Title: Flight Videos - Real World/Simulation
Post by: Beef on February 23, 2016, 03:40:54 AM
I thought I'd start a topic about flight videos in general that we can post to when we find one to share. I'll start with this video of some recent flight ops by US Marines on the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer, the sixth ship to carry that name since the USS Enterprise captured HMS Boxer during the War of 1812 near Portland, Maine.

Enjoy!

It truly is. :) One of the pilots who flies this F.E.2b said that you judge combustion and correct mixture by looking at the engine smoke. There is no sideslip and turn indicator too. Your ass has to feel whether you are in a coordinated turn.

Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F landing in Quito at Mariscal Sucre International Airport (SEQU) which is now closed and is a park (with the runway still there). The airport was in the middle of the capital city of Ecuador. The new airport (same name) ICAO code SEQM was built 18km (11 mi) east of the city and began operation on July 2, 2012 at 0619 hours local time when an American Airlines B757 with 100 PAX landed there.

The airport elevation is 2,400 m / 7,874 ft AMSL (Above Mean Sea Level) which makes it a challenge for heavy jets because of the thin air. In contrast, Denver International (KDEN) is at 1656.2 m / 5433.8 ft., so Quito is quite a bit higher.

FSX Pilots

If you're thinking of flying to the new airport in FSX, you won't find it. SEQM is not in stock FSX. Aerosoft has an SEQU scenery addon, but no professional / payware version of the airport yet. I do not recommended flying to SEQU for current flight ops to Quito since AIRAC data will not find it! Fortunately the Ecuador VATSIM division has a freeware version of SEQM to download from their site  here (http://www.guayaquil-fir.org/en/descargas/descargas_para_pilotos/escenarios_ecuador/orderby,2/page,2/). Enjoy!

I know this video was posted I while back, but I am in the mood to comment on it.. ;)

The minigun jams one time, at 2:21. It appears to be a feed jam. That's the only jam in the video.  Feed jams are the most common jams on the minigun, and they are still quite rare. Anyway, at 2:26, he is shooting the gun clear (there is one live round in the gun, which fires, and a bunch of already fired rounds that were yet to be ejected). You know he's clearing the gun because the feeder/delinker is not installed...he puts it back on after that segment. At 3:18, he is either out of ammunition, or he's hit the last round switch (like the end of belt switch in AFVs) and the gun spins down normally for self-clearing.  The rest of the video show no more minigun issues.

Nice video Lumi. Though most people will think the pilot is either drunk or incompetent, I'd say the opposite. That was some great piloting skills (though a tad bit on the unsafe side). Notice how everyone was just watching? And the cameraman didn't run for his/her life either.

The daredevil pilots of Colombia - the vintage Douglas DC-3 plane

https://youtu.be/w-F-cBF5ZbQ

Uploaded on 3 Jun 2011

A tribute to those who have the similar experience! This clip could be recorded in early 2011, in Colombia.

Pilots fly through storms over the jungle along one of the most perilous air routes in the world to deliver supplies.

It is one of the most perilous air routes in the world. Colombian pilots fly through storms in decrepit planes over dense forests to deliver food and goods to villagers isolated from the rest of the world.

Jumping off point is Villavicencio, a city in the foothills of the Andean Cordillera. The destination is any one of the number of native Indian villages scattered throughout the jungle, cut off from civilisation.

The plane's arrival in the villages is a major event. It stops here only once or twice a month, its cargo comprising vegetables, beds, dogs, chicken, TV sets.

In Colombia, Douglas DC-3s plane operate more like rural buses.

Somewhere over Colombia, high above the Amazonian rainforest near the borders with Brazil, an old Douglas DC-3 prop plane is caught in a violent tropical storm.

No visibility. Radio silence. Undoubtedly flight 30-37 is in trouble. Captain Raul tries to stabilise the twin-engine plane to bypass the worst of the storm.

PAN AM AIRLINES INTRODUCES THE BOEING STRATOCRUISER 49964

https://youtu.be/4yMnviP_6fA

Published on 9 Dec 2016

This exciting promotional film for Pan Am's new "double deck Clipper", the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, was made in the last 1940s as the airplane entered worldwide service. Although the film is extremely persuasive about the aircraft's capabilities, the 377 was a disappointment for Boeing with only 55 aircraft plus prototype built before its production was cancelled. The plane suffered from a poor safety record (including a crash-landing at sea in the Pacific documented elsewhere on our Youtube channel) and 11 out of the 56 aircraft produced were lost in accidents through 1960.

