Mission Summary :
The last weeks have been damp and cold. It’ s not exactly the kind of weather you expected in the Middle East. We've been here since September and the only thing we have fought with so for was boredom. We have been away from our families, your friends and our life for too long. Last month, on the 17th the air offensive started. From what we have seen on CNN, Saddam took a heavy pounding but on the ground it’s been quiet… almost. At the end of last month Saddam forces made an attempt to take a Saudi town of Al-Khafji. Two of our recon units were trapped in the city for a couple of days but we let the Saudis to liberate they homeland a few days after. Two LAVs were lost due to friendly fire.
You are part of Task Force Ripper, 2nd Marine Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine division. Our tanks have been mixed up with LAVs (NZLAV) to give you more flexibility. Our long wait has finally come to an end. Two days ago President Bush rejected Soviet peace plan and demanded Iraq begin withdrawal from Kuwait by noon Feb. 23 to avoid ground war. Iraqi information official branded U.S. position “shameful ultimatum and set one-sixte of Kuwait’s 950 oil wells ablaze. Today it’s the time to cross the border and liberate the country.

Excerpts of the battalion commander's (HVAOC 6) orders for...BLUEFOR (D.O.W.)
1) SITUATION:
a) Enemy:
Iraqi forces have been under relentless attacks since January 17th and are expected to be severely weakened. According to our S2 data we are facing XX Corps 14th Infantry Division which is expected to be reinforced by a nearby 5th Mechanised Division. Their equipment is made of older Russian designs T-55s and BMP-1. The enemy had several months to prepare for a defence and is expected to fight from well prepared positions. Their artillery was mostly destroyed during the air campaign but in spite of their we are fighting the 3rd largest army in the world battle-hardened during recent war with Iran.
b) Own:
We are a reinforced C Company Task Force Ripper made of the following units:
2 platoons of M-60A3s (TTS)
2 platoons of LAV-25s (NZLAV)
2x M113 ITV from the battalion support company
1x M113 MICLIC
1x M9 Combat Engineering Vehicle (Wisent ARV)
1x M113 Eng
2x Supply Truck
2x Fuel Truck
Other friendly units will advance along the front so make sure that you have a positive ID before you open fire. I know I repeat it over and over but is imperative that you make sure that what you is in you sights is enemy. We don’t need any more blue on blue incidents.
c) Attachments and detachments:
1x Smoke Screen to cover breaching operation. (Trigger 1)
1x off map artillery battery HE, ICM
1x battery of MLRS with ICM
2) MISSION:
Your mission is to advance through the minefield and reach PL Midway. Once reached, you will prepare a hasty defence and wait for the the rest of the Task Force to advance through the breach. Our ultimate goal is Al Jaber airbase located near Kuwait City.
3) EXECUTION:
Breech the minefield and head towards Kuwait City.
4) TERRAIN AND WEATHER:
Terrain ahead is mostly flat like a pool table and I have nothing more to tell you about it. February has been rainy and this day is expected to be no different. Furthermore, Iraqi forces set several oil wells on fire which limited visibility to approximately 1000 m. A big advantage of this is that their forces do not have thermal sights and can see shit in these condition. The disadvantage is plainly obvious: our aviation assets have very limited chance to support our advance and it will be difficult to ID the target.

I'm in
I will take an M60 please. Any platoon.
-
I'm in XO and Engineer/ supply.
One request is that we ditch fuel truck and gain another 2 supply as we never use a lot of fuel during our missions.
-
I will come. Few questions though.
What are M901 ITV ( missile hammer head's) for? Or are those supposed to be M113 FO / FistVs?
Is there any particular vehicle for, or carrying forward observer teams?
I would really like to try role of indirect fires officer in future missions when that comes possible.
-
If no such role or vehicle available. I'd be interested trying M901 ITVs. Or taking a command of Aslaw platoon.
-
M-60, please.

Looking forward to this and hope I can make it, schedule permitting that day (family obligations).
FYI, the Marines had both M60A1s and M1A1 Abrams tanks . Albeit, mostly M60s (less than 20 M1s of the overall 260 MBTs in the 2nd MarDiv) The Marine M60s didn't have laser range finders or thermal optics. Furthermore, there was an Army Brigade, the Tiger Brigade, equipped with approx 180 Abrams attached to the MEF, and I image some M901 ITVs.

Looks like a fun mission!
-
It definitely is! I tested this mission while it was in the making and really. Lusik has done great work creating this mission for us. :)
-
Looking forward to when I can join in then.
-
You have played with us several times, been active on forum.... hmm how many times you have played with us on Sundays?
-

You haven't really played SB with us. You need only get a few games under your belt. perhaps 3. This is part of our process. It ensures that no players enjoyment is reduced.
There are many opportunities to play SB with our members.

I will update the manning list when I'm back home. Regarding M-60s, yes I know these were A1s (and I was a bit surprised when I found it out) but since we don't have an stadia range finder on A3 the range finder will probably stay.
M1s are available as reinforcements. I've put basic research into it and rather tried to balance it with playability in mind rather than attempt to be fully historically accurate. It would be too Essie with M1s only. ;)

I have only made 2 Sundays (had my wifes concert to go to this past Sunday) & I have played 5-6 times with several people in DoW for informal games & have observed Saturday DoW twice.
Unfortunately with the hours I keep my only option for SB multiplayer is weekends.

M60 please! ;D

Disable the rangefinder! Get up on the 105 Delta be goooood training!! See you all on the gunnery range tonight! lol

Would someone update manning list on this. Or should I do it? Also I wonder who we will get to CO.

These are Improved TOW Vehicles but we rarely have them in missions.

Thanks Asid. I've just come back home.
-
Does someone want to CO? Or does anyone have anything against if I would?
-
Seems nobody wants the poor LAVS,put me in 1/3/A
-
It seems that I will CO... so Cougar, I want you to take M901 ITV's. Lusik take platoon of LAVs, and calpurnius you can choose either to help Lusik with LAVs or to go with Asid and Beef to M60s. Is there someone without place to go?
All those who didn't sign in start filling from LAVs
-
Hi Guys,
back from my travels for a while. I plan to observe tonight if that is okay.

There are a few things you can do to make pings better:
• Turn off Steam
• Turn off virus/malware progs
• Make sure defrag does not start while you are playing
• Turn off internet browser and anything using the net
• Make sure you have enough RAM
The initial host was from Europe but there were issues so we switched to our host from USA. He has a great connection and hardware. We can try other European hosts next time.
Here is the AAR

Hope this helps.
