The balloon begins to lose altitude so the player must throw out every weight and also the most valuable chest. In the chest there are a compass and a binocular. After hours of gaining altitude the balloon begins to drop, but now more rapidly. The player fall off from gondola, the balloon flies some distance unmanned and crashes.

The player swims to the nearest island and the challenge begins.

Important
Please make sure you read our 'Important Release Announcement' (https://steamcommunity.com/games/655290/announcements/detail/2620403281234661429) before actually buying the game. Thank you!

World
•   Procedural generated map - map generation is driven by a random seed number given by the player
•   Endless or ~5500 x 5500km (3500 x 3500 miles) map in story mode
•   Clusters with bigger distances between them - players can spend days on the open ocean traveling between island clusters.
Players must be in possession of:
- enough food and water
- sailing knowledge (based on wind direction)

Navigation and Cartography
•   Compass - Used for navigating between local islands. For local map making
•   Triangulation - Used mainly for mapping the islands in the actual cluster

Weather and Seasons
•   Real Pacific islands weather data is used in our weather engine
•   27 different modifications for weather engine - players can choose between different weather models:
Normal (default), hot, cold, wet, dry, windy, calm modifiers. Every weather scenario results in a totally different gameplay. Imagine a calm scenario making sailing difficult whereas a scenario with lots of storms and high humidity makes managing fires a real challenge.
•   Latitude based weather and season - the actual weather is depending not only on the actual day of the year but also from the players actual latitude. Don't like the winter season in the northern zones? Simply travel to the south for a warm summer breeze.
•   Complex temperature system (sun, shadow, wind, rain …) - Player can experience the temperature as in real life: Hide from the direct sun among the shades. Know to use the direct sun and the wind to speed up drying when you and clothes got wet. And when it's cold and windy without protection you'll feel the breeze of the freeze.

Fire and Rain
•   Dynamic - the fire engine reacts to the environment and to the used burnable material:
- Wind - Wind ensures a quick burning fire process but can also make igniting a fire place much more difficult. In some cases you need to protect your fire places from the wind.
- Rain - Rain makes the used resources wet and affects stability and intensity of fire places. If fires are not placed under a roof or trees those will go out over time because of the rain.
- Moisture - Reliable fires depend on the 'wet property' of added resources. All burnable resources can get wet due to rain events or when those were found in the ocean. Of course, damp resources dry up fast in the sun or in a windy environment.

Building and Crafting
•   Blueprints - Craft and build in 3 simple steps:
- Place the blueprint of your desired object
- Insert the required resources you see in the placed blueprint
- Finalize your project - Some building projects require a certain amount of hits with a finishing tool

Sailing
•   Realistic sailing mechanic - Traveling by raft is an act of art! You will need wind, an intact sail, a rudder - and knowledge.
•   Sail - Gets the raft moving. How high up sails are hoisted and how they are oriented compared to wind direction all takes into account how the wind force eventually affects your rafts moving capabilities. In heavy storms you want to take your sails in or those will be torn apart or blown away. With many different sail types available also different sailing behaviour is to be expected.
•   Rudder - Steer your raft in an old fashioned way

Raft
•   Modular rafts - Rafts can be modified and dismantled any time. Their components can be reused then again to build a better, faster, heavier water vehicle
•   Building on rafts - Build your own shelters on rafts or convert a plain raft to a houseboat (used also by native people or indians at those times). When traveling long distances it is essential to have a shelter on the raft to protect the player from direct sun, rain, wind, ...

Custom
•   Realistic sun, moon and celestial bodies movement based on latitude and the season - Can you spot a total eclipse of the Sun or Moon? (Achievement)
•   Different difficulty levels: easy, normal, hard (realistic)
•   Different time flow constants (how much real time is 1 day ingame): 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and - for hardcore players - 4 hours
•   Complex player statistics and experience system - Every value is dynamically developing over time to level up after all. Choose which statistic you want to spend level up points for.
•   Tiredness and 'need for sleep'

What is planned for implementation:
• Sextant - Used for navigating between island clusters or for finding interesting spots on the world map. For global map making
• Story driven or sandbox survival
• Material aging
• Building repair
• Building degradation by weather
• Different island biomes: rocky, mixed, “green”, maybe forest
• Fauna and flora dependant on actual latitude
• Realistic tides based on moon movement
• Tsunamis, typhoons and wide variety of atmospheric and oceanographic weather elements
• Illnesses and craftable cure system
• Achievement system
• Refined UI
• 2 player coop mode
• Third-Person game mode
• VR support

Alpha 13 - Sound Track, Dynamic sounds, Buildings
18 May - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 13' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on the Building functionality - especially the Ramp and the Roof/Floor. We have added the first version of the Sound track system and some of the environment sounds were reworked for more dynamic functionality. Furthermore we were also able to fix many issues.

The most notable new feature is the basic version of the SoundTrack system we added. And to increase the immersion we have added a simple night life sound with its volume dynamically changing based on Suns height in the sky (when the Sun goes down below the horizon) and when the player is in the vegetation zone. Volume of palm fronds and ocean sound are dynamically changing based on the actual wind speed and on the players distance to the actual shoreline.

We have fixed many issues in the building system and added some yet missing - but useful - features. The most reported issues were regarding the Ramp which is now climbable (no need to jump anymore). Its placement system was improved a little and trying to attach it to other objects doesn't make the green ghost ramp super wide. Another important change is that the Side-Beam frames no longer require 3 Simple pillar-s under them when the neighbouring Side-Beam frame has 2 Simple pillar-s under it. This makes it possible to build 4x4 sized roofs without the need of middle supporting pillars in the center of the room. The old functionality allowed to build only 2x2 sized rooms without a supporting pillar in its center.

Alpha 14 - Turtles, Animal AI, UI improvements

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 14' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on Animal AI. There is a new animal debuting. Some UI elements were refined and we were also able to fix some issues too.

The Animal AI has gotten some new features: Crabs aren't traveling on their sides and when they "see" the player approaching from the front they try to escape. This feature provides an interesting experience, now that crabs are easier to catch from behind. The turning mechanic has been also upgraded a little so it is less possible that they walk in place and try to push some heavy object behind them - they rather turn over and walk away. The next interesting feature of the AI is that the crabs are wandering based on the Suns altitude - on the mornings and evenings they are walking more away from the water and near noon they are staying mostly in the water.

We have added a new animal - the Loggerhead turtle. Those make use of the same AI the crabs use but they will learn how to swim, how to eat underwater weeds. There will be implementations for useful turtle parts continually (shell for catching water, teeth for various tools, ...).

We have added an animated progresbar to the startup screen with game logo and also the Help screen texts were checked and corrected for errors.

We have fixed a very serious issue when the player was in swimming mode standing on his raft after loading the game. The issue with chopped down palm trees which were missing their parts/trunks after loading was also solved.

Changelog:

Animals:

01. Added: Animals (Crabs and so on) are now correctly following the terrain relief and aren't travelling on their sides
02. Added: Loggerhead turtle
03. Added: Turtle basic movement
04. Added: Crabs don't try to push objects and rather turn over and walk away
05. Added: Sun altitude influences crabs wandering
06. Added: When Crabs see the player approaching from the front they try to escape

General:

01. Added: Animated LogoScreen ProgressBar
02. Fixed: Checked english Help screen texts
03. Added: Multilanguage support for the Help Screen
04. Added: Spanish Help screen texts
05. Added: German Help screen texts
06. Added: Chopped palm trees don't lose their parts/trunks after loading
07. Tweak: "Force Single Instance" option turned off
08. Fixed: The first chopped trunk from a very tall palm is correctly saved
09. Fixed: The player character is no more locked in swim mode when standing on the raft after loading

We will continue with general rechecking of all of the game features and will fix issues as they appear. The sailing system will also need some tweaking and tuning. We plan to work on further improving the Crabs AI and make the Turtles AI capable of swimming.

There will also be some new gameplay elements, models and functionality added as fixing the remaining issues will allow us, which we'll take care of based on their severity.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 15 - Turtle Shells, Meat, Water Collector
Escape The Pacific - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 15' is now available.

With this update we are beginning to add some new content to make the game more enjoyable. There is a new Water Collector and dead turtles give Turtle Shells and Meat. The turtles' AI has also been upgraded a little. Some issues were also fixed and a couple of functionalities were improved.

The first object of the many which will be added continually is the Water Collector. Next to Coconut Pots it cab be used to catch rain water. It is possible to drink directly from it or to fill empty Coconut Pots. The Water Collector handles the same Wet functionality as other 'wetable' objects - it can dry up on direct Sun on hot days. To be able to collect the rain it must be ensured that it is not built under some roofs or palms fronds.

Turtles found their first real usage: They are providing the needed Turtle Shell for the Water Collector and they are also providing some Meat to allow the players to diversify his eating habit. The turtles are now hiding in their shells when the player hits them.

The usage of campfire is much easier now. We have optimized some functionality and some colliders to ensure the player gets focus on those parts of the Campfire while aiming at it. We have also fixed some Campfire issues to make it more reliable.

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Turtle Shell ingredient
02. Added: Meat ingredient
03. Added: Destroying a dead Turtle gives Turtle Shell and Meat
04. Added: Water Collector object

Turtle:

01. Added: Turtle hides itself in Shell when hit
02. Added: Hiding Turtle energy drops slower when hit

General:

01. Added: Aiming at all Cookable objects in CookPlaces displays correct cooking state
02. Added: Aiming with rock, stick, kindling and fire saw maps to CampFire in case of a CookPlace (easier aiming at campfire)
03. Fixed: All CampFire colliders are mapped to the CampFire itself (easier aiming at campfire)
04. Fixed: ActionBar shows "Put" shortcut for Stick Small in case of CampFire in focus
05. Fixed: Cooked meal is correctly displayed in CookPlaces after save/load
06. Fixed: Edible objects have their Hunger status dislayed in Inventory after switching selection from a non-tool/-drinkable object
07. Fixed: Sea_Shell_1 ("Scallop shell") isn't mapped to fake oyster after save/load
08. Added: The duration of the 'White Screen' at game startup was lowered and thanks to that the Alpha Screen is shown earlier
09. Fixed: Floor collider adjusted to not prevent player getting over the last step on the ramp to the upper floor
10. Changed: The new cooktimes (ingame minutes): Oyster 10, Crab 20, Meat 30
11. Changed: Cookplace position (in CampFire) updated to prevent Oysters from clipping into the rocks

We will continue with general rechecking of all of the game features and will fix issues as they appear. The sailing system will also need some tweaking and tuning. We plan to add another possible processing of meat and also a new animal feature. We plan to work on further improving the Crabs AI and make the Turtles AI capable to swim as well as fixing the remaining issues will allow us which will be fixed based on their severity.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 16 - Eggs, Nests Drying Racks
Escape The Pacific - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 16' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding some new gameplay elements. There is a new Drying Rack and Sea Gulls have nests. We have managed to fix some more or less annoying issues as well.

The next addition to the list of craftable equipment is the Drying Rack. Conserve up to 9 different supplies or fruits at the same time. The Rack is using the same wet/dry mechanics as the other ingame elements. Drying works faster on sunny and windy days unlike at night. Protect the Rack from rain or build it directly under some roof or palms fronds.