The film includes some rare footage from Pan Am's history (including some awkward model shots of early aircraf) beginning at the 8:00 mark. The Consolidated Commodore Flying Boat is seen at 8:30, and the Sikorsky S-42 Brazilian Clipper is seen at 8:50. Check out the shots of the swimsuit-clad men removing the plane's landing gear! The China Clipper Martin M-130 is seen at 9:23 and the Boeing 307 at 9:30. The Boeing Model 307 Stratoliner was the first commercial transport aircraft to enter service with a pressurized cabin. The Boeing 314 is seen at 9:50, and the Douglas DC-4 at 9:58 as well as a Lockheed Constellation or Connie.

The Boeing B-17 "Buck Shot" is seen at the 10:58 mark followed by the B-29 and B-50 aircraft.

The film includes footage of trans-Atlantic routes, and a trip to Brazil and Hawaii by Pan American.

The Boeing 377 Stratocruiser was a large long-range airliner developed from the C-97 Stratofreighter military transport, a derivative of the B-29 Superfortress. The Stratocruiser's first flight was on July 8, 1947. Its design was advanced for its day; its innovative features included two passenger decks and a pressurized cabin, a relatively new feature on transport aircraft. It could carry up to 100 passengers on the main deck plus 14 in the lower deck lounge; typical seating was for 63 or 84 passengers or 28 berthed and five seated passengers.

The Stratocruiser was larger than the Douglas DC-6 and Lockheed Constellation and cost more to buy and operate. Its reliability was poor, chiefly due to problems with the four 28-cylinder Pratt & Whitney Wasp Major radial engines and their four-blade propellers. Only 55 Model 377s were built for airlines, along with the single prototype.

The Boeing 377 Stratocruiser was a civil derivative of the Boeing Model 367, the Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter, which first flew in late 1944. William Allen, who had become President of The Boeing Company in September 1945, sought to introduce a new civilian aircraft to replace reduced military production after Second World War.[4] Although in a recession in late 1945, Allen ordered 50 Stratocruisers, spending capital on the project without an airline customer.[5]

On November 29, 1945 Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) became the launch customer with the largest commercial aircraft order in history, a $24,500,000 (equivalent to $322,600,000 in 2015) order for 20 Stratocruisers. Earlier in 1945 the Boeing C-97 had flown from Seattle to Washington, D.C. nonstop in six hours and four minutes; with this knowledge, and with Pan Am President Juan Trippe's high regard for Boeing after their success with the Boeing 314 Clipper, Pan Am was confident in ordering the expensive plane.

As the launch customer, Pan Am was the first to begin scheduled service, from San Francisco to Honolulu in April 1949. At the end of 1949 Pan Am, BOAC and American Overseas Airlines (AOA) were flying B377s transatlantic, while Northwest Orient Airlines was flying in the United States; in January 1950 United began flights from San Francisco to Honolulu. The last flight of the 377 with United was in 1954, the last with BOAC was in 1959, and the last Northwest was in September 1960. By November 1960 only a weekly Pan Am Honolulu to Singapore flight remained, and the 377 was retired by Pan Am in 1961.

AAD 2012 - onboard the Spartan C-27J display.mp4

https://youtu.be/zhaKBfUOL1s

Published on Sep 26, 2012

One of the best displays at Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD 2012) held at Waterkloof was the Spartan C-27J. The Italian crew went through great lengths to mount our onboard cameras on short notice before their last display at AAD 2012. What a magnificent aircraft with a very friendly and top class crew.

The C-27J Spartan is the perfect fixed-wing multipurpose cargo aircraft for today's diverse missions. Extremely manoeuvrable and versatile, the rugged C-27J boasts the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class and the ability to perform 3.0g force manoeuvres in the style of fighter aircraft, enabling tight turns and a rapid climb and descent. The C-27J can fly further, faster and higher than any other twin engine military transport aircraft in its class.

The C-27J features the unique capability to vary cargo floor height and continuously adjust attitude, ensuring easy loading and unloading of large volume, high-density payloads without ground support equipment and also facilitating drive-in/out of vehicles so that they can be in use immediately.

The C-27J offers significantly more capability than any other aircraft in its class. Its large flight envelope allows it to carry out the most demanding tactical missions quickly, safely and effectively.

The C-27J's structural strength, power and system redundancy provide a high level of safety and an unbeatable mission accomplishment rate. The C-27J has outstanding threat-avoidance capabilities, including a take-off ground run of about 1,900 feet at maximum take-off weight on an unpaved surface. In a tactical environment, the aircraft is capable of climbing to 10,000 ft in 3 minutes, descending from 10,000 ft in under 2.5 minutes, and can handle up to 3.0g forces. At its maximum landing weight, the C-27J has a ground roll of less than 1,115 ft.

