Asid,
First thought on seeing this is that it's "Squad Leader."  Boards and Counters look like they come from Squad Leader.

Thanks

Features

Three difficulty levels with varying levels of command and control implementation.

A dynamic AI which never reacts the same way twice to a player’s plan. Scenario designers need only designate the AI as an attacker or defender and the game engine will do the rest!

Tigers on the Hunt uses Fog of War; if a unit doesn’t have LOS to any enemy unit(s) it will not be able to see or engage the enemy unit(s). LOS is detailed, down to a pixel level.

Statistics: objectives, casualties, outcome of the scenario.

Create any tactical situation in World War II with a full suite of editors:
a. Map editor

b. OOB Editor

c. Campaign Editor

Battle it out in virtually any engagement on the Western/Eastern/Mediterranean Front using detailed American, German, Russian and British armies.

A massive library of units:
a. All German/Russian/American/British Infantry Units: Squads, Half-Squads, Leaders and Crew

b. 40 Support Weapons (LMG, MMG, HMG, DC, FT, PSK, PF, ATR, PIAT, Molotov Projector, Radio, Bazooka, Light MTR)

c. 95 Ordnance (Mortars, Anti-Tank Guns, Anti-Aircraft Guns, Artillery)

d. 162 Vehicles (Light/Medium/Heavy Tanks, Tank Destroyers, Assault Guns, Armoured Cars, Half-Tracks)

e. 28 Off Board Artillery Pieces including Mortar/Howitzer/Rocket

Use the myriad units in small as well as massive battles which support up to: 200 Infantry units, 100 Support Weapons, 100 Ordnance pieces and 50 Vehicles per side.

Scenario sizes can range from small and intense to massive and grand (up to 97 x 40 hexes)

Campaigns (really just a long scenario) last up to 504 turns - roughly about 2 months of combat (8 turns per day + 4 turns in the night).

Scenario difficulty can be: Easy, Normal and Hard. The difficulty is associated with Command & Control rules. Easy means human player always have command over all its units. Normal difficulty - Normal Command & Control rules are used.

Hard - tougher Command & Control difficulty rules are used.

Scenario/OOB/map editor, maps can be created by painting each hex individually or a whole map can imported by loading templates that come with the game. The scenario editor supports 12 maps put together. 4 maps in a row and 3 maps in a column. You can assign each map to each sector or you can allow the computer to randomly import the map templates to make the overall scenario/campaign map random.

How does the AI compare to Matrix's Steel Panthers World at War and Shrapnel/Camo's SPWW2?
As I remember, the AI when attacking just came straight in towards its objectives (zerg rush).

Hi Con

From what I know the AI is adaptive so will be more of a challenge.

AAR Oosterbeek Perimeter

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3982704

Oosterbeek Perimeter 21 Sept 1944
GB player: AI
GE player: Human
Difficulty: Hard

Herren, battalion commander issued new orders for our company.
The British paratroopers are holding the Nederrijn bridge south of Oosterbeek. Our mission is to secure that bridge and to establish a defensive perimeter north of it.
Securing that bridge will enable our armor forces to cross the Nederrijn and crush the British units located in Oosterbeek.
Battalion commander wants to have lunch in the restaurant near the bridge and nobody will ever dare messing with our commander lunch.
First platoon, supported by the Stugg, will attack east, second and third platoons will move north-east.
First objectives will be the 3 hex building and the patch of wood south of it. This should give us a good starting point to launch our attack on the bridge.
Intel had pinpoint a squad in a small building west of the bridge. They should not be alone, keep your eye open.
Let’s move!

Game Turn Sequence

This is straight from the game manual:

8.1. Appendix A-Sequence of Play
Each scenario has a number of turns played, each turn represents about 2 minutes of actual time. Each game turn is divided into two parts, and each part is comprised of 8 segments. Some segments are done by both the ATTACKER as well as the DEFENDER. Some segments are performed by the ATTACKER only and some by DEFENDER only.

8.1.1. Pre-Game Setup Segment
At the beginning of each scenario, the player will have the ability to place Personnel units/Ordnance/AFV (if available) on the map.

8.1.2. Reinforcement Segment
If there are Reinforcements (Personnel Units/AFVs) due to enter for specific a player turn the Reinforcements Segment will activate, otherwise the game proceeds to Administrative Segment.

8.1.3. Administrative Segment
Administrative segment is split into two parts; first the ATTACKER performs all his actions then the DEFENDER performs all of his actions. In this segment, all broken personnel units will try to recover from their broken state either with or without presence of good order state Leader. Broken support weapons, ordnance and AFVs will be repaired if possible. AFVs will try to recover from shocked state. In addition, new units (if available) will also come on board. Personnel units will also be able to recover not possessed weapons from the ground.

