Title: Unable to view tacview file
Post by: DirtSailor on August 28, 2018, 03:05:31 AM
Hi Gents

I downloaded the free trial a few weeks ago, bought the key this past weekend.  I have been able to view files except for this one.

https://gyazo.com/8e028429a20a5ba0c2bbed5da0086a3c (https://gyazo.com/8e028429a20a5ba0c2bbed5da0086a3c)

Nothing has changed in the format of it.  It is a d/l from one of our CSG1 squadron mates.  It's size is 5,121kb.    I have the standard version.    But for some reason, this particular file is a no go.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi DirtSailor

The TacView dev is on a family holiday at the moment.

Try this. Disable "zip compression" in dcs "special option" tab for tacview

Regards

Thanks for the reply ASID.  I will try this when I get home from work today.  In the meantime, I posted on my virtual squadron discord for the others that were encountering the same thing.

Update:   guys in my virtual squadron did as you suggested and all report it's working now.

thanks mate.  One question... If you do export from DCS in compressed mode... can you not Uncompress in tacview?  And if not, is there any other way to decompress it?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to recover broken zip files when DCS World crash. This is a limitation of zip file format (not Tacview or DCS World).

For that reason, like Asid has suggested, it is better to turn off the compression if your DCS tends to crash a lot. Note that you can still compress the file afterward from Tacview UI or command line to save disk space.
