Title: Version 1.0.8 In Playtest and Available to Customers
Post by: schwerpt on July 27, 2016, 04:44:01 AM
Big News!!!!!

WWII-E v1.0.8 is available for the playtesters/customers at the same link you were given when you purchased.  It should be considered as a beta version, with the actual release to occur after feedback from the playtesters. Please contact me if you have lost the link, or have an older version.  If you are in my database, then I will email you the link.

Just go to the link, and download the following files, and write them into your wwe folder.  Overwrite the files you have.
1. scen35.exe
2. scen36.exe
3. scen37.exe
4. scen38.exe
5. scen42.exe
6. wwe_cmd_panel_reports
7. wwe.exe

Hope you enjoy the enhancements and improved AI.  We look forward to your feedback.
Ron

When you have updated. The game will still show V1.07.

This is normal as it is not a full release.

This is great! :)

Ron, you mentioned in a Grogheads forum post that 12 enhancements to the ground AI were tested and ready for release (http://grogheads.com/forums/index.php?topic=16864.15). Any chance you can tell us specifically what the enhancements are so we know what to look for when testing/playing?

Thanks,

C

Looking around a little more I just came across the following thread: http://dogsofwarvu.com/forum/index.php/topic,2660.0.html?PHPSESSID=e3kqk2ovq2buql6nga98dc8nc3, which is outside of the World War II Europe 1939-1945 sub-forum this thread is posted in.

Needless to say, I didn't see this thread (i.e., Topic: WWII-Europe v108) until just now...

If the ground AI is in an aggressive attack posture, does this also mean that it may also choose to attack more aggressively like with the "Capture Hex Option"?

The latest version of the AI is more aggressive in its Move to Attacks, and its striking further in enemy territory to take cities and cut supply paths.  It attacks only when it has odds greater than or equal to 1-1 odds.  It uses HQ Reserve now.  It makes Combat Moves.  It uses Digin much better.

The air and naval AI also has some improvements.

Ron

PS The AI has to be considered a work of art.  I am not through with it, but this latest v1.0.8 is much better than the previous.

Definitely a nice set of enhancements. I will start up a scenario soon and post back.

I'm anxious to see how well deeply striking units pay regards to their flanks.

Thanks,

C

Hi Ron,
I posted this in the Wishlist section but should have posted here as well.

I would like to see the AI defend a little better.
In five games of the (49)Crimea break-in, the AI (Russia) does not defend Sevastopol at all.
In fact it leaves it totally undefended.
All Soviet AI units as of 1.08 are all concentrated and head for Yarylgach?

Saved game file is too large to post.

Thanks for the example.  I'll add this to the list to check.  There is such a balance of attacking aggressively versus not defending the key objectives.
For v1.0.7, I added a calculation to determine whether the AI should be aggressive, passive, or somewhat in the middle.

Hi Ron,

I forwarded a long list of enhancements and suggestions at the Wish List. Nonetheless I forgot to add a couple of points that might be worth considering:

13) HQs:
13.1 Seem to be a little difficult to destroy.
13.2 Destroying enemy HQs does not bring any benefit aside of stopping those HQ´s reserves going into their units. A feature I very much liked from RGW was that units whose HQ was destroyed could not attack -they could defend though- to reflect the chaos brought by the destruction of their chain of command and communications.

14) Air units could / should be overrun.
When an enemy unit enters into an airbase the air units there should be either destroyed or suffer losses.

Best regards

Yes yes yes. These should be easy to implement and emphasize the need to protect one's lines of communications. Not sure if the AI is ready for that.