Seagulls are now moving in on nesting rocks also. They tend to sit down on their rock for the night and leave in the morning. There are also some nests with randomly appearing eggs each day. The gulls have been given some basic AI as well which will be expanded further; for example they will be able to attack the player if he wants to steal their eggs. Seagull positions are not included in savegames at the moment but will be added with the next update.

Turtles AI was updated a little too - they are now wandering on the beach the way the Crabs do - based on the Suns altitude. Furthermore they don't hide in their shells anymore - like real sea turtles.

Some major issues were also fixed: Axe tools won't get stretched because of intense usage anymore and 'wetable' objects don't get dry or wet when they are placed in inventory. The "paddling without legs" and "lying on the canoe" issues were also finally solved.

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Seagull Egg
02. Added: Seagull nesting place
03. Added: Seagulls land in evening and fly in the morning
04. Added: Seagulls leave eggs randomly in their nests
05. Added: Seagulls are "following" the player as he is travelling between islands
06. Added: Seagulls can be scared when they are on land
07. Added: Drying Rack

General:

01. Fixed: Axe tools will not get deformed anymore due to intense usage
02. Fixed: Dry sticks in inventory won't be wet after save/load
03. Changed: Turtles don't hide in their Shells when Hit (for realistic reasons)
04. Added: Turtles now wander on the beach based on the Suns position like Crabs do
05. Fixed: "Paddling without legs" issue
06. Fixed: "Lying on the canoe" issue
07. Changed: Water Collector moved to Equipment category
08. Fixed: Campfire blueprint correctly accepts Fire Sticks and doesn't turn them into Small Sticks
09. Fixed: Drinking water from the Water Collector correctly reduces thirst
10. Fixed: Distance Islands sometimes having bad/weird ground textures when travelling between the islands
11. Fixed: Shore Big Rocks are placed correctly on distance Islands

We will continue with general rechecking of all of the game features and will fix issues as they appear. As there are already three interactable animals for now we plan to work more on their AI to make their behaviour more interesting and challenging. There will also be some new gameplay elements, models and functionality added as fixing the remaining issues will allows us, which we'll take care of based on their severity.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 17 - Attack of the Seagulls feat. Young Turtles Wet Greenery
Escape The Pacific - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 17' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on animal AI and to bring again more content into the game. Seagulls are now protecting their eggs and vegetation gets wet in the rain. We have managed to fix more issues also.

The most noticeable AI update for Seagulls has been implemented - They aren't flying off in the morning when they have eggs in their nests. Player getting close will scare them off and the player can take their eggs. In such a case Seagulls begin to attack the player for some time. In the future implementation it will be possible to hit the closing up Seagull and kill it.

Seagull eggs are now cook-able and dead Crabs give meat which can then be dried on the Drying Rack. The Seagulls' positions aren't saved at the moment which will be added in the next update.

Turtles have now gotten younger brothers. Those are giving less meat and a smaller shell. There will be some interesting features added in future updates regarding turtle eggs. One nice added graphic feature is wet vegetation. Vegetation gets wet when it is raining and when the rain stops it will slowly dry up.

Besides those new features we have fixed some incorrect player animations and ocean wind speed is set correctly after game start. The Water collector blueprint allows to be placed when attempting to place first time now (and doesn't stay in red state forever). 'Wetable' objects don't get dry or wet when they are placed in Crates and Eggs and Bananas details are now correctly displayed in inventory.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Seagull Eggs are cook-able but not dry-able
02. Added: Seagulls don't fly up in the morning if there are Eggs in the nest
03. Added: Seagulls sit on eggs, get scared by the player and are returning to nests
04. Added: Seagulls are attacking the player when he is stealing eggs
05. Added: vegetation gets wet in rain and slowly dries up afterwards
06. Added: Loggerhead Turtle Young
07. Added: Dead Crab gives meat when hit

General:

01. Fixed: Ocean Wind speed is set correctly after the game is started
02. Fixed: Player now doesn't hold his left hand as when paddling when on land after game is loaded (when the player was paddling previously)

Alpha 18 - Player vs. Seagulls Salmon vs. Fish Traps

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 18' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on Seagulls so now their AI is improved and you can hit them. There is a new Fish Trap and Salmon fish is also new. We have managed to fix some issues too.

Attacking Seagulls are easier to avoid from now on - jump to the side in the last second or go swimming to avoid attacks. Seagulls aren't so aggressive and don't attack always anymore - they are making "attack decisions" in only 75% of the time. Seagulls aren't attacking when they are far away from the nest when the player is stealing the eggs. The most important addition is the possibility to hit attacking Seagulls and to be able to kill them. They are providing Meat only as of yet - in the future they will also provide some feathers. Seagulls' world must be changed - from 'one Seagull Flock at a time' mode to 'every island has its own Seagull Flocks' mode. This will allow us to create big rocky Seagull Colony islands also :-D Due to this we are pushing back saving Seagull positions to not implement the same thing twice.

Seafood lovers' wishes were fulfilled: the Fish trap is finally here! The whole trap must be placed under sea level - make sure to place it carefully because of sea level increasing/lowering during the tides! It is advised to keep greater distances to not scare fish off from getting into the trap! Fish can be eaten raw or can be cooked or dried too.

We have added support for reassigning keys to Mouse Thumb buttons 2-7. The UI system and font in the ActionBar was replaced to correctly display also the non-latin characters. The texts in the Russian language are displayed correctly now. Only Raw meal can be cooked or dried from now on.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Salmon fish object
02. Added: Fish Trap
03. Added: Seagull object
04. Added: Seagulls can be killed when attacking
05. Added: Seagulls sit down to their nests when there is an egg after game start/load
06. Added: Mouse Thumb buttons can be re-assigned

General:

01. Changed: UI system and font in the ActionBar replaced
02. Fixed: Meat in inventory is correctly grouped based on their cooked state
03. Fixed: Eggs in inventory are correctly grouped based on their cooked state
04. Changed: Seagulls aren't always attacking
05. Changed: Seagulls aren't attacking when far away when the player steals the eggs
06. Changed: It is easier to avoid Seagull attacks
07. Added: Only Raw Meal can be cooked or dried

As there were many new features (Water Collector, Drying Rack, Animated Crabs and Turtles, Fish Trap, Nesting Seagulls, ...) added in relatively short time we plan to work on solving the issues with higher priority - we will add less new content and instead plan to fix as much issues as we can. The issues will be fixed in order based on community requests and on their severity.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 19 - Tools, Map Islands Improvements
Escape The Pacific - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 19' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on improving gameplay and fixing the most common issues.

One of the long awaited features we implemented is the possibility to rotate crafting tool blueprints before placement. Also their behaviour was improved: Tool blueprints do not collide with or push other items in the way and instead change their color to indicate placing is not possible. "Storage" items such as the BackPack, SideBag and the Crate now have woven palm sides when completed.

Another important gameplay change was made to the map system. It is not needed anymore to mark the Starting Island from the second conquered island to unlock the triangulation system. The "old" functionality was causing some confusion when players were on the second island but not able to mark another islands until starting island has been marked. Another confusing gameplay element which was removed was the functionality which automatically marked the not surfaced and not visible islands as the starting island.

The first issues we fixed were issues with the inventory: items in crates aren't duplicated after save/load, Salmon fish information is correctly displayed and the icons of Cookable items in the inventory are correctly set based on their cook state after save/load.

Some issues with the Experience system were also solved: Survived days and Experience points are correctly set after starting a new game. It is important to mention, that the "Survived Days" are the number of real days (day/night cycles) survived - not the days the weather system skips over (based on selected "Day Forward" custom game parameter).

Changelog:

Gameplay:

01. Added: Rotating crafting tool Blueprint before placement
02. Added: Rotate key hints to Actionbar when holding a crafting tool Bueprint
03. Added: Primitive Axe has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
04. Added: Primitive Hammer has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
05. Added: Primitive Knife has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
06. Added: BackPack has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
07. Added: Finalized Backpack has woven sides
08. Added: SideBag has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
09. Added: Finalized SideBag has woven sides
10. Added: ToolBelt has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
11. Added: Crate has woven sides
12. Added: Crate has now Touch/Collision Detect Blueprint
13. Changed: Crate has actualized Inventory Icon
14. Changed: It is no more needed to "mark" the starting island from the second "conquered" island to unlock the triangulation system

General:

01. Fixed: Stored items in Crates aren't duplicated after save/load
02. Fixed: Salmon in inventory is correctly identified and detail information is correctly displayed
03. Fixed: Salmon is not glowing at night
04. Fixed: Survived Days counter is correctly cleared when New game is started
05. Fixed: Experience Points are correctly initialized when New game is started
06. Fixed: Inventory Icons for Cookable items are set correctly after save/load
07. Fixed: ActionBar does not remain on screen when ingame Menu is opened
08. Added: Opening the Pause Menu inGame while placing a crafting blueprint correctly cancels the crafting/placing process - solves messed up interaction afterwards in new/continued game
09. Added: Opening the Pause Menu inGame while placing a building blueprint correctly cancels the bulding/placing process - solves messed up interaction afterwards in new/continued game
10. Fixed: Crates won't be stretched when equipped/dropped multiple times
11. Fixed: BackPack has correct blueprint colors (also the belts)
12. Fixed: SideBag has correct blueprint colors (also the belts)
13. Fixed: ToolBelt has correct blueprint colors
14. Fixed: The ActionBar is turned off correctly when the game character dies
15. Fixed: The map system doesn't automatically mark a non-surfaced (non-visible from distance) underwater island as starting island
16. Fixed: It is not possible to open the Map while swimming

We would like to announce here that this update was the last of our "regular" updates before summer vacation time comes up. More information about our Summer Schedule will be provided in a separate announcement next week. Hi everyone,

the summer is finally here and in this short announcement we would like to inform you about our summer schedule.

We are leaving to vacation with our families and in between we are also going to work in our full time jobs which means stress in general so we can't guarantee there will be regular updates during summer time.

We plan to release a game update around July 20th-26th. In August we plan to release a game update around 10th - 17th. From August 31st we plan to resume our normal schedule and will return to release an update every friday. A little later we will extend our release schedule to 2 weeks to allow us to dedicate development time to more complex - and very interesting - features.

With the help of our community we together have done a big amount of work and laid down a very good foundation to further improve our game to all our liking.

Thank you all for all of the feedback, ideas and suggestions and for the patience during solving issues!

We wish you a very nice summer and hope to continue together with our work relaxed and well rested.

Best regards,

Gamers4Gamers Team.

Alpha 20 - Cut the Bush, Build Module Optimization Coralfix
Escape The Pacific - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 20' is now available.

For this small update before summer we were mainly focusing on improving gameplay and fixing some common issues. It is now possible to cut the bushes, corals have gotten some fixes and the build modules were optimized.

The most noticeable issue that was fixed is the "missing reef" issue sometimes occurring after a new game was started. Another issue which was solved is when the player saved/reloaded the game on some far remote island sometimes causing the player falling through floor/to underground.

