Dear tankers, armor geeks and panzer fans!

We are happy to announce a public playtest planned for the 29th of December, ending on the 1st of January. This is your chance to get in, get down and let loose in highly authentic, meticulously detailed tanks and fight it out against other player crews. So grab your friends and get going - the battle awaits!

What can you expect from the playtest?
You will play the current state of the game. We expect there to be bugs since we have never tested the game as this scale. If you find some, please add report them on discord.
There is also a lot of art assets that is not done so please be aware of that.

Hi. It's finally time for playtest.

I will start allowing player in very soon but not all at once.
Feedback and reporting of bugs is very welcome. Best is to report them on discord but if you are not part of the community you can post them here.

Known issues
Issue: Push to talk with motion controllers are not working
Workaround: Don't use PTT

Issue: Hands get stuck floating in air.
Should not affect anything else than visuals.

Issue: Parts of tanks are driving around when in the "killcam"
Will be fixed later

The time has come for another test!
I got a lot of feedback on the last one and there has been some big changes in the code to make the aiming more responsive. There have also been some quality-of-life improvements but not a lot when it comes to the gameplay and graphics.

When?
The test will run from the 16th to the 18th of July and you can sign up on the store page
by clicking the "Request Access" button.
If you got access to the last one you will have it this one too. I hope to let everyone in just like last time.

About the playtest
In preparation for moving the game into early access we will have a small test to see if the VOIP and connection issues have been resolved.

When?
This test will be a bit shorter than the last one and will run between the 17th and 18th of September

A day I have been looking forward to for a long time if finally here!

My focus for the game will be first of all to sort out bugs and finish up the map. Another map is already in the works and hopefully it should not be too long until you can play it.

I also want to thank all of you who took part in the playtests! It has been super helpful and the game would be in a worse state if it wasn't for you.

Hi. You no longer need to look at the steam page for controls. You can now take a look at them before you start playing.

I am working on getting the VOPI fixed and I have added some extra debug information for that.
It is a slow process but I have some leads to what the issue is.

New aim option added

Hi! I have added a new option (defaulted to on) that changes how you aim using motion controllers. The pivot of the cranks will now adapt when your hand goes outside of the crank radius.

This should make it a lot easier to aim when not looking at your hands. If you prefer the old way you can disable “Adaptive cranks” in settings.

Explosion damage and Chat

Hello!

I have a few small updates for you guys today.


Explosions can now disable crew members. So be careful when riding with the hatch open.
I have started work on a Chat and Notification system. It’s still WIP and only “All chat” is currently enabled. You will get notifications when someone joins or leaves the server. The plan is to expand it to notify when someone joins/leaves your tank and of course to support team chat.
There is only keyboard support now and to have a VR keyboard is also on the list to fix. This would not be the ideal way of communication but I hope this can be a substitute until I manage to get the VOIP stable.

The key for all chat is “Y”

Commander map update

Changed so the air support is now called on the map.

Commanders can now also ping on the map or set markers. The unused slot will be for artillery in a coming update.

Work has started on the hands but needs more work on skinning, animations and shading.

Vivox voip integration

Hi.

The voip stability has been a big issue since the game was released.



Vivox is now used instead of steam voice and I hope it will be more stable.

So there is some big changes when it comes to how the voip works.
All crew voip is now proximity based so you can hear other crews when you are close, even enemies. The range is 40 meters.

I hope to add more options like volume control for the voip soon.
Please test this out and let me know how it works. All feedback is welcome!

Hi. Here comes another small update with some bugfixes, some updated voip support and the ability to lock tanks.
To lock a tank press "L" when in the tank or interact with the switch where it says "Tank Open"
If the light is red other players should not be able to join your tank.

New map - Wake Island

I know it has been a long time since the last update but a new map is finally here. It’s still in a blockout stage but should be playable.

The map is 55% scale of the real island and comes with a new gamemode where you will need to capture the points in order.

There have also been some changes across a lot of the base systems that may have caused issues so please report if you find any.

Hi, here is another small update.

Added so the camera now follows the sight when playing as gunner on PC in the Firefly
Indicator is added to the sight to see relative turret rotation
All positions should now have the correct hand models
Voip PTT buttons is now also bound to mouse 4/5 buttons

Hi. I know it's been a long time since the last update but I hope that I'm finally back to be able to support the game.

Just a small update today but more to come.

•   Added the option to not allow spectating when hosting the game.
•   Abandoned tanks will now stay on the battlefield and will cost the owning team tickets if destroyed.


I am working on getting the voip issue solved and are in contact with the team providing it.

Looking forward my plan is to finish the art on the current maps. I want to investigate the possibility of having a co-op gam mode with objectives and obviously better AI. (no promises)

Glad to be back and thank you all who support me by playing and coming with suggestions.

A new map is added to test your driving and shooting skills. There are currently 2 different tracks and one shooting range. (Before you say anything I know the distances on the sights are not correct, this will be addressed)

Hi. Finally back with some updates. I hope I will be able to keep doing more and I’m sorry it’s been so long since the last one.

When capturing a point NPCs will now be spawned to defend the point. This is very much WIP and has not been tested and I expect there to be some issues with performance or replication. The host can turn off the spawning before starting the game if needed.

The bot tanks have also gotten some love and should no longer just charge straight into the point. I hope you like the changes.

The editor allows you to create your own scenarios. Add or remove capture points, spawn positions or change the game type.

The plan for the future is that this editor will also allow for coop missions.

The user interface is not very user-friendly and I hope to improve on that moving forward.

Sharing
Only the host needs to have the scenario files but feel free to share them. There is no workshop integration so this is what you will have to do:
Navigate to where you installed the game. All scenario files are stored in “\SteelCrew\Content\Scenarios\” The ones that comes with the install is called “1default.txt”, “2wakeisland.txt” and “3training.txt”. Let’s say you name your scenario “MyTest” then you should have a “MyTest.txt” file here that you can send. If you want to add a scenario someone else has sent you you will have to add the file here.


How to use the editor:
Scenario name: Set a display name so when hosting you know what you have selected.

Description: A short description of what the scenario is.

Capture points can be added, moved, rotated and scaled. When the game mode is “tug of war” the order they are in will determine in what order they are allowed to be captured in. Each point has a flag that should be placed close to the center of the point.

Ai targets are always connected to a capture point and when playing with bots, this is where they will try to go.

Spawn points can be set to team A or B and the ranks will spawn in the orientation of the spawn point. They should be connected to a capture point if the game mode is “tug of war”. A minimum of 4 spawn points per team is recommended with some space in between.
