M1A1 Platoon Attack on Reinforced Motorised Rifle Company by Panzer_Leader

1. SITUATION
a) Enemy
RED constitutes a BMP-equipped motorised rifle company (MRC) reinforced by a platoon of T-72s. RED is dug in to the immediate north and north-east of the OBJ and may have deployed minefields around its position to channel and disrupt our advance. RED artillery concentrations were struck by coalition air assets overnight and intelligence confirms RED artillery has been rendered combat ineffective and should not impede your attack.
b) Own
You command a troop (Tp) of M1A1 AIM SA. Your Tp is advancing as part of a combat team (CT) effort to clear the valley to your south as a precursor to further offensive operations by the battle group (BG). Your Tp comprises the right flank of the CT, the boundary of which follows the river. The CT's main effort is taking place to your east and to protect the flank of the main effort it is critical you secure the road junction and town at OBJ. Without control of the OBJ the flank of the BG will remain open and it will be unable prosecute its advance south. All available artilley and air support has been committed to support the CT's main effort to your east so you will need to secure the OBJ on your own.
c) Attachments / Detachments.
A platoon of NZLAV-IMV from a coalition partner is attached to assist clear and secure the OBJ.
2. MISSION
Your Tp must conduct a deliberate attack to secure the OBJ with sufficient forces to repel any counterattacks launched by the MRC's parent battalion. Counterattacking forces can be expected from the south and are likely to comprise BMPs or T-72s in platoon strength.
3. EXECUTION
Advance south and secure the OBJ. The specific plan for your Tp is up to you. It may be possible to use the higher elevation of the terrain to the east and south east of the line of departure to attack the OBJ by fire. You should conserve your ammunition as resupply will not be possible until you have secured and consolidated on the objective.

SCORING:
- Clear OBJ of enemy units and hold it against RED counterattack = 60 points. Mission will end 5:00 minutes after this condition is met.
- Maintain combat effectiveness above 60%. Each percentage point of strength above 60% equals 1 point. Maximum = 40 points.
SCENARIO NOTES:
- This scenario has been specifically designed to practice careful planning, appreciation of terrain and tactical movement by sections within a troop (platoon) using overwatch techniques. It is purposely balanced in favour of RED to be unforgiving of tactical errors and to drive these lessons home. It is challenging but can be completed with the forces at your disposal.
- The M1A1 AIM SA is represented by the M1A2 SEP with 'Commander's sight' disabled.