We began with optimizations on the game startup sequence and its first visible result is that the clouds' reflection in the water are updated much sooner, just after the game is loaded and not some seconds afterwards. We will continue to work on these startup issues some more time.

We managed to complete the first stage of optimization of all of the building modules and blueprints. The results are promising: With some huge buildings (~700 build modules) the FPS increased up to ~40%.

Probably the most interesting new feature in this update is the possibility to cut bushes to clear up some space when the player needs to. Use an Axe and hit the bushes' stems close above the ground to make it disappear. Later this bush cutting functionality will be expanded a little more.

Changelog:

New feature:

01. Added: Possibility to cut bushes to free up some space

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Clouds' reflection in the water are correctly done just after the game is loaded
02. Fixed: Corrected coral/reef initialization to avoid sometimes not showing them up after game load
03. Fixed: Correct player position acquiring to avoid the situation when corals/reefs are shown in wrong positions
04. Fixed: Player not falling through floor/to underground when being on some far remote islands after save/load
05. Changed: Removed unnecessary components and functionality from the build modules
06. Changed: Optimized build module initialization and data usage

That is all what we planned to release in this small update. During the summer we plan to continue on solving the issues with higher priority - we will add less new content and instead we plan to fix as much issues as we can. The issues will be fixed in order based on community requests and on their severity.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 34' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding additional usages for Banana trees - there are new Banana Building modules, Banana Raft module and a Banana Canoe. Dead Grass can be used as Kindling and the Fire Stick can be used as a simple Torch. Campfires have gotten an updated look too. A couple of gameplay improvements were added and some issues were fixed too.

The new Banana Foundation Pillars, Banana Pillar, Banana Side-Beam Frame make survival on Banana islands easier while the new Banana Raft module and the Banana Canoe makes it possible to leave the island sooner. Papaya trees can now be chopped down to free up space on Papaya islands.

The new harvestable Dead Grass can be used as a kindling for Campfires - however it is a little harder to ignite than the kindling made from Coconut Fiber.

Alpha 36 - Salt & Vitamin C, Ground Sleeping, Coconut Fiber Torch

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 36' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on fixing issues but we managed to add a new Salt and Vitamin C system too. The expanded sleep system allows to Sleep on the Ground and there is also a new Coconut Fiber Torch.

The new Salt and Vitamin C systems bring another bit of realism into the game. Salt can be found in Collectible bottles or can be distilled using Salt Water and some Water Holder object. The water evaporates quicker in the Sun but beware of the rain. It is needed to eat salted meal to keep the body's salt level high otherwise the player characters health will begin to drop and eventually leads to death. Vitamin C can be found in some of the Fruits - more in Raw form fruits and less when fruits are dried or cooked. A high vitamin C level will ensure better protection from getting Cold and ill.

The sleep mechanic has been expanded to allow sleeping on the ground: on sand or grass. It is not as comfortable as sleeping on a Bed but can help out in difficult situations - or just to let time pass by.

Coconut Fiber Torches makes it easier to light up the nights when there aren't spare bandages around to use.

Alpha 37 - Sit & Wait, Paddle mechanic, Coconut Pot Candle, Building Modules
7 Jun @ 9:47pm - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 37' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding a Sit & Wait mechanic and a new Paddle system. There is a new Coconut Pot Candle and a couple of new Building Modules. Gameplay improvements were also added and some issues fixed.

The new Sit mechanic offers 3 features: 1) Slowly decreases tiredness in the morning hours and slows down increasing tiredness in the afternoon and in the evening, 2) Speeds up Stamina recovery, 3) Makes it possible to speed up the time and Wait for some certain events (drying up wood, finished meal cooking, ...) or simply enjoy watching the Sun set over the ocean ...

The Paddle system requires to have a custom paddle held in hand before entering a Canoe. Paddle material quality is degrading over time and by using the paddle. There is one paddle available for crafting at the moment, others with different properties will follow later.

The Coconut Pot Candle makes another good use for spare Coconut Pots. It is more resistant to wind than the regular Candles are. Coconut Pots with Salt water can also be put onto Campfire cooking places to speed up evaporation and to get salt sooner.

There are some new Roof Building Modules which make the building process more interesting. The new 100% waterproof Coconut Palm Build Modules allow to have dry places inside even during the most intense rain. Smaller objects are now outlined when aiming to locate them easier, mainly when they are buried in sand or hidden in high grass.

Hi everyone,

the summer is finally here and in this short announcement we would like to inform you about our summer schedule.

We are leaving to vacation with our families and in between we are also going to work in our full time jobs which means stress in general so we can't guarantee there will be regular updates during summer time.

The last regular pre-summer release will be on June 28th. Later we plan to release a game update around July 26th. In August we plan to release the next game update around 30th. From September we plan to resume our normal schedule and will return to release an update every 3rd Friday.

The new Roof modules complete the already added list of roof modules and allow to build complete buildings now. Narrow Ramps leave more free space around and the Wind indicator on the Half Pillar can get very useful on rafts (as community-requested). The hand-held Wind indicator can be stuck into the ground.

To Sit & Wait is now also possible on Rafts and may shorten long journeys (of course when the wind direction is not changing much :steamhappy: ).

Changelog:

02. Added: Narrow Ramp
03. Added: Wind indicator on Half Pillar
04. Added: Sit & Wait on Raft modules

Hi everyone,

The new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 39' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the Banana Roof building modules and the Auto paddle feature. There are some gameplay improvements and a couple of the issues were fixed too.

The new Banana Roof modules allow to build complete buildings now also on islands with high Banana trees density. The recently added Palm Roof modules now have slightly updated models.

The Auto paddle feature makes long paddling journeys less demanding. Auto paddling is started automatically after paddling for a couple of seconds and can be turned off manually at any time or automatically in shallow water.

Changelog:

New Features:
01. Added: Banana Roof modules
02. Added: Auto Paddle feature

General:

01. Added: Outline for some more small objects
02. Changed: Updated models for Palm Roof Modules
03. Changed: Evaporation rate was lowered to 36/72 hours for Water Holders (Coconuts) and Water Collector

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Maximum protection buildings recognized as level 3 rain protection
02. Fixed: Not adding water to Water holder objects when the player had just enough or less water than needed for recipe
03. Fixed: Salt spawned when the player emptied Salt Water
04. Fixed: Missing Actionbar/inventory icon for Salt Water Cooked
05. Fixed: Salt Water not turning to Salt when water evaporated
06. Fixed: Water not evaporating from freshly cut coconuts

During the Summer Holidays we will aim to work on expanding and balancing the existing game mechanics. Some of the longer present issues are already in fixing stage. Alpha 40 - Nests & Eggs 4 Turtles, No-Nest Gull Rocks, Crouching, Paddle Wearing, Achievements
30 Aug @ 10:58pm - Gamers4Gamers Team

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 40' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the Turtle Nests & Eggs and Crouch features. There is a Wearing out Paddle model and a No-Nest Seagull Rock added too. A new Hint notification system and a basic Achievement system is also introduced. There are some gameplay improvements and a couple of the issues were fixed too.

The Turtle Nests & Eggs feature increases the variety of the daily food gathering routine.

Turtle Eggs are covered in Turtle Nests which can be found shore-side.

To balance the amount of Turtle Eggs they are less nutritious and they are spoiling faster. Another balancing feature is the No-Nest Seagull Rock so not every island provides the possibility to get Seagull Eggs. Later in development the full Turtle life cycle will be introduced.

The Crouching pose is giving the possibility to grab/pick up items from hard-to-reach places and the new Paddle model gives an interesting visual indication of its worn out state.

The Achievement engine now supports only Steam Achievements but the functionality will be expanded to also offer "ingame" achievements which will be erased with each new game started. The actual Achievements list contains some basic survival/craft/hunt achievements only for now, so the list will widely grow as more content is added to the game.

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Turtle Nest
02. Added: Turtle Egg
03. Added: Cook recipes for Turtle Egg
04. Added: No-Nest Seagull Rock
05. Added: Crouching
06. Added: Notification about Hints not stopping game
07. Added: Achievement System

General:

01. Added: Configurable Crouch Key
02. Added: Stick paddle losing sticks from it when used
03. Added: Show Hint about aimed item functionality
04. Added: Shown Hint can be closed with Journal key
05. Added: Load Game screen displays the actual Screenshot from the savegame
06. Changed: Water Collector objects filling up faster when placed under water

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Journal key binding saved incorrectly (messed up the Toolbelt key binding)
02. Fixed: Hint status sometimes saved incorrectly (caused overwriting Hints when new Hints were introduced)
03. Fixed: Coconut Pots clipping into Cooking stones when placed on them

We plan to work some more on the newly introduced Achievement system. The additional plans include also the Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Door, Window, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Game Controller, Tutorial System, Simple Quests ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 41 - Local achievements, Rocky Seagull Islands, Mist during rain
Sat, 21 September 2019

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 41' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the Local Achievements screen and on introducing some new achievements too. The new Rocky Seagull island is expanding island variety and Mist during rain is a game changer. There are some gameplay improvements and a couple of the issues were fixed too.

The Local Achievements screen does not only offer the possibility to check the progression of Achievements but also resets with each new game started. Here as a player you have the chance to get to experience your favourite goals in different game scenario settings again. For the list of Achievements we have added the new types "Travel" and "Survival". As we make progress also new challenges will be added to this list.

Seagulls have finally gotten their own island type. Hereby we expand the list of island types by adding the type Rocky Seagull Island. On this kind of islands it is easier to steal Seagull eggs and collect feathers, but beware of resident Seagulls home on as much as up to 7 nesting rocks also being able to attack in high numbers!

It could turn out difficult when travelling the sea and during heavy rain or storms mist turns up. Have Compass and map at hand because in such a situation blindly paddling or sailing further can quickly turn out as a bad decision...

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Local Achievements Screen to Journal Page
02. Added: Rocky Seagull Island
03. Added: Mist during Rain

General:

01. Added: Torch reacts to Wind effects
02. Added: New Rock models
03. Added: Notification information in NotifyBar when unlocking Achievements
04. Added: Travel type Achievements: Walk/Run, Swim, Dive, Paddle, Sail
05. Added: Survival type Achievements: Sleep, Triangulation, Craft, Build
06. Added: Some percentage of Turtle Eggs get destroyed when picking up from the Turtle Nests
07. Added: Bottles can now keep fluids fresh and unspoiled for 20% longer
08. Added: Barrels can now keep fluids fresh and unspoiled for 50% longer

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Achievement not unlocking for Igniting Campfire
02. Fixed: Turtle Eggs rolling around freely
03. Fixed: Savegame Screenshots are blurry
04. Fixed: Seagull Eggs and Turtle Eggs were different incorrectly
05. Fixed: Hitting a Seagull with an Axe or Hammer does not kill it
06. Fixed: Killing a Seagull with an Arrow does not trigger Achievements
07. Fixed: Killing a Seagull with an Axe or Hammer does not trigger Achievements
08. Fixed: Items created/gathered on remote islands disappearing after 2x Save/Load
09. Fixed: Hitting Coconut Pot with an Axe does not destroys it
10. Fixed: Canoe and Raft blueprints automatically complete after Save/Load
11. Fixed: Player not getting wet when standing in Light Rain

Besides on working on the below listed features we re-checked global map functionality and will work on re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again. Also we have found a solution for the Dragging system which will be applied and adjusted with future updates. The additional plans include also Fruit ripening, Fruit regrowing, Door, Window, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Game Controller, Tutorial System, Simple Quests ... We will work also on solving new issues and on re-checking some older issues. Other new features will be added as implementing planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Alpha 42 - Lagoon Island, Campfire on Floor, Candle Lantern
Fri, 11 October 2019

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 42' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding a new type of islands: Lagoon Island. Campfires on Floor are finally here and a new Candle Lantern was also added. Lots of preparation work was done in the background and a couple of issues were fixed too.