8.1.4. Fire Segment
The ATTACKER performs all fire actions for all his units that are eligible to fire.

8.1.5. Movement Segment
The ATTACKER performs movement actions for all his eligible units (that did not fire in the Fire Segment). The DEFENDER can interrupt ATTACKER’s movement/actions by performing Defensive Fire with his eligible units.

8.1.6. Defensive Fire Segment
The DEFENDER can perform Defensive Fire with his eligible units that did not defensive fired during ATTACKER‘s Movement Segment.

8.1.7. Advancing Fire Segment
The ATTACKER units that moved in Movement Segment may fire in this segment at reduced firepower. However, support weapons, ordnance and AFV may fire only once without Rate of Fire.

8.1.8. Rout Segment
Rout segment is split into two parts; first the ATTACKER performs all his actions then the DEFENDER performs all of his actions. In this segment, the active player’s all broken+ personnel units that are adjacent to good order enemy units as well as all broken+ personnel units in LOS of enemy units in open ground (without any terrain bonus) have to rout away. Failing to do so would eliminate the broken+ personnel units. The broken+ personnel units while they perform move command in open ground terrain hex can be interdicted by the enemy units. No broken+ personnel unit may be interdicted more than once if the broken+ personnel unit suffered casualty from interdiction already in the current segment. A broken+ personnel unit that performs low crawl move (1 hex move) cannot be interdicted by the enemy units at all. A broken+ personnel unit cannot rout towards enemy unit in LOS (or known enemy units – meaning an enemy unit that was seen previously in the current Rout Segment but it is not visible later).

8.1.9. Advance Segment
The ATTACKER may move personnel units by one hex and possibly move into the DEFENDER’s hex - this will then trigger Close Combat Assault and hex will be marked with Close Combat marker.

8.1.9.1. Ambush
When advancing personnel unit moves into a hex with enemy units, an Ambush can possibly occur. An Ambush check is triggered in Woods/Building/Rubble hex.
Once Ambush bonus is determined, the side with the Ambush bonus can possibly influence the outcome of Close Combat.

Note: A stealthy personnel unit can gain a possible advantage in Close Combat.

8.1.10. Close Combat Segment
All hexes marked with Melee marker are resolved first (Melee hex is a close combat assault hex that did not get resolved in in the previous Close Combat Segment); all hexes marked with Close Combat marker are then resolved next.

8.1.11. End of Turn
Once the Close Combat Segment is completed the second part of the turn is executed where the ATTACKER now becomes the DEFENDER and the DEFENDER now becomes the ATTACKER. Example, say on a turn 1, and first part of the turn the ATTACKER is German and the DEFENDER is Russian. In the second part of the turn 1 Russian is now the ATTACKER and the German is now the DEFENDER. Once both parts of the turn are done the game turn is now over and the turn 2 now begins. Once all turns are completed, the scenario is finished.

Defending Meximieux AAR.

By: xavutrecht

This AAR will see German forces attacking US forces defending a small village.
On the menu infantry, leaders, tanks, half-tracks, self-propelled artillery, mortars, machine guns, anti-tank weapons, satchel charges.
Turns are divided in 2 player phases; phases are divided in segments.
First turn is quite detailed; the next ones are more straight to the point.
Hope you will enjoy reading it.

Scenario: Defending Meximieux: 1st September 1944 Meximieux, France
History: After the Allied breakout from their bridgeheads in southern France, Operation Dragoon became a northward race between the retreating German cover force, 11th Panzer Division, and the advancing Allied 45th and 3rd Infantry Divisions. On the 30th and 31st of August 1944, elements of the 45th Infantry Division, "The Thunderbirds", shifted eastward to avoid the German cover force and then moved north to capture the town of Meximieux. To protect the eastern flank of the retreating German forces, 11th Panzer Division received orders to dislodge the advancing 45th Infantry Division from the town. The Germans surrounded Meximieux on the 31st of August. An understrength Battalion from the 45th took up positions and awaited the attack. When the Germans attacked, the Americans managed to slow down the advance and separate the grenadiers from the panzers. This made the Panzers easy picking for the Americans. The Germans were forced to withdraw with heavy losses.

Unit strength for Human Players: German: 15 Squads, 1 PSK, 8 AFVs
AI player (strength may vary): American: 19 Squads, 4 AFVs, 2 Bazookas, 2 MTRs
Terrain: Rural/Village
Victory Objective: The side with the most Victory Points at the end is the winner. Both sides get VPs for controlling Victory Objectives.
Turns: 7

Scenario configuration:
Fog of war: On
Difficulty: Hard (Both the computer and human players follow the Command and Control rules, ie units can be ‘Out of Command’)
Scenario is set I will play the German attacking against an US AI entrenched in a small village. According to the description the German force is supposed to take a beating, let’s try to re-write history and take that village.

