Title: Strike on haeju with Beef on 2/1/17
Post by: Nitai on January 03, 2017, 04:57:51 PM
Beef and i flew a 2-ship OCA strike at haeju yestrday, he took lead and i flew around him trying to snap some screenshots and record everything.
We had some SA-5 spikes on the way to the target, but we knew we're out of range so i continued to fly close formation (or at least try to...) and take some picturs.

As we got close to the target area Beef switched to AG mode and dropped his bombs while i stayed in AA for cover, I recived 21 nails close on the nose and i also detected a 2 ship takeing off about 40nm out ahead, however beef was done bombing so i datalinked the scramblers to him and asked him to take over the AA so i can drop my bombs and we can get out of there.
I quickly realized that my coordinates are off, and understood that i fergot to recon the target prior to the flight, so i had to mess with the TGP and correct this. During that time i had to turn around a couple of times due to mig21 spikes on my tail, mig 23 spikes and an SA5 launch at max range, but eventually i got my bombs off and we turned away from the target to make our escape. During all the manuvering i lost my situational awerness and it's safe to say i would have died if not for our trusty 4-ship escort flight. Beef also defnded aginst the SA-5's and AAA, all these threats were defeted sucsessfuly.

On the way home we looked for some AA action but we couldn't find any enemy aircrafts close enougth, we therfore decided to head home, at which point the radar operator of a hawk battry on the ground decided that he is very jelous of us, and my ears should pay the price... So with my RWR out of the normal handoff mode we both cruised back home and i got back to aerial photography:

Getting closer to home plate Beef decided to roll over and make a steep dive towards the airfield, i follow him in a little less then 1 mile trail but due to poor throttle managment i end up passing very close to him and another aircraft, ensuring that our CO will kick my ass as soon as we land...

But as the cool fighter pilots we are we decided that we didn't have enougth trouble and we should go for a formation landing, we arrive on the final a little low and slow and my wobbley flying almost sends me into Beef upon touch-down but we manege to get on the ground safely.

The strike was sucssesfull with the runway and some equipment at haeju destroyed, aswell as 2 mig21's, 2 mig23's and 2 mig29's destroyed by the rest of the package.

To play the acmi file you just have to download it then open it with tacview.

I have recorded the flight, but my micerophone didn't quite pick up my voice, i'll try to edit the video and fix that, along with some other things so i can upload it, if sucssesful i will add a link to the video here.

Thanks a lot for an awsome flight Beef! hope to fly with you again soon!

Nitai is a very good Falcon BMS pilot and performed very well. I'm not ashamed to say he is much better than I am. I thoroughly enjoyed this mission and will be happy to fly with Nitai anytime again. Needless to say I'm way beyond "rusty" and need a lot of stick time to catch up to Nitai's level of proficiency--I appreciate his patience with me. Even though we both hit 100% of our target for the day, Nitai's bombs hit the runway (which is what we meant to do), but mine hit the airfield outhouse and storage shed.

We had escorts in the target area and a SEAD package as well. I knew there were bandits nearby because I kept seeing 21 and 23 on my RWR, but every contact I bugged on my FCR was identified as friendly. I think the escorts made short work of the bandits before I could locate them.

The AAA was heavy in the target area and was bursting all around me.

Thanks for posting the screenshots and ACMI files. I plan on recording video and ACMI next time.

Again, great job Nitai!

Thanks a lot Beef! i'd love to fly with you againg anytime and if you need any help reafreshing on some systems/need a buddy for training AA i'd love to help! even if it means just flying straight for you to practice formation flying or something.
I suggest that we arrange for one to record and one to get the acmi, since doing both can mean 15m loading time when exiting the pit...

Hi Nitai

I seem to remember a certain United States Naval Aviator LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell going inverted over a mig-28 somewhere over the Indian Ocean in 1986.

Did he buzz the tower when he landed?

Soooooo bad luck, there's not gonna be a video, it seems that a softwere i deleted was installed at the same place the footage was saved for some reason, and when i uninstalled the video got deleted aswell... but at least now i have some editing software and i'll (hopefully) be able to make videos for the next flight.
