Allright I now have 4 versions of the same mission:

V1 CUP CHZ CBA with high command and enemy CO

V2 CUP CHZ CBA based on GM mode and command structure for players

V3 ONLY CHZ based on GM mode and command structure for players

V4 CHZ RHS-AFRF based on GM mode and command structure for players


V2 has improvement on server load compared to V1 Modsize is just under 7Gb for both

V3 has only CHZ (the map), BUT This will take out immersion

V4 is about equal to V2 but without CUP and with RHS mod and lower load. It will be harder to spot the difference between russian/ukrainian forces and the seperatists but in reality this is also the case. Mod size is about 5GB (2gb less than CUP, I thought RHS AFRF was less but the recent update made it way bigger)

Let me know if you prefer a version. I highly recomend V4

After neuteralising the area around the Chernobyl Nuclear Powerplant your seccond task will be a recon mission to acess the situation in the abandoned city of Pripyat. It is assumed that its 10 citizens have fled the area but this is unconfirmed. You are allowed to open fire ONLY if the target opens fire at you. The situation will be dealt with according to the outcome of the recon mission. Unconfirmed sources claim high assets of the Rogue Seperatists in the area.

Standart S.O.P. and C.O.C. Apply. R.O.E. may change by decision of your CO.

Basic information:

Now this mission can be played in 2 ways. Full player and Combined AI (Steelbeasts like). In order to do so a role can request AI to his squad or players. For each role the following squad slots are available:

GM                      > Combat life saver

Standard these slots will not be assigned and these have to be requested BEFORE the game starts in the lobby.

The first part of the mission will be near the powerplant. So a dense industrial area with open angles. Before the start of the mission we will discuss what part of the attack we want to play, Infantry, Mechanized, Armoured, Tanks or whatever we seem fit or want to do.

The seccond part of the mission will be in an urban area. This is a high density urban area with enterable buildings. The AI will enter those buildings. So we may change our part of the attack before the seccond part of the mission.


For the GM:
The GM makes use of the GM mode. Basic knowledge of this system is mandatory. The role of the GM in the attack is at the start to spawn in the AI nessicary. This is the only time the GM can spawn in units and use them directly. For the next rounds a time penalty will be there and the units need to be spawned in far away on the map (travel time to AO). The GM will be in control of CAS. The GM will also function as Recon as his view is like a drone.

The GM is not allowed to order the units directly. He can pass information to the XO's and give them the order to attack a certain area. The XO decides how to attack.

The GM position is very valuable and if killed the GM mode is lost and there is no possibility to regain the GM control. The GM therefore has to take extreme caution to his position.
We simulate the GM position as the liason between the Russian/Ukrainian and the Nato forces. If this liason is killed we will have lost comunication with our allied forces.

If there is a small amount of players the GM can play under the command of the XO. As the GM will be commanding the AI the GM will not always be capable to join in fighting.

For the XO's :
The XO has the command over the mission. He can request support, intel, CAS and supply's from the GM. In case there is a low ammount of players the XO has command over the GM as a unit (GM will play an active part).

For the Units:
Listen to your XO and have a blast.

For the Engineer:
If there is a big amount of players you will get a designated Repair vehicle. Your task will be to clear mines, AID's and repair broken equipment. Lay back from the AO and get in quicly per request and get out ASAP.

If there is a small amount of players put toolkits in different vehicles and play an active part as unit.

Regarding CAS:
If there is a large amount of players we may concider player CAS. However first priority is that we have a proper ground force.


How to command the units for XO's and the GM:
We will make use of teamspeak but it can be usefull to use the build in command system.
Now in the above schematic:

I suspect you have basic knowledge of the normal command system. If not I can not explain that to you here. I suggest playing the build in tutorial for that.

Now for most of you I guess the High Command is new. It is not that differend from the normal command. The system operates the same. To access the High Comand system you have to press CTRL+SPACE. The mayor difference is that it is hard to order AI units to enter vehicles (you will not command AI trough High Command this mission) and you can command units in the map view with nato symbols (press CTRL+LCLICK for more waypoints), Kind of like in steelbeasts.

Regarding commanding in GM mode:
If you do not have knowledge of how this works you can not have the GM position. Basicaly as GM you can access your GM mode by pressing Y. However as you will be commanding up to 6 different squads in this mode it will get very complicated fast.

In order to lower server and player side load unfortunatly you will have to remove wrecks and killed units. You can only remove units you spawned in.


Regarding the Powerplant:
TO EVERYONE: Be extremely cautious with explosions near buildings and pipelines. This is a nuclear powerplant and damage to the buildings can result in a spill of radioactive material. If a building gets damaged it will show so and you will have lost one of your objectives.


Now I think that next to a learning experience on a whole new level and a new view on what arma is capable of this mission will be a blast for everyone.

Chernobyl mod is now available in the steam workshop,

If you have the space download it... I will make a small mission to test the new version out in small non official sessions... (not for tomorrow)