Tigers on the Hunt New Game Executable

There are some bug fixes that I thought I would share with you as soon as possible. Work on official UPDATE2 continues but at slower pace than UPDATE1, too busy with my day job.

Bug fixes:

1) Russian SU 122 now has HEAT rounds (ISU 122 now does not HEAT)
2) Fixed 1024x768 resolution issue for log window being too big as well as the Pop up window was not positioned properly.
3) When firing with an Ordnance/AFV vs target that only has AFV, the Infantry Target Type button will be disabled on the Target Type Dialog.

NOTE: make sure you install UPDATE1 before overwriting the game executable with the 1.0.28 version attached in this message.

So, what do you think Stardog worth it? To bad it´s not PBME at the moment, not sure if there´s plans for that in the future.

Care,

Thanks Asid! Well that´s a good reason to buy it I would think, it´s just that since it´s ASL based and I never got to play ASL I was just wondering.  The good thing is you don´t need to worry about all the ASL rules.

Care,

Red

Hey Red, I think its a good game thats a good representation of a classic tabletop wargame.  I think it suffers from no PBEM greatly as everyone wants to play these types of games against their friends.
It has an amazing number of scenarios because of the community and it is nice that you can cover all theaters in one game like this.  Is it worth $50?  Hell no! If it had PBEM I would say absolutely yes!
Is it worth picking up on sale?  Yes if you are interested in an ASL-like experience against decent AI.  Yes.  But alot of that comes down to what you are looking for.  Its a real shame that PBEM is not included it could be really great if it had that.

Hi Stardog!

Hmm, thanks a bunch!  Once again I agree with you, it´s the PBEM that´s missing indeed! Been playing Flashpoint PBEM++ for about a month now (we set a one turn per week at least rule) and that is so practical to be honest!  Iam pretty tied up lately to be able to play on a given date, so PBEM is so cool just for that. I joined the Blitz club just for PBEM and there´s plenty of people who are willing to play, it works just great if your into wargames really and this game is missing just that, pitty!

Will be playing Combat Commander Europe (boardgame) next month so my GAS in that sence will be pleased  ;D

To tell you the truth and with all my respect´s to the designer, even on sale right now at 35€, I rather buy another John Tiller title for two euros more (37€).  I recently bought Battles of  Kursk southren flank which is John´s newer look just as Battles of Normandy.  They both have a sort of graphical 2D face lift which is very much appreciated and well it´s JT´s gameplay.  At 20€ I would have grabbed it but not at 35 with the JT games at 37 Iam afraid not unless something you said would have convinced me in some way, and I was hopeing you would have said something like "oh there working on PBEM in the future just hang in there".  Shame LNL Heroe´s of  Stalingrad has been abandond, it was the next ASL clone besides TotH.

Thanks Stardog for your opinion!

Best regards,

Red

Red no problem bro.
Glad I could help or not help depending on how you look at it. :)

Ya I am a big fan of the Tiller games especially the new Panzer Battles series since its the same scale as one of my all time favorite wargames, his Campaign Series.
As for Blitz its one of the best wargaming clubs without a doubt.  All very nice guys over there and zero drama!

PBEM as in play by email?

I had that sence you were a Wargame fan Stardog and glad you are!  :)  Will have to play a PBEM someday! I have some John Tiller titles, just let me know.

Yes Longknife PBEM is just that (Play By E-Mail). You also have PBEM++ which is about the same thing but with some added features.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-mail_game (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play-by-mail_game)

Basicaly you play your turn then send the file to your opponent which in turn opens the file and see´s your turn fase and dose his turn and sends back the file to you so you can do the same.  With PBEM++ you don´t need to send the file, the file is on a server (you send it to a server and your opponent downloads it dose his turn and it uploads it again). Something like that. You then play your turn when ever you like or have time.

I decided to get Lock N Load Heroes of Stalingrad which is a nice game and ASL alike but also has multiplayer.  It´s not that it´s abandond, the game is finished and they don´t plan to do anything else for it, but you have a editor so thats cool, besides no battle will be the same with the AI. It seems that LNL are working on a new title "Heroes of the Pacific"...

