Title: Has 4.0 fixed this major problem?
Post by: RedWardancer on September 13, 2016, 07:30:38 PM
OK, playing SB 3.028 on my own with the odd spare time hours I had.  Played at night for the USA to take advantage of their NVG equipment.  In the scenario, I used a dismount team to sneak up directly behind a T-90.  Darn troops wouldn't fire.  In the image provided, I can see it in F7 and F8 mode.  I'm close enough to pee on the TC hatch if the game allowed.  But no shots.  The only thing I can think of that might be the problem is that the system does not give the grunts NVG equipment to shoot at night, or someone who designed the scenario failed to provide NVG options for the grunts.

So, what gives?  I'm hoping 4.0 or 4.004 or 4.xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx fixed this.  I'm aware that this is a tank simulator after all.  But still, the grunts should be able to fire at night, been able to do that since 1989 when I was a poor sod carrying a rifle.

I think that it's better. But probably not as good as you would hope.

Proof is that Colebrook killed my tank with infantry on last Saturdays game with an RPG. - I take that as improvement.

How ever it was about the only loss to infantry weapons I had...  and there were a lot of troops. So...     maybe not as huge improvement as we would hope for.

.  As much as we would like to have most modern equipment I think that in most cases reality is that for example. RPGs cannot or just arent equipped with night optics, sufficient enough to engage in dark. - And as antitank infantry man myself I can tell you that its not the most easy task to set a rpg ready and to get proper aim in darkness.

Yes we had NGV option... but it was hardly never used.

Hi Red
Yes, that's pretty close for a grunt. What was the poor sod armed with? More than just a rifle, right?

The AT-4.  Later, I tried testing with the STORM, neither were able to shoot at the tank no matter how close they were.  Only the heavy ATGM's are effective at night firing such as the Javelins, etc.  I guess you cannot fire an ATM at night with your NVG's.  So, from now on, I'll just use my grunts for spotting at night.

In real life you would attempt to set a defensive position where your shooting sector is marked, and where your weapon can be placed to shoot at correct location. Preferably your wingman being ready to use illumination pistol to light up area for you to shoot.

It is possible to have to with NVG. But very very rare. Also it's difficult to install in hurry. If course depends of weapons. But you get the idea.

And sorry to hear that crunts didn't fire. Did you try using T key. New fire this target command?

Forgot all about that option.  I wonder if it will work, now that I have 4.004?
