We had a beautiful baptism last night by the Frenchmen skilfully commanded by the generals-Sandman and Mitra, we seemed to be the Prussians in Ligny, advancing like a steamroller, every defense, it was useless. Honor to the two generals  :howdy

Hats off to the French commanders.  :howdy

Their manoeuvres totally surprised us.

Battle was on a very hilly map with the possibility to conceal troops movements.

We, the British, had to defend a line made of three objectives.

We had two infantry corps and a cavalry corps, 50,000 men in total.

I sent Colbert on the left with 27,000 men. He occupy the central objectiv,a fort, with one brigade and tried to hold against the attack of a French corps (D'Erlon/Mitra) assisted by 3,000 men of kellerman cavalry corps.

On the right I had my corps of 10,000 men and 4,000 cavalry.

When the things started to go bad for Colbert on the left, I gave orders to move his last brigade from the fort in the centre to the left covering this movement with a cavalry division. In the meantime I was shifting one of my brigade towards the forts but suddenly sandman appears on my rear from south and occupied both the eastern and the central objectives. I was totally surprised!

On the right, on the east, I slowly managed to repulse the French division from the objective.

In the centre there was an heavy cavalry fight with French sabres prevailing. Then his infantry defeat the brigade around the fort

We suffered 4,500 more than the French :Shocked_2

Thank you for the compliments, Fellow Generals!  :howdy

Although the allied defence could potencially benefit from the high ground locations with surrounding creeks, it is very competetive to defend 3 objectives.
The attacking french had 45 k in total with 9200 Cav and 17 batteries, while the defending allies brought 41,5 k in total with 7100 Cav and 13 batteries to the battle.

To succeed, the defenders must not suffer more casualities than the attacker
and
must not let the french control even a single objective for more than very few intervals.

In spite of the fact, that the french outnumbered the defender in terms of cavalry and artillery, it appears to be an ambitious task for a defender to fullfill the required criteria.

Due the scenario lengh of 3,5 h and the hilly character of the battlefield, the nessecairy time was given, to extensivly maneuvre the large formations in a mannor, that allowed the chance for surprise attacks to gain a positive momentum for the attacker. Rarely enough it works out in a way like in the last battle.

It might was interesting to replay the scenario somewhen later by switching the sides. It might be questionable, if a defender really could prevail. At least IMO it was even more skillfull to successfully defend all the objectives for the complete time, than seizing and holding at least one of them within the first approx 150 minutes.  :doubt

However, in order to keep the laurel wreath on our heads, I appreciate very much the recognition regarding the strategic success in terms of the extent of the eleminated opponents.  :winner
