Yeah ouch on the price.  ???

To be honest, I love the "idea" of the Civilisation games - but I don't think I've got into one proper since the very first outing. I don't know what it is - but it seems to be a lot of button clicking to end turns until your next thing is built or something like that.

I can't see me picking this up as I've had each of the previous iterations and hardly touched them.

Edit - looking at Steam, I have 30 hours in Civ V   :o

I purchased all of them--Civilization I thru V--and can honestly say some are better than others. For example, I played a lot of Civilization and Civilization II but did not much care for Civilization III; I liked Civilization IV but was a little put off with Civilization V. But I think every one of them was worth the money I paid for it.

However, since you didn't play the last one much, I don't blame you for not getting Civ 6--at least not right away. Just don't give up on it until you've had a chance to watch a few videos as well as see what others think of the game after it's been out awhile. You might change your mind.

I just don´t get it when they put out video´s like this that don´t show any actual game footage  ???

I could understand a price like that in the old day. s, there wasent many games out, they gave you a nice paperback manual, nice big old box that you didn´t know what to do with it and some CD´s, and most times they had to build there own game engine.  Now day´s with so many games coming out, downloadable and with so many game engines that do most of the work, I just find that there a bit over priced.  I only see it as "I have the game first"!  Besides, now we know that we are the official beta tester´s!

If it´s your birthday Stardog, then Happy Birthday and I wish you more to come! Have a cola on me, or better yet, some "Jameson" on me!  ;D

Thanks gents,
Well ya I dont know. I was pretty skeptical about it but have always loved Civ games and always felt Civ 4 was by far the best one.
My son knew that and he loves them as well so he gave me the money to get it and he picked it up so we could play together coop.

Just watching streams last night and playing around with it for a few minutes its alot better than what I thought it was going to be. It is quite a bit deeper than Civ 5 already I can see that in the government management options and it has alot of the things that were more detailed from Civ 4 that were taken out or dumbed down for Civ 5.

Just a quick, early observation.  Civ games are those game that are usually fun to just play when you arent looking for the micro management or depth of the Paradox titles.  I love both.

Ya have heard its a good game.

Generally if I want to play 4X games non fantasy its Civ just because Civ games have a certain something about them and if I play a fantasy 4X I love Age of Wonders games.

That is a great bundle of games.

Civ 3 is awesome still, Railroad and Pirates are amazing classic games.
And Civ 5 is still a great Civ game.

I just don't know. i have played every one but have been less excited with everyone. The one i played the most was 2, even with the cheating AI, 3 i played less and so on. I have the complete IV and V and havent played them much, V just didnt grab me, like JD said felt like a lot of hit end turn. I've watched some vids of VI and it looks good, i like the looks of the changes. i will probably pick it up at some point but way later in a complete bundle, i might just be tired of the formula. For my 4X fix i prefer endless legend these days, i like the tactical battles. I still haven't played it much or Age of wonders 3 which i also own.

Many of the AAA titles have issues when they are released. If you do not "need" Civ VI then it would be wise to wait for a GOTY version complete with the many DLC's that will no doubt be released....Grabbing the GOTY edition on a sale is even better  8)

And yet I purchased. I should say a lot of the "just clicking the end turn button" is perhaps me not actually getting into the game. I've been trying to "learn" the mechanics more here and also take part in the story, grabbing all the info I can in game and looking up the Civlopedia a lot.

So far, it's an excellent game.

Civilization 6: 6 big changes

Civilization 6 finally landed last week and gamers everywhere are creating cities and overthrowing empires. We thought it would be a great idea to list some of the big changes in Civ 6 to really whet your appetites.

AI Agendas
AI’s now have a main agenda and secret agendas assigned to their civilizations. A couple of examples of main agendas include; Cleopatra hating civilizations with military influence or Theodore Roosevelt hating people declaring war on his continent. Secret agendas are more vague, for example a certain civilization will want to be the biggest Naval power in the game or a civilization that’s going for more of a culture victory. This varies the gameplay up quite a bit from the last Civ games and encourages players to think more tactically.

Eureka moments
This is great way to boost your civilizations’ technologies. This time around your research relies on your surroundings. For example, if you come a cross a stone deposit you will be able to boost your masonry technology. Or if you decide to settle in a coastal area your naval technology will be boosted. This encourages players to explore their surroundings more and to experiment settlement placement.

Roads are built by trading
In previous Civ games, roads would usually be built by worker units however in Civ VI, roads are automatically built by trading. All you need to do is simply build a caravan and a road between your two cities will be built for you automatically. It’s a pretty handy mechanic, just make sure you set up your trading between friendly cites. The last thing you want is to trade with a city who will later come charging down your newly built road in a full scale attack.

Unstacked Cities
Cities are now split up into specialised districts to help you manage your cities and settlements better. Cities can now have a district dedicated to science or religion. Adjacency bonuses can be gained by building districts in certain locations. For example, both science and religion districts get bonuses for being built next to mountains. It’s a great way for players to experiment more with their city building.

Localised happiness
Possibly one of the smaller changes in Civ 6 but a pretty cool one none the less. Happiness is now localised which means this can give you a great tactical advantage. So, for example, you can build a small city far away just to get some tactical resources, and if that particular city is unhappy it will not effect the overall happiness of your empire.

Unit stacking is back
Civ 5 lacked the ability to stack units together, luckily Civ 6 brings unit stacking back to the series. You are now able to stack military units together to make a huge military unit, or you can mix and match units together to get the perfect tactical advantage. The good news is it’s not like the over the top ‘death’ stacking from the previous games which means you will not be bombarded by a huge amount of AI units.

That is just some of the big changes Civ 6 has to offer.