No other aircraft in its class can offer a solution with comparable range, payload, flexibility or reliability.

Unbelieveable AIRBUS A380 HARD CROSSWIND LANDING during a STORM at Düsseldorf - 4K

https://youtu.be/roS6oFjCDhc?list=LL7SryNncikhgt5tp3rPn0RQ

Published on 5 Oct 2017 by Cargospotter

"I have filmed a few thousand crosswind landings at several airports in Europe within the past years, but this Airbus A380 crosswind landing was extremly hard and extraordinary. At first it looked like a pretty normal crosswind approach but after touchdown the pilots tried to align with the runway which looked pretty incredible. I have never seen such a tremendous reaction of an airplane after a touchdown. You can see that the pilots tried to align with the runway by using the tail rudder and luckily it worked out.

This video shows the incredible skills of the pilots. Even after an unexpected wind gust after touchdown they managed to re-align with the runway. Incredible job by the pilots !!

Watching an Airbus 380 is always interesting and a pleasure to watch. I would realy like to know what the passengars thought during the Arrival today at Düsseldorf."

It's a big plane. Pilot did well to get the plane under control, but did not do well inducing the motion in the first place....over-steering.

On a separate note...I may be a bit Boeing-biased, but the a380 is a "fugly" plane...something created in the mind of Mary Shelley

An interesing video was posted on Ed Forums. In 1964 USAF conducted tests of its tactical arsenal and filmed the effects on an array of targets. The test included all, or maybe, most types of weapons available at that time, including guns and air-to-air missiles.  20mm M61 had a devastating effect on an F-80 based target drone. Around 15:10 is a premature bomb explosion that damaged both the bomber and the chase aircraft.

I installed it again recently but it keeps crashing whenever I try to use mouse inside the cockpit. Team Fusion did a great job. For a few seconds I thought it was Il-2 Battle of Stalingrad and not Cliffs of Dover.

Ya not sure about that problem but  Battle of Stalingrad wishes it was Cliffs of Dover my friend.

Buts that's a whole other conversation.

Edit: Though I will add this after reading some info tonight, I read that 777 is working on improving their flight models and working on a dynamic campaign also. If that campaign is like Rise of Flights dynamic campaign then it might be worth it on sale but even on sale its alot of money.

^ You really should give IL2 BOS a whirl, it's on sale for 50% off, you'll definitely get your money's worth.  It's earned it place in the ranks of flight sims, If you think cliffs is the end all be all WWII flight sim....well your just missing out.

The up coming coop mode will be added as a free update to all.  I'm sure that will be great for all the Dogs of War flight simmers here that own the sim.

Well I appreciate the feedback and info though I did not ever say Cliffs of Dover was the end all be all of WWII sims.  I know you don't know me but just for clarification most of my adult gaming life online was spent flying WWII flight sims in virtual squadrons, starting with Air Warrior, Warbirds, WWII Online, IL-2 1946 on Hyperlobby and was a beta tester on the still unsurpassed king of WWII flight sims, Battle of Britain 1/2.  Cliffs of Dover was a massive let down for me and almost all of the WWII flight sim community. It was total garbage when it released but what Team Fusion has done with puts it up there without a doubt and what is coming for Cliffs of Dover Fusion will be amazing.  I was a big Rise of Flight fan even though WWI flying is not my wheel house I did enjoy it but then like so many other companies before them 777 Studios decided that selling expensive addon airplanes, maps, campaigns, etc. was more important than anything else.  Sound familiar? :)

Fast forward to IL-2 Battle for Stalingrad,  Rise of Flight money grubbing X10.  But just NOW they are finally listening to the community regarding the flight model issues that have been there since the beginning. Sure it looks pretty nice but it doesnt look any better than Cliffs of Dover now and if you don't get it on sale then the price you pay for the everything in the sim so you have all the planes you will be flying against online is obscene at best and an insult to the community at worst.  So I don't say anyone shouldnt enjoy it, we all have different tastes and standards my issues are not anyone elses nor should they be.  Really the whole point to this is that when it comes to WWII flight sims and their accuracy I am VERY OCD and have spent alot of my adult life studying and reading about WWII aviation.