The new Lagoon type Islands are a nice and interesting addition to the existing list of the island types. Later in the game they'll get special meanings and it will also be possible to find some rare stuff only on those islands.

The long awaited Campfire on Floor and on Raft floors is finally here. Its recipe also requires a newly introduced craft ingredient: Sand, which can be collected on the beach with Coconut Pots, Goblets and Tankards.. Maximum new campfire size is medium and cooking rocks cannot be removed.

Candle Lanterns make the traveling at night with wind and rain easier as weather effects won't affect those lanterns. Torches from now on will be extinguished in the rain.

The base functionality for a simple In-Game Tutorial system has been laid down and the first couple of tutorials will be available soon. The mechanic allowing to attach some objects to other objects could almost be completed to make it possible to attach Windows, Doors or other objects to building modules or attach Barrels, Crates and Boxes to Rafts.

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Lagoon type Island
02. Added: Candle Lantern
03. Added: CampFire on Floor
04. Added: CampFire on Raft
05: Added: Sand as new crafting ingredient

General:

01. Added: Torch reacts to Rain effects
02. Changed: Craft Blueprint positioned closer to ingame character

Fixed:

01. Fixed: Game halting when loading very old savegames - improved compatibility engine
02. Fixed: Birds not landing to roost in the evening on (mainly) remote islands
03. Fixed: Collectible Crate and Barrel 'hanging' in the air and not moving with the Raft after save/load
04. Fixed: Fire-saw blueprint collides with other objects

Besides on working on the above mentioned mechanics we will work more on re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again and on the Dragging system. Additional plans include also the Map UI, Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Door, Window, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Game Controller, Tutorial System, Simple Quests ... We will also work on solving new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 43 - Fasten Raft Boxes, Bench & Stool, Collectible Chest
Fri, 1 November 2019

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 43' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the mechanic to fasten Boxes to Rafts. The new Stool and Bench allows more comfortable resting. There is a new Chest for more valuable collectibles and a couple of issues were fixed too.

Fastening objects to Rafts allows you to make sure they won't fall off - even when approaching bigger waves. Boxes, chests and barrels only can be fastened and to do so you'll need a Strong Rope which can be crafted from a couple of Small Ropes.

Stool and Bench are helpful when looking forward to rest during hard work or to simply wait for some event. The mechanic is identical to sitting on the ground: Tiredness in the morning hours slowly decreases, increasing tiredness in the afternoon and in the evening will be slown down and Stamina recovery is sped up. The only difference is that the Stool decreases the tiredness faster than the Bench and the Bench faster than the ground.

On some shores of random islands you might find the new chests holding more valuable collectibles. More special items will be added in future updates and those can be found in these new Chests only.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Fasten Boxes to Raft
02. Added: Stool model and recipe
03. Added: Bench model and recipe
04. Added: Strong Rope model and recipe
05. Added: Chest collectible

General:

01. Added: Functionality for displaying Hint Screens with Image
02. Added: Custom Tiredness recovery curve for Stool
03. Added: Custom Tiredness recovery curve for Bench
04. Added: Key shortcut hints for Map in ActionBar

Fixes:

01. Added: Additional logging to help tracking down some issues
02. Fixed: Crashing when saving Tree/Bush/Foliage after hitting but not cut down
03. Fixed: Sometimes shown white rectangle in ActionBar instead of icon of the object in focus
04. Fixed: Campfire on Raft base sometimes not correctly attached
05. Fixed: Objects of far remote islands disappear after save/load when player was on another island
06. Fixed: Sometimes Collectible crates were not at the exact position as before save/load
07. Fixed: Impossible to add Kindling to Campfire when there is evidently no Kindling in it
08. Fixed: Impossible to ignite Campfire when there is evidently Kindling in it
09. Fixed: Cooked objects on cooking stones that were removed re-appearing after save/load
10. Fixed: Mixing up liquid type in all Coconut pots when multiple separate coconut pots with different liquids are cooked at the same time on the same Campfire
11. Fixed: Unresponsive Equip/Pick up commands after Map was opened while holding an object in hand while with no free space in Inventory left to stash held item

We plan to work some more on making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts but re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again and the Dragging system will still be our top priority. The additional plans include also the Map UI, Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Door, Window, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Game Controller, Simple Quests ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 44 - Doors & Windows, Dragging system, Bucket
Fri, 22 November 2019

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 44' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the mechanic for Doors and Windows. The object Dragging system was upgraded and a new collectible Bucket was also added. A couple of the issues were fixed too.

The Door & Window mechanic finally allows to completely seal off buildings against all of the weather elements. They can be attached/detached to Door and Window wall modules in a way similar to the raft building mechanic. Orientation of Doors and Windows can be changed any time holding a Hammer in hands after they were attached. This wall attach mechanic will be used for some other craftable objects which will be introduced in the next updates.

The object dragging system has been finally upgraded to work correctly while interacting with floatable objects. Simple objects are pushed by dragged objects but floatable objects aren't affected until they are dragged directly. Dragged objects won't be slowed down when they get in contact with other objects.

The new collectible Bucket makes transferring liquids easier and collects much more rain than other collectors.

Alpha 45 - Controller support & Tutorials
Sat, 14 December 2019

Hi everyone,

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding Controller support and a basic system for Tutorials too. There are a couple of small features we added and a couple of issues were fixed too.

Controller support is now finally available and its engine is compatible with the majority of available game controllers out there. As this is the first implementation for Controller support we are putting fixing possible incompatibility altogether with completing some of the minor UI issues onto our to-do list.

The Tutorial system is currently offering simple Tutorials to help get familiarized with some of the basic mechanics of the game. More detailed and specialized tutorials will be added continually. Along with that we have added an additional Tutorials screen to the Journal from where Tutorials can be started, stopped, restarted or continued for any of the tutorials available. And in Options menu there is also a switch for displaying Tutorials or not.

As we received lots of responses from our gamers being confused about special game variables meaning in "Custom Game" menu, we added new tooltip texts and information to this screen. Window panels were given a new (and more practical) top hinge position when attached and we have also added a Small Chest which may be serving a special purpose in future updates.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Controller support
02. Added: Tutorial system
03. Added: Tutorials screen in Journal
04. Added: New Small Chest object
05. Added: New Hint screens for Doors and Windows describing the Attach/Detach procedure
06. Added: New Tooltip texts and screens in Custom game screen describing DayForward and TimeFlow game parameters

General:

01. Added: Top hinged position for Window panels
02. Added: Random Placement position for Collectible objects on shore
03. Changed: Raft rotation stopping faster
04. Added: Optimization procedures in preparation for bigger islands

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Game load sometimes freezing up when loading very old savegames
02. Fixed: Attached objects to Raft objects losing attached state after save/load
03. Fixed: Objects placed on raft sometimes very jumpy
04. Fixed: Small Barrel sometimes not correctly sitting on raft when attached
05. Fixed: Collider for Trunk Raft Module sometimes not working
06. Fixed: Attached object to Raft side modules not correctly attached
07. Fixed: Objects being incorrectly attached to raft base modules after 2x save/load
08. Fixed: Raft rocketing up after attaching Pillars or Rudders to it
09. Fixed: Word Wid -> Wind in Scenarions Challenges screen
10. Fixed: Floating/Jumping player character when dragging blueprints of big objects
11. Fixed: Unable to look closely at Sailing Pillars and Rudders after save/load
12. Fixed: Sometimes not saved attached state for Doors/Windows attached to Door/Window Wall modules built on raft
13. Fixed: Raft jumping around after save/load when Railing was built on it
14. Fixed: Raft jumping around after save/load when Doors/Windows was attached to Door/Window Wall modules on it
15. Fixed: Not correctly saved detached state of Doors/Windows detached from Door/Window Wall modules

We plan to work some more on making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts but re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again will still be our top priority. Best wishes & Thank you!

Hi everyone,

we are heading towards the end of the year and before that we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting us throughout the year! Thank you for your ideas, suggestions and criticism helping us make Escape the Pacific a better game!

In 2019 we were mainly concentrated on adding basic mechanics and functionality. However we also ...
• expanded game content with many new models and introduced new island types,
• upgraded the game lighting system as much as the cloud system was replaced with a more realistic volumetric one,
• updated the cooking system and added new recipes
• and implemented the new-comer systems Vitamin C and Food diversity to provide a more challenging game experience.

As almost all of the basic features are already implemented (mainly, except of the 25 000 km2 open ocean with island clusters), we'll put our focus on adding more and more content for the next year, eg vegetation, island types, animals, quests, story elements ... and maybe the basics for multiplayer. Certainly we have some surprise elements planned too. With Escape the Pacific taking place in the mid 1800's there's a whole lot of possibilities to implement interesting and unique features. We hope that our community will continue to support us with new ideas, suggestions and with their positive energy - so, together, we get to improve the game and increase gaming experience. Some of your ideas we already received were truly inspiring and will find their way into the game sooner or later for sure.

Holidays are here and besides resting we plan to work on new features and on improving gameplay a little, working a bit less on the game than usual.

Our next build will be released in January 2020, until then:
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Do you like our game and want to help even more during development? We look forward to every positive review posted on our Steam page and thank everyone who decides to support us along the way!

Alpha 46 - Map & Compass, Boat Wrecks & Paddles, Wind effect, Objectives
Fri, 17 January 2020

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 46' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the mechanic for Collectible Map & Compass and there are new Boat Wrecks & Paddles on the shore too. The old lean-in Shelters with used objects and the player Wind effects make the game more interesting. More game changing elements were added and a couple of issues fixed too.

Map & Compass finally materialized! They are now like other collectible objects and without them equipped in the new special Navigation pockets it is not possible to do the Mapping! The compass and the map system will get a unique feature in future builds to make mapping more interesting.

As mentioned lately, the game will begin to continually get more and more content to make the gameplay more interesting and enjoyable. The first couple of gameplay elements from our huge list are here.

On some islands it is possible to find different Boat wrecks along with an optional Paddle which is of better quality and is durable for longer compared to the craftable version.

The Starting Island now does not have any man made objects, but some long forgotten survivor left a Stone Arrow sign on the shore indicating a nearby island where he placed his stash of objects.

Somebody has built some small A-type lean-in shelters on some of the islands with still usable objects around it.

The in-game character now feels the wind effects (slower walk/run speed into strong wind and vice versa) and you'll also hear exhausted Breathing and Heart beat sounds.

