Title: Is Windows 10 ok for Steel Beasts?
Post by: Connaugh on May 09, 2016, 07:17:21 PM
I know when Windows 10 came out there was some discussion at the Steel Beasts Website but now I cannot find any posts in the Forum concerning Windows 10.  I think that I can "google" with the best of them but I cannot find anything at Steelbeasts.com. I cannot find anything here either.
So, does Steel Beasts run fine under Windows 10?  Any problems?
I know that Steel Beasts is a "legacy" program so it may have difficulty under Windows 10. I have a free upgrade offer on my PC for Windows 10 and I was just thinking of the pros and cons, if any, of upgrading.

I've had no difficulty whatsoever.  No special setting or setup or anything.  Upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and SB works fine.  Your mileage may vary, I suppose.

Me too. I've had W10 for the last few months with no issues with Steel Beasts.

Well, I took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 10 and the worst nightmare of my computing life then ensued. After installation, I got a "Blue Screen of Death" type screen with a cryptic message concerning "DPC_WATCHDOG VIOLATION and then the PC would attempt to repair, reboot, and then display the message again, then reboot again, ad infinitum. Reminiscent of Lumi's "Live, Die, Repeat" scenario. It would never repair itself, so, I looked up the error on the net and only found a multitude of fixes, none of which I could really do. There was no explanation of the error and why. Probably a driver issue. Tried to go to Safe mode but, wow, that is a trip to do under Windows 10. There was an option to uninstall the Windows 10 and revert back to Windows 7 but I could never effectively select the option. The PC would appear to "freeze" and I could not select the menu options and then it would reboot. This went on for the rest of the evening. Very frustrating. After work the next day, I was able successfully get into Settings and implement the Windows 10 uninstall and I am now back to Windows 7. Hooray!

I did not have any issues. I would update all your driver's, and possible find a tech support to help you.
Maybe Simone in the group head additional info.

I have heard that upgrading from other windows to 10, has about 25% change for near catastrophic failure.

Thank god you were able to get your pc back working. :)
