Title: About ARMA
Post by: RedWardancer on August 03, 2016, 04:14:47 AM
Someone talk to me about this game.  As an infantryman, this is right up my alley.  The problem is that I don't want to be forced into playing exclusively online, nor do I want to buy three dozen expansions and add on games to it.

You don't have to. It has great single player campaigns. And mp missions can be played alone. Just like in steelbeast.

If those are your worries then really go get it already today. You're going to love it. Forget mp and just enjoy one if not greatest infantry simulator.

Hi Red

You can play Arma 3 as single player no problem. There are many user created missions to download for free.

There are many free mods which add content such as weapons, vehicles, scenery etc.

You will get a very good combined arms feel with Arma. Also if you do ever want to play mp, we are here :) . Not to mention the very big online Arma community.

I have never regretted purchasing Arma.

Regards

I have 33 different mods for offline missions. I was a bit hesitant to buy Arma 3 due to its slightly futuristic weapons but RHS mod puts back all the US and Russian gear. It looks great and offers a lot of fun.

If you like single player, your options are endless deepening in how much time you want to put into it. You can create your own custom missions that are random, add as many mods as you can handle, or just download missions from the steam and other communities to include the mods they need for those missions. There is a good campaign that comes with it s well. It is sandbox, so almost anything is possible.

Single player would be my best  option, as high school sports are in full practice and scrimmage mode.  I cover five high schools in the county, plus a university on occasion.  This means the fall season will average about thirty or more sports articles weekly.  My only chance would be late Wednesdays and some late Saturdays until November.  Just how it is.  The good news is that I really love the work, so no chance of me quitting the job.

Title: Which one is everyone playing?

Arma 2 or 3?

2 is more stable, and 3 had upgraded graphics and stuff. Some of us play 2 most play 3 I think.

Arma 2 or 3?
All recent missions we have been playing are Arma 3.

Arma 2 still has a large community but we mostly use 3.

What do I need to buy for this?  I don't want to add on expansion packs of useless crap that Warhammer 40,000 or other games have.  I saw the DLC bundle, but do I really want Karts?  No.

All you need is just Arma 3. Nothing else needs to be purchased in order to play with us or alone

Any MODs we use are Free!!!

And we only use mods to enhance our game play e.g. Task Force Radio and Conversion MODs e.g. RHS MOD i personally dont pay for DLCs in ArmA.

Hi Red (ok we have 2 Reds now)

As the guys have said. You only need ARMA3. No DLC. However I have seen the new Tanoa expansion + Arma3 at very good price so it is worth considering.

We play basic Arma with free mods as wislo said.

Pick it up on a sale. Usually 50% off.

Thanks everyone!  It's as good as mine!  Only a question of when I can fix the mic software troubles and have time off to play online.  Probably November on Sundays when the fall seasons come to a close, but I don't know right now.

Have you tried typing into Cortana in Windows 10 microphone trouble, and running the troubleshooter? That fixes it Everytime for me. If that doesn't work, then in team speak, check your settings for your microphone, and make sure it sees it in the drop down selections.

Bad news: nothing has worked on fixing the microphone troubles.  I spent an hour with a Dell techie to fix this.  It worked...for about five minutes.  So, not sure what is the deal.  About the only thing I can think of now is that maybe there's a conflict with the NVIDIA audio.

Good news: I did finally buy ArmA III!  Started the campaign mode, finished the first campaign phase.  But for some reason, it wants to take me back to the Virtual Reality training which is the very beginning.  So, what gives?

Sports is still going on big here, so my weekends are completely booked solid up until perhaps November.  We shall see how many teams go on to the state tournaments.

If I remember correctly, you have to complete all or most of the virtual things, to continue in the campaign.

Title: UPDATE
Post by: RedWardancer on October 04, 2016, 01:07:04 PM
Well, After some brain squeezing, I figured out the problem with my microphone.  Went into the NVIDIA video control panel and got it to work.  Apparently, there seems to be a conflict with the mics software.  Just one problem:

I have a constant hot mic.

Shall look into it more, but I think I can play.  Only a question of availability.
