Title: How PMDG treat their customers
Post by: Asid on December 22, 2017, 02:38:12 AM
I just read this post posted today on AVSIM. Read it....

Customer asked (Daniel Corbe)
Hey PMDG,

I'm experimenting with WidevieW partly as an exercise to increase the performance of my sim and partly because multi-monitor cockpits are more immersive.

Do I need to have a separate license for each PC?  Or is it permissible for me to install my PMDG aircraft on multiple computers.   At the end of the day, I'm still just a single user.   What is PMDG's policy on multiple installations?

-Daniel Corbe

PMDG replied ( scandinavian13 PMDG Development and Support)
As stated in the EULA - up to two PCs, not in simultaneous use, for your own, personal use.

Customer replied (Daniel Corbe)
Well it's a shame PMDG treat their customers like criminals, but oh well.   Guess I'll pony up the $$ for more copies.

PMDG replied ( scandinavian13 PMDG Development and Support)
Treat you like criminals? You'll have to explain that one for me. The license is written for up to two computers for your own personal use, not simultaneously. It was written for a pretty nominal use of the product.

We're working on distributed processing so that your one copy can be spread across a network of computers, but that's not out yet.

...but it's a shame that you brought the long guns out and accused me of treating you like a criminal, before engaging with us in some sort of meaningful conversation about it. Unnecessary, honestly...and I could've gone into more detail about it, but at this juncture, I don't see a point if you've already decided that we've somehow treated you like a criminal.

(Which, if that were the case, I should probably go void your licenses, no?)

Customer replied (Daniel Corbe)
REALLY!?

You're going to void my licenses because I don't like your licensing policy?   Even after I said I was going to purchase another copy?  That's really how you want to treat me?

You're absolutely right.   I don't feel like you're treating me like a criminal.  I feel like you're using my legitimate use case to pay for other people's piracy of your product.   Which is infinitely worse.  No wonder so many people steal from you.

The topic has been taken down, Wayback Machine doesn't have a copy of it.

I clicked the link anyway. The conversation was so interesting. Like a movie script. Like watching a movie trailer that leaves you wanting more.

Thought of the Day: if the Wayback Machine archives the whole Internet, then who archives the Wayback Machine?

PMDG have deleted it. However I found the first 2 posts of the conversation:

 here (https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:ltmjEejt7-sJ:https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/526949-multi-pc-cockpit/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-b)

Their products are not cheap. Some are $134 http://www.precisionmanuals.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=25