I haven´t had much time with it, just played the tutorials for now, but so far so good. I never played ASL but from the videos I looked at in YT this title seems a decent "wanabe" ASL clone. Like I said, I don´t know up to what extent of rules ASL has (I imagen alot from the price of the rule book and what I hear) or for the same matter compared to TotH. I just see it as a good "tactical" wargame. It´s not to hard to learn but it´s hard to beat. The scope is just in my ballpark, tactical squad level with till now small maps, so that fill´s my bill just fine. It also has multiplayer, I joined the lobby but no one was there, I guess if you meet with someone at a given time/date it should work just like any online (lobby) multiplayer game. So all in all very good for me, and I see folks still buy it and play it now day´s which means the game is good.  We should try a online session some day.

Salut my friend  ;)

Ok getting back to Tigers on the Hunt...

All is not lost folks regarding online play  ;)

See below the use of "Team Viewer" as a "Hot-Seat" option which I find very doable, and not only for TotH.  Actually a couple of months ago I got support from Steinberg (Cubase) via Team Viewer for some issue I had with there sofware.

I guess we are going to have to think twice our purchase of TonH  :)

Care warheads,

On July 1943, the German war machine had the chance to deal a mortal blow to the Red Army. After the defeat at Stalingrad, it was necessary to regain the initiative and secure the Eastern front. For this purpose, the German High Command massed a huge quantity of Panthers and Tigers tanks in proximity of the Kursk salient, hoping to destroy the bulk of the Russian forces in this area.

But the Soviets, knowing in advance the Hitler’s plan, created over 190 miles of depth defense to stop the Panzerwaffe and they moved their armored forces in reserve for the counter-attack.

The largest tank battle of the entire Second World War was about to commence…

Tigers on the Hunt: Kursk is a DLC containing three Campaign Game Scenarios for Tigers on the Hunt, focused on the key operations during Operation Citadel. This nice addition features a different type of gameplay from the original base game, giving the players a more challenging experience!

A Campaign Game Scenario is a much larger scenario with a lot of units on a large map. The battle lasts generally over several days and nights before the Campaign Game winner is called. To do this the Game Turns are divided into portions for Day (8 Game Turns) and Night (4 Game Turns). See more information on how it works on the official product page here.

Following the steps of the base game, Tigers on the Hunt: Kursk will make you toiling for every inch conquered, fighting against an unforgiving AI!

Tigers on the Hunt: Kursk will be available soon! Check its official product page for further information.

Tigers on the Hunt: Kursk is a DLC containing three Campaign Game Scenarios for the Tigers on the Hunt Game.

The Campaign Game Scenarios portrait three different battles during the German Summer Campaign 1943, more known as the Operation Citadel. The first Campaign Game Scenario is about 3rd SS Panzergrenadier Division Totenkopf crossing of river Psel, the second 1st SS Panzergrenadier Division Leibstandarte Adolf Hitlers drive towards Prokhorovka and the third XLI Panzer Korps attempt to penetrate the Russian lines at Ponyri.
Playing a Campaign Game Scenario
Playing a Campaign Game Scenario is a different taste of TotH. A Campaign Game Scenario is a much larger scenario with a lot of units on a large map. The battle lasts generally over several days and nights before the Campaign Game winner is called. To do this the Game Turns are divided into portions for Day (8 Game Turns) and Night (4 Game Turns). Dependent on how long the full Campaign Game Scenario is it will be divided like this:
Day 1: Game Turns 1-8
Night 1: Game Turns 9-12
Day 2: Game Turns    13-20
Night 2: Game Turns 21-24
Day 3: Game Turn 25-32
Night 3: Game Turn 33-36
Etc.

As the Campaign Game Scenario last for a while there are some differences from a normal scenario. This is to depict the possibility for a side to do some refit of their units during the night.

The differences are that at the start of a new Day:
•   Broken and Broken+ units will Rally to normal status
•   Broken Weapons will be repaired
•   Broken Ordnance will be repaired
•   Immobilized vehicles will be mobile again
•   Off Board Artillery will be back to possible access again

Tigers on the Hunt second DLC announced! Welcome to Normandy!

June, 1944. Europe has been under the Nazi heel for 4 long years. Even if the Eastern Front is crumbling and the Red Army counterattacks are in full swing, the German Armed Forces are still a formidable opponent and are making very costly every inch of ground conquered.

Only a breach into the Festung Europa and the creation of a second front could ensure the beginning of the end of the Third Reich.

Tigers on the Hunt: Normandy (http://www.matrixgames.com/products/product.asp?gid=732) is a DLC contains 2 Campaign Game Scenarios for Tigers on the Hunt, featuring 6 different battles.

The scenarios feature many historical tactical situations from the Normandy Landing, ranging from the heroic deeds of the 6th Company C of 2nd Ranger Battalion at Pointe de la Percée, the British fighting at Le Hamel, Pegasus Bridge, and more!

Stay tuned for further updates!  (http://www.matrixgames.com/products/product.asp?gid=732)