The basic mechanic for Objectives was also added. New Objectives (to help players with some of the game mechanics) and Quests (to motivate players for exploration) will be added continually. The Main Story elements will be added later.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Collectible Map object
02. Added: Collectible Compass object

03. Fixed: Incorrect Icon for First Craft Campfire Tutorial
04. Fixed: Game crash when loading some of the older savegames
05. Fixed: Button texts for Tutorial Screen in Journal not translated

While adding more and more content, making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts, re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again is still our top priority. The additional plans include also the Map UI, Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Simple Quests ... Alpha 47 - Ship Wrecks, Sharks, Primitive Shelters, Statues and more Islands
Fri, 21 February 2020

Hi everyone,

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding new content to the ocean: Ship Wrecks and Sharks. On the ground we have primitive Shelters and Native's Statues. Canoes are now affected by wind and there are some preparation works for future bigger and mixed islands also. There are more game changing elements added and a couple of the issues were fixed too.

Sunken Shipwrecks near islands' shores are just the first ones from the wide list of ships to be added in the future on the Pirates' side and on the Royal side too. Materials can be salvaged from those wrecks to be re-used in interesting new building and tool recipes. Ships will add some more interesting gameplay and story elements in future updates.

Our new White Sharks are the first ones to populate the waters and will make the game more interesting and challenging. They are behaving rather neutral now and can be seen swimming near ship wrecks. Sharks will get a more sophisticated behaviour and some special features as the time passes.

A new recipe was added to build a very simple and primitive A-type shelter which can be a big help in situations when the player needs some rest in a more or less protected environment while being very short on resources.

As natives once also occupied a couple of islands, one island served as a special/sacred place for them. Some statues can be found standing on the cluster islands' shores looking in the direction of the sacred island or looking to the opposite direction trying to force visitors to turn back and run for his life. The island with sacred place will get some special meanings and interesting features in future builds.

The island cluster was enlarged to have 20 islands at maximum. It will allow to add more diverse island types and there will also be more space to add some quest destinations/elements in the future. The amount of bigger island was increased too.

A new collectible Old Stick paddle with already degraded quality was also implemented including an old burnt down medium Campfire with collectibles around. The very old savegames aren't supported any more and the game won't hang-up trying to decode them. Seagulls are finally sleeping silently during the nights and a couple of Hint screens were added to help understand some of the games new features.

Hi everyone,

For this update we were mainly focusing on fixing existing issues, however we'll have a new collectible Old Iron Axe, an Old Wood Hammer and a new Shelter too. Some goods are spawning on Ritual places and some Crates on Ship wrecks too. Pocket slots now have their hotkeys, Player character temperature mechanic has been updated and there are more game changing elements added as well.

The new collectible Old Iron Axe and Old Wood Hammer are the first ones from the list of collectibles that are planned to be added in future updates. The Iron Axe offers stronger hits and the Wood Hammer allows to craft higher quality objects.

The Ritual stone spawns some more types of food now. New food is spawned every other day, but the player must leave the island at least to some other remote island without returning to the Ritual stone for 2 days. There are plans for some features to punish the very greedy players in the future. There are Crates on the Ship Wrecks which can be salvaged - the bigger the wreck the more crates are spawned.

To make the gameplay more user friendly, the Inventory Pockets slots are now accessible via Hotkeys (1-2) and due to that fact, the ToolBelt slots were renumbered to (3-7). The Player Real-Feel Temperature mechanic has been updated mainly to avoid freezing during nights with moderate temperatures and only mild wind blowing.

Alpha 49 - Grassy Island, new Build material & modules, Transport Canoe

Hi everyone,

besides still focusing on fixing existing issues we managed to add a new grass system, new rocks and bigger Grassy Island. The new Tall Grass can be used as material for the new Grass building modules tier. The Long Canoe allows transporting of boxes, chests and barrels attached to its back part. A couple of older game breaking issues were fixed too.

The finally arrived optimized new grass system (along with a new ground texturing mechanic) opened the path for introducing bigger islands. The first in the list is the new bigger (to this time the biggest) Grassy island which features also the new Grass and new Rock models.

The new Tall Grass can mainly be found on this island type which can be used as a building material for a brand new sort of building modules.

The Grassy island offers slightly limited building methods because only small bushes are available and the only way to get away from this island is to build a canoe or small raft from driftwood.

The new Long Canoe allows to transport boxes, chests and barrels attached to its back part. It moves slower than the simple Canoe but can be a big help when it is needed to transport objects against the wind over shorter distances.

Among a couple of minor ones also two major issues were fixed: Attached crates, chests, boxes and barrels aren't automatically detaching during longer journeys between the islands; Seagulls sitting on the Nest rocks don't fall/clip into rocks after being shot down.

Alpha 50 - Sailing UI, Fruit Ripening & Regrow System, Old Knife

Hi everyone,

for this update we were mainly focusing on adding the Fruit Ripening & Regrow system with a couple of fruit ripe stages and the long awaited Sailing UI which makes sailing much easier in the early stages of the game. There is a new Collectible Old Knife and a couple of issues were fixed too.

The Fruit Ripening & Regrow system was a huge change in the game engine, brings many more interesting challenges and features and changes gameplay essentially. Existing fruits have gotten a couple of new models in different ripe stages and there's even more to come later during the development phase. The different fruit types have different ripe stages, ripe speeds and different regrow intervals.

Finally, the new Sailing UI has been added - being a big help to learn the sailing mechanic, mainly in the early stages of the game. The Sailing UI comes with 5 different difficulty levels: from very easy 'Starter' having automatic systems up to 'Expert' where you are in full manual control and UI indicators are turned off as well. Switch between each of the different levels freely at any time. It is still possible to individually and manually control Sails and Rudders as before. The Sailing UI difficulty levels are not meant to be mistaken as Sailing Physic Realism/Difficulty levels which will be added later.

There is a new collectible Old Knife which offers stronger hits. The other knives and blades with different properties are on the way.

01. Added: Fruit Ripening system*
02. Added: Fruit Regrow system*
03. Added: Fruit ripe stage models*
04. Added: Sailing UI

Fixes:

01. Fixed: Tall Grass Roll has no weight in inventory
02. Fixed: Tall Grass Roll has no volume in inventory
03. Fixed: A couple of minor internal Raft issues
04. Fixed: Freshly harvested Brown Coconut not floating (ok after save/load)

For the next update we plan to work on raft building mechanic issues some more and to begin to work on the local mapping system (and UI) with the Sextant (along with Sun Clock and Old Watch) with higher priority. The additional plans include also the Old Telescope, Spear, Smoker, Dolphins, Simple Quests, Building modules aging ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 51 - Sextant, Pocket Watch, Sundial and more
Fri, 12 June 2020

Hi everyone,

for this update we were mainly focusing on adding the Sextant and using it in the Local Map. The Old Pocket Watch and Sundial helps the more precise mapping.  Ripened fruits fall to the ground and Water holder objects have gotten dynamic weight. A couple of issues were fixed too.

The Sextant has been finally added and enabled to use in the Local Map. It offers faster position measuring than the Triangulation does - of course after learning its basics which are described in detail in the in-game help pages and hint screens. To make the use of the Sextant in a more simple way, the game offers the best accurate measuring around Noon. Noon time can be more or less accurately determined by crafting and using a Sundial.

The Sundial is the most simple and oldest tool for measuring the time. It can be crafted anywhere on the ground and besides 1 Branch as the time passes it needs Tiny or Small Rocks to be added to the endpoints of the branches shadow. It is possible to pick up the unnecessary Rocks from it again. When the shadow is not shortening anymore and slowly begins to grow it is the the moment of right noon.

The Old Pocket Watch can be set also based on the Sundial and can be used in the game as a time reference. It can get inaccurate after a couple of days, therefore it needs to be reset periodically - best around Noon.

The Old Pocket Watch and the Sextant can be found in a chest on some shipwreck - the location can be found written on a paper piece in a chest on the island to which the Stone arrow on the starting island is aiming to.

The Fruit Ripening & Regrow mechanic have gotten a nice update - a portion of the fully ripened fruit now falls to the ground. Fruit fallen lays untouched for a couple of days and after that disappears. During that interval they are slowly spoiling as the other fruits do. This change gives more realism and slightly more fruit available for the player to survive.

The water holder objects now are weight based on the amount of the liquid contained. The savegame backwards compatibility engine has been fine tuned too so some of the older save games won't force the game to freeze at loading/starting.

Changelog : (* needs new game)

New features:

01. Added: Sundial
02. Added: Old Sextant*
03. Added: Old Pocket Watch*
04. Added: Old Compass
05. Added: Tiny Rock
06. Added: Human Skeleton*
07. Added: Paper Piece*

General:

01. Added: WaterHolders are weight based on the amount of liquid in them
02. Added: Additional Navigation Pockets for Sextant and Telescope in Inventory screen

05. Added: Hint for Pocket Watch
06. Added: Hint for Sundial
07. Added: Help screen for Sundial
08. Added: Custom animation for hitting with Old Iron Axe
09. Added: Functionality to Check and invalidate the SaveFile based on more parameters

Fixes:

03. Fixed: Rudder incorrectly moved with left/right buttons instead of Rotate left/Rotate right buttons in SailingUI

06. Fixed: Incorrect hotkey displayed for Sail rotation (the Rudder ones) in SailingUI

13. Fixed: Possibility to turn on Sail or Steering mode while SailingUI enabled
14. Fixed: Still displayed Sailing hotkeys after another game start
15. Fixed: Still displayed Steering hotkeys after another game start

For the next update we plan to work on raft building mechanic issues some more and to continue to work on the map UI with higher priority. The additional plans include also the Old Telescope, Spear, Smoker, Dolphins, Simple Quests, Building modules aging ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Summer Schedule 2020
Sat, 20 June 2020

Hi everyone,

the summer is finally here and in this short announcement we would like to inform you about our summer schedule.

We are leaving to vacation with our families and in between we are also going to work in our full time jobs which means stress in general so we can't guarantee there will be regular updates during summer time.

The last regular pre-summer release was published last week, on June 12th. We plan to release the next game update on September 4th. During the stretched interval between these releases we plan to work on some interesting and unique features that need more work and we hope you will like them. From September we plan to resume our normal schedule and will return to release an update every 4th Friday.

With the help of our community we together have done a big amount of work and laid down a very good foundation to further improve our game to all our liking.

Thank you all for all of the feedback, ideas and suggestions and for the patience during solving issues!

We wish you a very nice summer and good health and we hope to continue together with our work relaxed and well rested.

Best regards,

Gamers4Gamers Team.

Alpha 52.E1 Experimental - Build module degrade/repair, Stick packs and more
Fri, 4 September 2020

Hi everyone,

the summer is over and we are back with our first experimental build which includes: Build module degrade/repair, Stick and Branch pack, Reworked spoil system, Multi-equip system, separated config data and more.

Development of Escape the Pacific is now at a point where more advanced and complex game mechanics and features need more time to work on. For those of you who like to try out the new, not fully tested additions as they are being developed we like to give you the chance to look into them first hand - by introducing the new experimental builds! The stable/default game builds will receive those experimental updates after those were tested and confirmed over time with and thanks to the community.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

The Experimental builds have their own save data separated from the Stable/Default build save data, so it is possible to switch between the branches flawlessly.
Game Options data has been separated from the ingame save data and besides solves some issues and also gives us more freedom regarding changing/adding new options to the game system.

