Title: Observation Range
Post by: choppinlt on March 14, 2016, 01:37:55 AM
I am making some revisions on enemy unit detection. I have not found any good data on battlefield visual observation range yet, and I thought I would post the question to you all. I have some decent guesstimates, but I was hoping to find a solid reference. For instance, when you have an observation post in a church bell tower that is on a slight hill using standard field glasses, at what distances would you reliably be able to view enemy movements in the open (i.e. assume no intervening terrain) with perfect visibility? When I say enemy movements, I mean being able to accurately discern A) an infantry company in march column, or B) a motorized company in march column, and not easily confuse it with other traffic.

Thanks!
