Haha well I think "well" is charitable for sure but it certainly was a blood bath and I gave as well as I got for the most part.

Some shots of the carnage.

Sorry I missed the battle, I had promised Nef earlier I'd do some WoW with him. When it didn't seem like it was going to work, I figured I should follow through and join them. Hope to get into this in the future the immersion factor seems like it's pretty cool if I can figure out this HITS mode!

Yes going to take a bit of practice with HITS so will get some in at a simple level before joining as would be fumbling about a bit. Assume messages like the Civil War version.  I wish the maps were zoomable to give orders as the current AI does not make this user friendly.

Installed all the above options, However the keyboard commands do not seem to let me look around in game. Manual says something about editing Keyboard.csv file but does not say what to edit. Have set Options to distance from you to 2 as per instructions.  I need to sort this to  learn enough to join in.  Am I missing something obvious?

Mouse does not seem to do anything either.

Sorry to be thick and will keep reading manual

EDIT  Now Q and E keys seem to let me rotate my viewpoint so progress at least!

Once you are 'in game' playing a scenario.. Go into Options.. there is a HITS move distance, that is what fixed it for me. So when you hit W it moves that distance (the General).. you can hit A and D to change his direction prior.

Please guys do the tutorial. There is one there.

I play this regularly. HITS is a great and immersive way to play. It takes some getting used to but is very rewarding. It totally transforms the experience.

Do yourselves a favour and do the tutorials and try with the first French scenario. Make sure you have done everything in this thread (first post). http://dogsofwarvu.com/forum/index.php/topic,3597.0.html

Ya this is totally a game you just have to play to get.  Like Asid said do the tutorials and then do the first Frenchie scenario over and over until you have no issue.

Did the tutorial when I bought the game.. and the first scenario a few times. Understand the game and it's concepts, just think HITS is clunky.

HAha yes its is clunky and hell, thats the idea bro.  You are stuck in your saddle.  Situational awareness RIP

First steps in HITS  mode are always a nightmare but once you'll learn it,  you'll love it.

I remember my first time,  after a while, i  noticed I was turning around in a  circle ::)   with my general...

Tuna,  if you feel better you can learn the basics at a higher level  like 10, 20  or so.When you feel more confident you can set 2.

Sorry another question. Are you playing with the Kriegspiel Mods on or off?

Start with little brigade in open field map, so it's easiest to learn in hits. U will love it, it's so immersive, and have the feeling to stay in the middle of the battle

Yes I am doing small brigade stuff but as I mentioned my main issue is controlling the commander in any timely manner. By the time I get him to a sensible position to oversee things the action is half over. I am only able to move him by using say 1 to move, halting him, wheeling him, guessing I have wheeled far enough, issuing another 1 to move, stopping, another wheel etc etc.  More like moving an entire Corps rather than one persio!

Usually i put myself near arty (using it at no more than 180 yards). Only if i need ti micromanage go in first line. While i move troops simply use "commander map" with N.

I echo this.

HITS is a game changer. Adds so much immersion. You feel the confusion of the battlefield...The flags coming over the hill...Whats over the ridge? Very immersive.

I use 10 for KS mod HITS. Like Biondo said, increase it.

HITS is my play style of choice.

Oh, I can use something like 10?  I will try as that may help.

I have no doubt about the immersion level of HITS - It is just that the interface makes it a lot less controllable than it should. I spend more time struggling with the interface than considering any tactics on the battlefield. Still, will keep practising