The newly introduced Storm property indicates the Build modules capability to withstand environmental effects. The higher the Storm property is, the more time it takes to completely degrade the Build module.

The build module Degrade mechanic moves gameplay to a more realistic level. The system calculates the Wind direction, wind speed and wether the build module is hit by direct wind or is shielded by some other module with Storm property to degrade module quality accordingly. The Degrade system actually does simple one point simulations and takes into consideration only the Wind, but in future updates the mechanic will use more precise simulations and will calculate also the Rain and Sun impact.

The damaged modules can now be repaired with a Hammer. Doing so the player can ensure getting the protection a module is offering based on its Wind/Rain/Sun properties. The better a hammer is built and of higher quality, the faster the repair process will be. The process of repairing increases the players Repair skill which is affecting the repairing process itself. There is a new Repair achievement too.

Another new feature is the universal Stick/Branch Pack. It is a big help to transport Sticks/Branches that do not fit into the Backpack. They are universal, because after crafting them from a fixed amount of sticks it is possible to expand them to an extent by adding additional sticks or get sticks from them until the pack is gone.

In case it is not possible to craft any Stick Pack you can now take multiple Sticks or Branches into the hands of the player character and make transportation easier.

The Spoil system was reworked and is different from the behaviour we used to see in earlier versions. The more spoiled the consumed liquid or meal is, the more damage it does to the players health. Spoiled liquids or meals won't lose their thirst or hunger values completely so it is not needed to drink 30 liters of half spoiled water to satisfy thirst values.

The ability to Open/Close door/window when Equipped makes the gameplay more comfortable and the additional saved data in case of attaching an object to a raft ensures more stable attaching after loading a save state.

There are a couple of other internal engine changes that are laying a good base for future mechanics and features, for example the aging information for all objects and custom hand animations for equip/drop ... etc.

Changelog:

01. Added: Storm property for Build modules
02. Added: Build module quality affecting Rain/Sun/Wind properties of Buildings
03. Added: Repair damaged building modules
04. Added: Usage of Repair Skill

06. Changed: Spoiled liquid/meal still have some amount of thirst/hunger values
07. Added: Support for Material Aging mechanic

For the next update we plan to work on Global map and the Multi Cluster system. The additional plans include also the Old Telescope, Fog Catcher, Plank Build modules, Spear, Smoker, Dolphins, Simple Quests, Building modules aging ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 52.E2 Experimental - Open World, Island Clusters, Global Map
Fri, 9 October 2020

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on finally adding the Open World, Island Clusters and the Global Map. Seagull flocks are indicating the nearest Island cluster and the Bed and Dryer can be attached to Rafts. There are more multipack types and it is possible to hold more palm leafs at once too.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch).

The Open World is finally here. The game offers around 6000 x 6000 km area with about ~12000 Island Clusters which takes place in the area between latitudes 30N - 30S and 130E - 170W longitudes. The weather (rainy days, temperature, wind average direction and speed) was modeled based on real Pacific data from that area too. This system offers many unique mechanics and gameplay elements which will be implemented continually.

The travel time between Island Clusters can last a couple of days so it is advised to pile up a good amount of food and water beforehand. Another good idea is to lower the sails/slower the raft when strong winds blow. Before trying to find the first cluster the player should search for a clue about its location on one of the starting cluster's islands (the one where the Captains ship is sunken).

To make the search for island clusters more realistic watching for Seagulls can be useful - during mornings they leave the nearest island cluster to catch fish and in the evenings they are flying back towards the nearest island cluster to sleep.

Beds and the Meal Dryer are now able to be Attach to Raft modules to make traveling and living on the Open Ocean more comfortable. Traveling time can be shortened a lot by using the Beds and sleep as much as it is possible - of course besides Sitting on the Raft base and Waiting which also speeds-up the time.

Coconut Fronds and the Banana Palm Leafs have gotten their respective Packs too in their Small and Big form. Besides the Small Sticks it is now possible to also multi-equip Fire Sticks, Long Sticks, Thick Branches and the Coconut Fronds and Banana Palm Leafs.

The collectible Old Iron Axe, Old Wood Hammer and Old Knife have got correct/much bigger damage and duration values. Forest trees were fixed regarding their shading mechanics so now they can provide the much needed chilling shade in hot days. The Canoes/Rafts left on remote islands shore aren't missing and relocated once revisiting them.

Alpha 52 - Open World, Build module degrade/repair, Stick packs and more
Thu, 15 October 2020

Hi everyone,

the wait is over! We finally managed to re-enable the Open World functionality and added the Build Module degrade/repair mechanic as well. The Seagull Flocks are helping with navigation between Island Clusters on the Global Map. The Bed and Dryer can be attached to Raft modules and there are also new Stick, Branch and Palm Frond Packs, Reworked spoil system, Multi-equip system, separated config data and more.

The newly introduced Storm property indicates the Build modules capability to withstand environmental effects. The higher the Storm property is, the more time it takes to completely degrade the Build module.

Coconut Fronds and the Banana Palm Leafs have gotten their respective Packs too in their Small and Big form.

In case it is not possible to craft any Stick Pack you can now take multiple Sticks or Branches into the hands of the player character and make transportation easier.

Besides the Small Sticks it is now possible to also multi-equip Fire Sticks, Long Sticks, Thick Branches and the Coconut Fronds and Banana Palm Leafs.

There are a couple of other internal engine changes that are laying a good base for future mechanics and features, for example the aging information for all objects and custom hand animations for equip/drop ... etc.

Looking for: Translators ITA/FRA!

Hello everyone,

for the texts in the game we are looking for translators for ITALIAN and FRENCH who would help us with game localization! If you are already interested, continue reading below.

Your Profile
•   Do you like languages in general and deal with its specifics?
•   Ensuring translations make sense and are appropriate are your thing?
•   You value grammar and rhetorics personally?
•   Timelines regarding given deadlines are no problem for you
•   You prefer to make own suggestions to the entire team
•   If questions or doubts arise you always seek dialogue to carry out translations conscientiously and reliably

Our Offer
•   Translations and corresponding text areas will be in your responsibility
•   Your ideas will be discussed on the team
•   Pro-active coordination from your side are well appreciated and also discussed on the team
•   General assistance of game development with possible insights into other areas of game development
•   Being mentioned in the Credits of the game

Good to know
At this moment it is not possible for us to look for help from companies doing professional localization on a financial basis. For now our team consists of voluntary contributors, who all help Escape the Pacific become the game we wish for!

We all are - as the name of our team already speaks for itself - gamers who carry experience of gaming of over 20 years. This experience we like to put into the game, expecting any of our team members to do the very same. Do you feel about being part of this team?

How we work
Usually the texts for translations are sent out to the localization specialists about 3 days before the new game version. Sometimes it would be 3 days, sometimes 2 or sometimes even a week prior to new release. For this every translator will receive a so called "deadline" until those files needed to be sent back to developers as well, to then have the new translated texts implemented into the game. For this we count on your care, your expertise and your passion!

Interested?
If you have interest helping with translations for Italian or French, please post here on steam boards and we'll get back to you promised. In case you are interested in helping us with the localization of other languages not yet supported we appreciate you contacting us as well!

Already supported text languages & Thank-You's
•   English
•   German
•   Russian
•   Spanish

You feel about more than that?
If you are convinced you are able to contribute to this project in any constructive way please do not hesitate to write to us! Because .... this is the way the existing team was formed

Best wishes & All the best!

Alpha 53.E1 Experimental - Gardening mechanic, Plank build Materials & Modules
Sun, 22 November 2020

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on adding the Gardening mechanic and new Plank build Materials & Modules. There is a new Potato Plant & Fruit, a new Cooking Pot and Sealed Jars. Buildings maximal height was increased and there are new, more realistic Stars as well.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

The long awaited Gardening mechanic is finally here. The first ones in the long list of the gardening mechanic are Plant Boxes. They offer a couple of combinations: There are small and big ones, made from sticks or from planks and they are either movable, stationary or can be attached to raft. The ones crafted from different ingredients are drying up at different speed. Planting directly into the ground will be introduced in the next game updates.

The first crop for planting is the Potato. For now it can be found in collectible chests. It can be planted or eaten after cooking on stones or used as a recipe ingredient. It is possible to make Potato Chips which can be grilled on stones as well. The growing/maturing time for the Potato was set to 12 ingame days. The basic functionalities of the Gardening mechanic will be widely expanded in the next game updates (growing based on season, difficulty and dayforward values). More plant/crop types are planned too.

The next building material we introduce is the Plank. It can be acquired by destroying bigger plank boxes that are often found along shore sides. The Plank Build modules offer the highest possible protection against Sun, Wind, Rain - and most importantly - Storm.

There are a couple of new collectibles too: The Cooking Pot allows to make much tastier and more nutritious meals but it asks for more ingredients to be added. Sealed Jars are used as containers for liquids. Which leads us to a new game changing and more realistic feature: Liquids contained in open waterholder objects (eg Coconut put, ...) cannot be stored in pockets, backpackes or crates anymore.

The maximal building height was increased from ~8 meters to as high as ~40 meters. It means additional ~13 floors depending on ground elevation. The night sky now features more realistic Stars and it is now easier to find known Constellations.

The new Dew Catcher will be a big help when in some scenarios there is much need to acquire water to have it ready each morning.

Trunk Holders make it possible to organize and hold all sort of Trunks, Thick Branches and Long Sticks in place. They can be attached to Raft modules but then its holding capacity is lower.

The maximal building height was increased from ~8 meters to as high as ~40 meters. It means additional ~13 floors depending on ground elevation. The night sky now features more realistic Stars and it is now easier to find known Constellations. Last but not least there is a new menu item on the Main menu to give credit to those who are responsible for game development and/or support the game in a special and appreciated way: The new Credits screen.

Hi everyone,

the end of the year is approaching and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting us throughout the year! Thank you for your ideas, suggestions and criticism helping us making Escape the Pacific a better game.

This year we were still mainly adding the basic mechanics and functionality. Besides that the game content was also expanded with huge amount of new content. The list of new additions is long, so let's quickly summarize the most important ones: Dedicated pockets for navigation tools, Objectives mechanism, Many new collectible objects, Ship wrecks for looting, Primitive Shelters, Sacred islands, Big grassy islands, Grass build material & Build modules, Transport canoe, Attaching objects to Canoe and Raft base, Sailing UI, Fruit Regrow & Ripening system, Sextant, Pocket Watch, Sundial, Building degrade&repair mechanic, Stick&Frond packs, Plank build material & Build modules, Plant growing mechanic. On top of that: Open World, Island Clusters and Global Map. As you can see this was a very packed (and also busy) year with lots added the game, making it even more interesting and enjoyable.

