CONINGTON AIRFIELD

An excellent base for your GA fleet!

Compatibility: Flight Simulator X, FSX: Steam Edition, P3D v3, P3D v4

Official page

Conington is home to Flying Club Conington, to which G-BOZI (PA-28-161 Warrior II), G-BGKU (PA-28R Arrow III), G-BGAE (C152) and G-GCCL (Duchess) belong. These aircraft have all featured in our in-house developments so we thought it was high time we brought a high-quality rendition of the airfield to Flight Simulator X and Prepar3D.

Conington, otherwise known as Peterborough Business Airport (ICAO: EGSF) is a privately owned airfield located in the UK county of Cambridgeshire, six miles south of Peterborough and twenty miles north-west of Cambridge. The airfield started life as RAF Glatton, built in 1942 and used by the USAF B-17 Flying Fortress bombers throughout WWII. The airfield was mothballed by the RAF after the USAF left at the end of WWII, but it saw activity again with GA flying from the 1970s onwards until Flying Club Conington took over in 2000.

The airfield is equipped with a licensed 987-metre asphalt runway (10/28) with a 100m overshoot and an unlicensed 800-metre concrete runway. JET A-1 and AVGAS fuel, a hard apron area and grass area...

Command Ops 2 - The Sharp End Gaming Blog's Alternative Scenario for Red Devils Over Arnhem

A good wargaming session with the legendary Command Ops 2 engine was long overdue and Chris from the Sharp End Gaming blog offered the perfect reason to strap my paratrooper helmet and get command the Red Devils at Arnhem.

The above video briefly describes the scenario. But I recommend to read Chris' post at his blog to understand the rationale for this scenario. In a nutshell, a variation of the 9 day long stock scenario which is shorter (2 days) and has all the brigades (including the Polish) ready for action very early during the scenario. It's more playable but still will demand a lot from your commander's skills.

Cheers

JC

IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Blitz - Bury Me at the Beach

Never been a big fan of the Hurricane, but will not pass a chance to sit in the virtual cockpit of one in the Blitz edition of IL-2 Cliffs of Dover.

Quick mission: jump on a flight of Fiat G50s returning to France. My Hurricane is the one in the background.

This is actually a quick mission (semi-canned premade missions in IL-2), but I am compelled to share it because not even the peculiar ending took away the immersion.

Cast of characters: a flight of 3 Hurricane Is, one with me strapped into the tight cockpit of the sturdy bird. With a top speed of 255 MPH, I am expected to compel the enemy into a turning fight.

Cast of characters II: a flight of Fiat G.50s, with their own problems of maximum airspeed (254 MPH) and range.

After closing in with the unaware Italians, somebody in their flight raises the alarm. They scatter in groups of two, with the acrobatic elegance of airshow performers. From the distance, their flight opens like a vintage ladies' hand fan. They are not trying to impress us but rather to offer us very bad options.

Whatever pair one could chase it would mean trouble. Pursuing the ones that broke...
