Title: Steel Beasts ScreenShot Troubles
Post by: Connaugh on November 24, 2015, 02:07:40 AM
Dear Friends:

The other night, I was talking with you all about the trouble my screenshots were causing over at the Steel Beasts Forum and I thought I would elaborate for those of you that only knew part of the story.

After our 10/18/15 Mission, I posted this screenshot to show that the DOW had excellent attendance (I cannot help but rub it in, hehe):

I then received a Private Message from Chance and here is the PM and my reply:

Hello,
You have included my TS callsign in a pic you posted describing players in your mission.

I did not attend your session nor do I wish to have my callsign included with or in  association with a Dogs of War event.

Please be so kind as to edit your post.

ChanceBS

Dear ChanceBS:

Please read my caption closely for the "pic" in question and you will see that it says "15 Players attended" which is the exact number of the participants listed in the three sub-groups in the Dogs of War channel that were playing the mission. Your name happened to be in the Steel Beasts Pro PE Lobby (if I can label that "room" that way) when I took the screen shot. Please count the participants and you will see that they add up to "15". There are a total of 16 names if you include your callsign, but as you were not playing in the mission -YOU WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL! You were not in any of the Dogs of War sub-group rooms, so you cannot be considered "associated with" or a "player in" a Dogs of War event. The SimHQ TeamSpeak forum has channels for various games, including Steel Beasts, and allocated a sub-channel for the Dogs of War which is what was used for the mission and I cannot help that you were in the Steel Beasts Pro PE channel (not the Dogs of War Channel) when the screenshot was taken.

As a side-note, where does all of this anti-Dogs of War animus come from? It appears that Asid has been revealed as the Anti-Christ by the Steel Beasts community and I see this "nor do I wish to have my callsign included with or in  association with a Dogs of War event" attitude presented in the forum often. Other than Gibsonm, is there any other individual in the Steel Beasts community that has devoted more time helping people than him? There are none! He has been instrumental in setting up a VU that has more participants playing than any other VU. And twice on the weekend! Do you see any other VU with that level of participation? I have been in Steel Beasts for over three years and I have seen the VU's come and go - UK Armour is like the phoenix - dies, gets reborn, dies again, etc. The others seem to have a few members but have not grown. But the Dogs of War grew and has remained stable. It has its Code of Conduct that establishes its "charter", if you will, and evolved to where it has two weekend sessions - the DOW Saturday mission for experienced players and the Sunday T.A.N.K.S in the casual TGIF format. We also have Assassin's VENDETTA that plays often as well. When I started, I would visit the Steel Beasts TeamSpeak channel to look for players to have a game with and, sometimes I got lucky and showed up at a time when several were there and a game would start up. Many times it was fruitless to even log on but now with the DOW, I have two scheduled events on the weekend to attend and there is usually a game going on several times during the week.

I have played with you before and enjoyed your company and I invite you to come play with us whenever you can. We are just a bunch of dedicated Steel Beasts Players who enjoy the game.

Respectfully,

Connaugh

Later on 11/17/15,  Tjay posted this after one of my screenshot postings:

Thanks for posting these screenshots Conn. And thanks too for being the only DoW member who continues to contribute to the SB forum. What happened to the posts giving advance notice of DoW/T.A.N.K.S sessions?

So, I posted this in reply to be informative:

The Steel Beasts Forum Calendar lists the two weekend sessions:
D.O.W. Saturday Mission and T.A.N.K.S. Multiplayer Sunday.
At the end of the announcement is a link that connects to the DOW Forum:

and the sessions are found in: Mission Announcements

and individually within:

Please come. The more the merrier.

Then, Ssnake posted this on 11/19/15:

I suppose these are "screenshots too"... still, it's probably more adequate to use threads in the multiplayer board.

and TJay posted:

Agreed. Is it possible to move Connaugh's post to that section?

So, I moved the posting to the Multiplayer section of the forum to accommodate the perceived feeling of possible forum protocol improper usage.

Chance then took the opportunity to post this after Ssnake's posting:

+1

I guess he thinks that I was forced to move and was congratulating Ssnake.

Then, yesterday, Mogwa made this posting:

Not sure what he was trying to say or was too ignorant to say anything but thought he should post a reply anyway. I guess I should be honored to have attained the same status of Asid and Assassin in being placed in the "Most Hated Steel Beasts Players Club" by Mogwa.

All I can say is I don't care about those fools. I am not going to let it bother me. They can continue with their douchebaggery.  8)

I would not worry of them either. Actually Im even starting to think that Id sort of want to start posting our missions to there just to make them even more annoyed.

And how nice it would be if I would get more active on their forum.. having this big dogs of war logo under every post I make xD

I'm proud of being Member in DOW.

Dear Friends:
Hi Con

You started your post with “Dear friends”. This is what we have become here at Dogs of War. This is why our community continues to grow and is probably the most successful SB community/group. I stopped posting on SB.com due to what you have highlighted. Haters will always hate.

Post for the correct reasons. Post because you support our VU. Post because you enjoy the sim. Post because you want to. Post for the right reasons.

Regards