Like I said I am very happy many enjoy IL-2 BoS, I personally won't give them any of my money at this point but thats me.  On the other hand the IL-2 Fusion team is a bunch of flight sim junkie modders who do it because they love it and got lucky making something that so much improved Cliffs of Dover that 1C offered them a position in the company and their own development branch of IL-2.  They are well into creating the first addon for Cliffs of Dover after all these years and that being the North African theater and campaign plus a bunch of new planes.  This will be a pay addon but I bet it wont be over $15 if not less.  So that is where I put my support rather than a dev that feels every plane they create is somehow worth $20 and when you question them they say well you just don't want to support the WWII simming community. PFT!

Anyway sorry for the long winded post and I dont mean to be preachy but if there is one thing I take serious is WWII sims :)  Sometimes its best to tune me out and not get me started. :)

Happy flying!

If you start with IL2 BOS in the usual 50% off sale, you will have most of the best planes in multiplayer.  Use that to decide if you like it or not, plus you get to fly in a totally different front.  It's nice to enjoy multiple sims and have choices.

The Bombardier Dash 8 or Q-Series, previously known as the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8, is a series of twin-engine, medium range, turboprop airliners. Introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984, they are now produced by Bombardier Aerospace. Over 1,000 Dash 8s of all models have been built, with Bombardier forecasting a total production run of 1,192 aircraft of all variants through to 2016.

The Dash 8 was developed from the de Havilland Canada Dash 7, which featured extreme short take-off and landing (STOL) performance. With the Dash 8, DHC focused on improving cruise performance and lowering operational costs. The engine chosen was the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100. The aircraft has been delivered in four series. The Series 100 has a maximum capacity of 39, the Series 200 has the same capacity but offers more powerful engines, the Series 300 is a stretched, 50-seat version, and the Series 400 is further stretched to 78 passengers. Models delivered after 1997 have cabin noise suppression and are designated with the prefix "Q". Production of the Series 100 ceased in 2005, and the Q200 and Q300 in 2009.

Kakuma is a town in northwestern Turkana County, Kenya. It is the site of a UNHCR refugee camp, established in 1991. The population of Kakuma town was 60,000 in 2014, having grown from around 8,000 in 1990. In 1991, the camp was established to host the 12,000 unaccompanied minors who had fled the war in Sudan and came walking from camps in Ethiopia.

Kakuma is situated in the second poorest region in Kenya and as a result of this poverty, there are ongoing tensions between the refugees and the local community that has occasionally resulted in violence. Compared to the wider region, the Kakuma camp has better health facilities and a higher percentage of children in full-time education, which resulted in a general notion that the refugees were better off than the locals. The host community is composed largely of nomadic pastoralists who stick to their traditions and don't co-operate with refugees. Camp is becoming a normal part of the regional socio-economic landscape and a part of livelihood options available in the region. Kakuma is one of two large refugee camps in Kenya; the second and bigger one is Dadaab.

Malnutrition, communicable disease outbreaks, and malaria are all ongoing problems, while donor support has faltered due to conflicts in other parts of the world. Many people in Kakuma are long-term refugees, living in hopelessness and desperation. The situation is particularly bad for young people. Many of the refugees hope to leave Kakuma for third country resettlement in another country. For example, the "Lost Boys of Sudan" were a special group who were resettled from the camp to the United States.

Huge bounce - Wing flex - Fuel venting

https://youtu.be/Gw-EJUB4CKs

Published on Feb 3, 2018

"By far the biggest landing bounce I've seen for a plane as heavy as 40-tonnes. As you can see, the force of the impact causes the wings to bend and fuel to be ejected from the wingtips.

The day was one of strong winds more or less along the runway, gusting to around 24 knots (28mph).

The plane has been hangared at BHX in the days since the incident, but I've no idea if this 'touchdown' on 1 February 2018 is the reason."

The model looks great. :) It should not have started though without priming the engine unless the engine was very hot. Last weekend I flew in a C152 which started after 5 strokes. 3 wasn't enough even on a hot day.

Classic British Jets - English Electric Lightning

https://youtu.be/_w34PMS4QtM

The English Electric Lightning is a supersonic fighter aircraft of the Cold War era. It was designed, developed, and manufactured by English Electric, which was subsequently absorbed by the newly formed British Aircraft Corporation. It was then marketed as the BAC Lightning. The Lightning was the only all-British Mach 2 fighter aircraft. The Lightning was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF). Although it was the RAF's primary interceptor for more than two decades it was never required to attack another aircraft.

The Lightning is powered by two Rolls-Royce Avon turbojet engines in a unique staggered stacked installation in the fuselage. The Lightning was developed to intercept increasingly capable bomber aircraft (Tupolev Tu-16, Tupolev Tu-22, Tupolev Tu-95), and thus has exceptional rate of climb, ceiling, and speed; pilots have described flying it as "being saddled to a skyrocket". This performance made the Lightning a 'fuel critical' aircraft meaning that its missions are dictated to a high degree by its limited range. Later developments provided greater range and speed along with aerial reconnaissance and ground-attack capability.