As almost all of the basic features are already implemented (only a couple of them still awaiting implementation), in the next year we will continue to aim for expansion of already added features and adding even more and more new content: More collectibles and recipes, vegetation (also bigger, jungle ones), island types (bigger ones), animals (ocean and ground), quests, story elements ... There will be a couple of surprise elements too. Because of the fact the game takes place in the mid 1800's it offers a whole lot of possibilities to implement interesting and unique features. We hope that the community will continue to support us with new ideas, suggestions and with their positive energy so we together get to make our game even better. Some of the ideas we already received were truly inspiring and will find their way into the game sooner or later for sure.

Holidays are here and besides resting we plan to work on some new features and improving gameplay a little although working a bit less on our game.

Our next build will be released in January 2021, until then:

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Hello there,

we apologize, but we would like to inform you that the Alpha 54.E1 update which was planned to release on 29.01.2021 was postponed to 02.02.2021 due to some private life situations and extreme dayjob overload (mainly last week).

Thank you for your patience.

Where is the Update to A54.E1?
Tue, 2 February 2021

https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/30166228/66c78c9f7e5a80a0a40ec639ef19ddaa17788dd1.jpg

Where is the Update to A54.E1?

A valid question indeed! Also I have been wondering when the update, we promised to provide you with, is soon going live, but unfortunately some new issues came up during development and bug testing. It was clear further and deeper investigation was required that takes time. Because of this we decided to not take into account releasing an update containing a faulty version.

As a matter of fact our fulltime jobs demand quite a lot from us and because of that it also had impact on our private lives. To resolve the situaton appropriately we set up a brainstorm meeting to determine the outlines of what postponing means for us as a developer team as well as what it means for you, the community. Our conclusion is: Be it tomorrow, be it today, be it this week - we are not able to promise to you when A54.E1 will be released but we can say it is going to happen some time this week. We'll try our best!

In any way it is not an easy thing for us to postpone the update again but we think a decision needed to be made to keep up the usual quality! Either way there's a lot to look forward to in the new update ... even though the update that will be released a little bit later than expected ...

Thank you for all of your support and passion!

Best wishes & All the best!

Alpha 54.E1 Experimental - Trim & Cultivate, Soil & Composter, Carrot & Corn
Thu, 4 February 2021

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on expanding the Gardening mechanic and adding new plants - Carrot and Corn. It is possible to Trim the grass and Cultivate the ground. There is an Old Sickle and a Crude Shovel added. The Soil can be made in Composters. New cooking Recipes were added and a large bunch of issues was fixed too.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

The gardening mechanic has been expanded and it is now possible to Cultivate the ground by using the new craftable Crude Shovel. It is possible only on spots where no grass is growing. After the field is completely cultivated it is ready to receive seeds or plants to grow.

The Grass can be Trimmed also with bare Hands now - but it needs more hits than a collectible Old Sickle.

The new Carrot plant increases the food variety and brings some new Cook recipes too.

The new Corn plant provides only some limited usage of the Fruit (Cooked and Boiled Corn). The Stalks, Cobs and Leaves will be used in later game updates.

The Composter expands the gardening mechanic in a new way and besides generating Soil for Plants it works well for getting rid of the Spoiled Meal too. The added materials are transforming slowly into Soil - the speed is the fastest when all the 3 material types (brown - sand, green - leaves and sticks, bio - fruit, meal) are added in equal amounts.

Alpha 54 - Anniversary MEGA patch
Fri, 19 February 2021

Hi everyone,

for this Anniversary build we were mainly focusing on expanding the Gardening mechanic with: grass Trimming, Cultivating the ground and making Soil. There are new plants: Carrot and Corn. There are new tools: Crude Shovel, Composter and collectible Old Sickle. The building mechanic was expanded with new Half doors and new Railings. The Stamina and tool Damage mechanic was balanced a little. There are Pirate Ships cruising the Ocean and a large bunch of issues was fixed too.

The new Railings, Half Doors and the corresponding Half Wall build modules bring more variety to the Building design.

The Stamina mechanic (while running and hitting) and the Tool Damage values during degradation were also balanced a little and now depend also on the difficulty setting.

Pirate Ships are cruising the ocean between islands every couple of days. They stop and anchor by some islands and leave there a chest with valuables. It is not advised to come near or chase them at all - they shoot and destroy everything that comes in their way. It is possible to turn this feature off in the Custom game screen.

Alpha 55 - Hemp, Tables, Grass Beds, Candle Stand
Fri, 16 April 2021

Hi everyone,

for this build we were mainly focusing on adding Hemp as Plant and also as a Crafting material for Small Rope. There are new Tables, new Bed and a collectible Candle Stand. The Raft mechanic was improved.

The Hemp can be found wildly grow on islands (although it is a little rare). It can be directly used as Craft ingredient or it's seeds can be collected and used to planting in Cultivated Field. The Hemp Stem can be used now only for crafting Small rope - which itself  adds more possibilities to the game play. There will be more usages of Hemp which will be added in future versions.

Summer Schedule 2021
Wed, 30 June 2021

Hi everyone,

the summer is finally here and in this short announcement we would like to inform you about our summer schedule.

We are leaving to vacation with our families and in between we are also going to work in our full time jobs which means stress in general so we can't guarantee there will be regular updates during summer time.

The last regular pre-summer release was published on June 11th. We plan to release the next game update on September 10th (Experimental) and on October 1 (Regular). From October we plan to resume our normal schedule and will return to release an update every 8th Friday (on 5th Friday it is Experimental release day).

During the stretched interval between these releases we plan to work on some interesting and unique features that need more work and we hope you will like them. Also it is very needed to migrate our game to a newer game engine build which is much more optimized and stable (the engine itself). Another plan is to add the much awaited bigger (~3 times bigger area of the actual biggest grassy island ) islands too (but still not the biggest ones :-) ). There will be ponds, hills and big forests too. Besides the above mentioned big changes the bug fixing will be still our almost top priority.

Alpha 57.E1 Experimental - Internal engine update, New Islands, Pond&Muddy water
Fri, 10 September 2021

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on updating the internal game engine and adding background functionality required for future features. On some new island you might also find a small Pond with muddy water. It is now possible to choose the properties of the starting island while we also introduce 2 new island types as well.
To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

During the Summer we managed to add and upgrade the internal engine parts which are necessary for adding new features in the future. There is also a new complex system for creating multiple biomes on islands which enables the ability to create islands with a couple of different biomes at once. In example Forest, Jungle, Grassy, Rocky Hills, Ponds and Swamps mixed. We will have a big amount of different islands that find their way into the game continually in the future - of course along with many new building ingredients and new features. The game's underlying base engine - Unity - was upgraded to a more recent engine version and therefore we also made sure there's a full new ocean system for you to enjoy.

It is now possible to override the world generator and choose the properties of the Starting island in a new dialog window which we'll expand with new island types in future updates.

This new island generator's first introduction is the Archipelago small island group.

Another new island type is the Big Forest type, which - besides the new, taller trees - introduces the first "bigger" island topology. Later we'll have 2 even bigger ones.

Based on the new biome system we also finally made it to add the Pond along with the muddy water mechanic. Ponds can sometimes be found hidden on the Big Forest type island and only in this kind of island type. For muddy water to become clean you would need to boil it. After that you are safe to drink it or using it in cooking recipes. In its raw and unboilt state drinking it you will still receive a health bonus but expect health issues.

Alpha 58.E1 Experimental - Tool Repair, Smoker
Tue, 23 November 2021

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on issue fixing and we managed to add some new features too. The sharp tools can be Repaired to extend their usability. The Smoker offers meal preservation also in cold/wet weather.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

The tool Repairing mechanic has been finally added hence the spawn frequency of the sharp tools could be reduced. The maximum achievable quality is reduced by every Repair operation completed. The tools can be repaired by hitting them with a Carving Stone. More sophisticated method will be added later.

The new attach/detach mechanic for Doors & Windows replaces the - not very user friendly and intuitive - old system. The Doors & Windows should be attached at first from hand to their corresponding building modules and they need to be fastened with rope afterwards.

The Cold Smoker offers a good option for food preservation in wet and cold environment when the Meal Drier would not work properly. To have good quality smoke it is needed to add wet wood into is't fire (of course the kindling needs to be dry).

The Wall Torch Holder and the Wall Lantern Holder bring more light into the dark nights. The Wall Lantern Holder is quite useful to lit up the exterior of the Rafts on the ocean.

The campfires can be extinguished by pouring water on it. The bigger the fire the more water is needed. The wood gets wet, so the next ignition could be a little harder until the wood not dries up a little. The small campfires can be extinguished by destroying them too but that removes all the remaining wood from them.

Changelog:

New features:
1. Tool Repair mechanic
2. New Attach/Detach mechanic for Doors&Windows
3. Banana leaf Cold Smoker
4. Coconut leaf Cold Smoker
5. Torch Wall Holder
6. Lantern Wall Holder

General:
1. Campfire can be extinguished by water and by destroying (the small ones)

Fixes (highlights):
1. Sliding/falling of dragged and/or dropped objects and blueprints underground
2. Rafts disappearing when exiting the island cluster
3. Doors & Windows disappearing after returning home from far away islands

Alpha 59 - Fast Sail, Napping, Black Mangrove, Optimizations
Fri, 1 April 2022

Hi everyone,

for this build we were mainly focusing on issue fixing and we managed to add some new features too. The Fast Sailing reduces the time needed for discovering New clusters and the Napping  feature makes the gameplay faster for the players with slower timeflow values. The Black Mangrove provides Salt.

The Fast Sailing feature is a true game changer and we appreciate your patience and your help from the past weeks. When using Fast Sailing, searching for clusters is a breeze. What was previously a couple of real time hours is now a couple of minutes. Fast Sailing only works when you’re out on the Open Ocean. The Raft will begin to sail automatically in the actual direction for a given time interval until it gets close to a new cluster. Given the complexity of these new mechanics, the Fast Sail is fully automatic and we plan to add more interesting and unique features to it. Enjoy it and let us know what you think about this new feature.

You asked us to improve the sleeping mechanics and we are happy to announce that now you can take a nap in-game. The Napping feature makes the gameplay faster for the players with slower timeflow values. Planning your daily activities is now easier than ever. Players can now fast forward the time for shorter intervals during the day.

The Attach/Detach mechanic for Rudders, Sail Masts and Sails has been changed to work the same way like attaching Doors and Windows - Item needs to be equipped, aimed at the desired place and Attached. Strong Rope is required to fasten the item in its final location. By using this mechanic we eliminated many issues that were caused by the physics engine.

You’ve also asked for an easier way to harvest salt. We hope the new Black Mangrove tree will help. These trees grow on the shore around the tide level on some islands. They excrete a small amount of salt on their leaves which can be collected by the player.

The liquid mechanic was reworked to allow handling of multiple components at the same time. The first Multi component liquid is Salt water. This means that harvesting salt from salt water is dependent of the amount of water used. Less water gives a low salt amount and more water gives a higher salt amount.

The remaining changes and optimizations we made, will allow us in the future to spawn more rocks, sticks and various other items on the ground more efficiently. We also looked into the low FPS issues you were experiencing and are happy to announce that we optimized this too, but keep in mind that if you run the game on a low end computer you might still experience low FPS.