Following retirement in the late 1980s, many of the remaining aircraft became museum exhibits and, until 2010, three Lightnings were kept flying at "Thunder City" in Cape Town, South Africa. In September 2008, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers conferred on the Lightning its "Engineering Heritage Award" at a ceremony at BAE Systems' site at Warton Aerodrome.

Coming Soon.

Here is a short in-dev video showing some of the highlights of the exterior of our upcoming Hawk

The Hawk T1 features an exquisitely modelled exterior, with intricate details such as the landing gear which is animated to precisely match the real aircraft’s complex linkages and mechanisms. The visual fidelity offered by X-Plane’s PBR-capable graphics engine allows for stunning material characteristics and dynamic reflections, with every concave and convex surface, and every bump map lending its shape and surface characteristics to the reflection in real-time.

Also featured in this video are the work-in-progress multi-layered 3D engine sounds, whose characteristics change depending on the camera viewpoint, and the engine exhaust shimmer effects.

Looks like that is an F/A-18C and not the Super Hornet. You can tell by the engine intakes and the UFC in the cockpit. He does walk past a few Super Hornets, but the one he gets into is the C model. If you look at 3:02 in the video during his walk around you'll see "F/A-18C" and the BuNo 164257 (http://www.joebaugher.com/navy_serials/thirdseries23.html)

You're obviously correct. It's the legacy version, which in addition to the intakes, is visible in the cockpit. The new one has a touchscreen UFC and digital engine gauges. I did not look at it carefully enough. Thanks :)

Starfighter Song [with Lyrics]

https://youtu.be/v6b453wtC5Y

Published on 11 Jul 2011
(Translated using Google translate)
A song by Eckhard Südmeyer.
Major Eckhard Südmeyer and Lieutenant Johannes Asanger died on July 9, 1992 in a plane crash.

The F-104G Starfighter, also known as the "widow maker" by the tabloid press, was sold to the Federal Republic of Germany in a figure of around 700 copies.
In more than 20 years in the service of the Bundeswehr many of the machines crashed, where 119 pilots died senseless.
Nevertheless, the Starfighter was adored and loved by its pilots.

The most notable difference between these old films and new documentaries is the tone of voice. In these old films it seems a bit devoid of any emotion. It's not that apparent in this film but I saw a couple in which the narrator was describing gruelsome scenes as if it was you aunt's 20th wedding anniversary.

I had goosebumps when I saw this video and I really look forward to it. Vulcan Productions managed to get hold of the original negatives of the famous William Whyler's documentary of Memphis Belle documentary. They colour corrected the original raw footage and it looks stunning by 1943 standards. It is a stunning different in detail, contras and colour saturation.

Best Hornet Demo Ever? Air Tattoo 2019 Finnish Air Force F-18 Hornet Display

https://youtu.be/XLzfUADizFs

Published on 19 Jul 2019

Very Impressive display carried out by the Finnish Air Force Hornet Solo Display Team, the best F/A-18 Hornet demo I have ever seen (and I have seen a few), the aircraft seems to have thrust vectoring engines, perfoming flat spins, pedal turns, high AOA aileron rolls etc... The footage used in this video was recorded during the two rehearsals carried out the days before the Royal International Air Tattoo 2019 (RIAT 2019)

Ilmavoimien Hornet-soolo sai tunnustuksen toista kertaa peräkkäin, sillä viime vuonna palkinto myönnettiin kapteeni Lauri Mäkiselle. Lisäksi soolo sai RIAT-lentonäytöksen ystävien (Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo) parhaaksi arvioimalle suoritukselle (Best Overall Flying Demonstration) myönnettävän As The Crow Flies Trophy -palkinnon.

Royal Navy Sea Kings Fly Off Into The Sunset

https://youtu.be/TQAY49LePqw

Mar 21, 2016
The Royal Navy has said farewell to its "Land Rover of the skies" - the Sea King Mark 4.

Today five Junglies - sporting their distinctive green military colours - took a final bow after 36 years faithful service with the Commando Helicopter Force at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.

They took to the skies of the South West - taking in Portsmouth, Poole, Plymouth, Okehampton, Britsol and Glastonbury - for a farewell flypast.

As well being on board one of the military flights ahead of their decommissioning, our cameras were also invited to witness the final deck landing on the Royal Navy's flagship HMS Bulwark.