Changelog:

New features:

1. Fast Sail
2. Napping
3. Black Mangrove
4. Collecting Salt from Black Mangroves
5. Multi component liquid

General:

1. New Attach/Detach mechanic for Rudder, Sail Mast, Sail
2. Performance optimizations

Fixes (highlights):

1. Smoker issues
2. Sometimes disappearing Doors and Windows
3. Fruit and Fronds respawn on trees
4. Canoe and Raft sometimes disappears
5. Dropped objects falling into the ground
6. 'Starred' recipes' issues
7. UI stuck issues
8. Pond not acting as water (wet, floating, sounds)
9. Raft movement issues
10. Building blueprint placement issues
11. Sextant usage issues
12. Local & Global map drawing issues

We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 60.E1 Experimental - Hill Island, Skill degradation, Item Holders

Hi everyone,

In this experimental build we focused mainly on fixing bugs. We also added exciting new features too, requested by the community. These are: Hill Island, Degrading Skills and the long awaited Item Holders.

Hill Island

You can now explore a brand new island of type “Big Forest Island with Hill feature”. Besides enjoying beautiful scenery views with various Hill types, this feature offers new possibilities to build a homestead in different weather conditions: While the wind is stronger at the top of the hill, the foothold of the hill can provide shade and protection.

Summer Schedule 2022
Mon, 27 June 2022

Summer is finally here and with it comes our schedule too

Hello Players!

What a fantastic first 6 months of the year we had! Thanks to your feedback and bug reports we managed to not only solve game-breaking bugs but also to implement new features requested by the community. Your contribution means the world to us! Really. Without your help we wouldn’t be where we are now. Thank you!

Thank you for your patience, dedication and most of all for sticking with us!

Now, that we released version
Alpha 60
on the normal branch, it’s time for us to recharge our batteries and enjoy a couple of days off. This means that regular updates will be paused as listed below. We will still be available on Discord for all of you and please drop us a message and tag us, especially if you encounter new, annoying bugs. Please also continue using the “Report bug” feature in the game menu. We don’t want to come back from our days off and have nothing to do

Here’s a rough plan of what you can expect during the coming weeks and months:
1.   Next regular update planned for mid September (Experimental branch)
2.   Same update will move to the normal branch around early October
3.   Starting early October we plan on resuming our normal schedule
4.   Regular updates will continue on the same 3 monthly rotation as usual

We are aware that some of you are used to more frequent game updates, however, releasing new features every week/month is very risky. We have experienced it in the past, where frequent updates introduced game-breaking bugs. Some of them still lurking around.

Escape the Pacific is now at a development stage where we can’t afford the risk of releasing fast updates anymore, like in the past years. Looking at the most recent approach where we release updates on a 3-monthly basis (sometimes with a small delay) we can see that these updates are more stable. While they still have minor bugs, these are in most cases easy to fix.

As you have already experienced on Discord
our team grew in volunteers
. This allows us to perform better and more intensive QA testing of new features, before we release them to the players.

Good things take time and a great community! The community is there... All we need now is more time

We wish you an enjoyable summer and we will see you in a couple of weeks well rested for the next adventure in the Pacific!
Thank you! Every single one of you!
You are amazing!

On behalf of G4G Team,
Peter

We are still here, working hard on the next update and we are sorry for letting you wait longer than usual.

The long awaited update (experimental branch) is now scheduled for the 18th November, this year. Postponing was not an easy decision for us, however, we didn’t want to release an update just for the sake of releasing one.

We aim for the updates to get better in quality and this sometimes requires more time and work than previously anticipated. We, the G4GT members, also had to deal with private matters in the past weeks. This is not an excuse, it’s us being transparent to you, because we care.

    Radu - UX/UI & Project Lead

The next update is focused on improvements requested by the community:

1.    There will be an improved time-flow system that will allow players to work smarter, not harder
2.    We will encourage the player to sail more by adding a surprise island (or maybe two!)
3.    A new source of clean water is also in the making.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Stay alive and we will see you on the 18th!

Alpha 61.E1: UI/UX Redesign, New Time-flow, New Island type, New Waves
Fri, 18 November 2022

Hello Survivors,

This experimental build brings you a redesigned Main Menu, a reworked Time Flow system, a new island type full of Mangrove trees (for you to use it as a salt mine) and an improved waves system with nicer looking shore waves.

How to switch between “Experimental” and “Normal” branches
In your Steam library, right-click Escape The Pacific and select “Properties”. A window will pop up. On the left select “Betas” and from the dropdown select “Experimental” to access this update. You can switch back to “None” to access the stable branch.

Watch this YouTube video where we showcase this update

https://youtu.be/WmxSWZjZm3o

Game Menu Redesign

As part of our continuous improvement, we started updating the user interface. The first step is a brand new Main Menu design. Starting a new game and customizing it, is now much simpler and more straightforward. In the future we want to further expand the game customization settings and give you more options to immerse yourself in the game. In future updates we will also redesign the in-game user interface.

Reworked Time-Flow System

Based on player feedback and due to many optimization issues with all the different time-flow values we had, we decided to rework the entire system. In short, we have removed all time flow options from the game and introduced a 24 hour time-flow mode. This mode is not selectable from the game settings as you are used to. This mode will run in the background and will advance the time of day based on time intervals for each action performed. This means that now 1 in-game day will technically last 24 real life hours and every action (craft, build, chop etc.) will speed up the time by the time it takes to complete. For example, every hit with the axe advances the time forward by 5 minutes.

Mangrove Island

Mangrove islands give the player the opportunity to gather the much needed salt to survive. Given the nature of Mangrove trees, the majority of the island is always submerged under water, which makes it not the most pleasant place to build a shelter.

Shore Waves

The newly introduced Shore waves not only make the ocean look nicer but also introduces a new level of gameplay difficulty. If you want to set sail the easy way, you now have to find the side of the island that has the lowest waves. The same applies for getting off the raft when reaching an island. The size of the waves depends on the wind conditions. As a rule of thumb, the waves are the highest on the up-wind side of an island and are the lowest on the opposite side.

Changelog:

New features:

1. Redesigned Main Menu
2. Reworked Time-Flow System
3. Mangrove Island
4. Shore Waves

We will continue prioritizing fixing new and also old bugs.

The next planned additions are: Reworked tutorials, new Clean Water source, Mud material, Primitive Stove, Water filtering, Map UI, Old Telescope, Old Pistol, Spear, Dolphins, Simple Quests, aging of Building modules and many more.

We have set up a Patreon for those who wish to support game development. Announcement page is here: Patreon News.

The entire team is thanking you for your support, suggestions and most of all for your patience.

Do you like our game and want to help even more during development? We look forward to every positive review posted on our Steam page and thank everyone who decides to support us along the way!

Please be aware that during early access phase game code could change as much as affecting gameplay when loading/saving savegames from earlier versions. To always be on the safe side make sure to start a new game with each update. Thank you!

G4GTeam.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask us. We will try to answer your questions in detail.

Help Shape the Look of 'Escape the Pacific' - Have Your Say!

Dear Survivors!

Needless to say that at 'Gamers4Gamers Team' we believe that the best games are made not just by developers, but by the entire gaming community. That's why we're excited to involve you in a crucial decision that will impact your gameplay experience.

We've been hard at work revamping our User Interface, and we've designed two unique styles for how vitals are presented on the Heads Up Display (HUD). Both styles have their merits, but we want to know which one resonates with you the most.

Here's how you can participate:

Check Out the UI Styles

Take a look at the two different UI styles for vitals at the bottom of this announcement. We've provided visuals to help you make an informed choice.

Cast Your Vote

Once you've examined both styles in conjunction with the overall UI style sample, cast your vote as described below under How to vote.

Spread the Word

Encourage your fellow survivors and community members to participate as well. The more voices we hear, the better our decision will be.

Why Your Vote Matters
Your vote isn't just about aesthetics; it's about crafting the ideal survival experience. The winning UI style will become a part of 'Escape the Pacific,' shaping how you interact with the game and adding to the overall ambiance of survival in the Pacific wilderness.

Voting Period
The voting period begins today and will run until the 13th September 2023. So, don't delay; have your say and help us make 'Escape the Pacific' even better!

UI Assets

Please note that everything you see regarding the new UI design is subject to change. What you see here might not end up in the game exactly the same.

Have a look at this image showcasing the concept of the new UI

These are the two UI styles for the vitals

Style A
(https://clan.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/images//30166228/fd178f5694d2106436e1d49b231663a4cf60d90d.png)

To make it easier to understand the entirety of how the vitals fall in place on the new HUD design, here you can see an example for each of the two new UI styles in place

    How to Vote
We are looking for which style you think fits better in the overall HUD design.

Open this voting form and answer 2 questions. Shouldn't take longer than 1.5 minutes.

We're thrilled to have you actively participate in this decision, and we can't wait to see which UI style resonates with the community most. Your involvement makes 'Escape the Pacific' an even greater adventure.

Thank you for being part of our community and for helping us shape the future of our game.

Have a great rest of the day,

Development update #3
Fri, 10 November 2023

Long time no see! Curious what’s bubbling behind the scenes?

Greetings Survivors!

It's been a while, but as always we've been working hard in the background on the next Major Update.

This year we underestimated the interconnectivity of the Q3 and Q4 updates, where the planned Q4 features were massively interlinked to the Q3 updates, in such a way that we had to merge both in one big update.

"But when!?" you ask? => To be released at the end of this year.

Let's have a look at what the next update has in store for you.

Upgraded HUD System

You told us many times that the game looks outdated, many times unfortunately through negative reviews on Steam. We’re reading everything you’re posting on Steam, and we’re happy to announce that a new HUD is nearly finished and will go into testing phase in the next few days.

Please note that even though we’re showing an item in the left hand, left hand usage is not part of this update.

HUD Concept
(Work in progress)

We’re planning to implement a flexible HUD, where you can select in the settings how much or how little of the HUD elements you want to see, to fully immerse yourself into the game.

No matter the selected HUD visibility settings, you will have access to all information on the Inventory and Character pages.

Modern UI System and Design
The new HUD goes hand-in-hand with the new UI design. It is time for Escape the Pacific to step up its game and receive a well deserved facelift.

With the new UI you will be able to see all stats at a glance on the HUD, given you have set the HUD visibility settings to 100%.

We redesigned the entire UI visuals from ground up, and we have tidied up the UX system based on your precious feedback.

VITALS

The Vitals section shows all important details about your character. We have incorporated colour coded arrows to indicate if a stat is going up or down.

Please remember that while Wetness goes up, the arrow will point up in Red color, and while Salt intake goes up, the arrow will point up in Green color. Basically, the arrow points the direction in which the stat is moving, and the color of the arrow indicates if it affects the character in a good or in a bad manner.

A new addition is the Sanity indicator. This one will most likely be a placeholder for now, because we can not confirm that it will be ready in time for Q4 update. However, once implemented, you will be able to maintain and improve your sanity by sitting on the ground and relax, by meditating, by reading books and by using the statutes on the sacred statues island. If you wish to contribute further to this, with your ideas and suggestions, please join us on Discord and come talk to us. Same if you have questions. Phew… We thought this day will never come… But here we are… Finally!

Experimental Branch Release

Hello Survivors!

Given our private circumstances, this Exp is the first Exp release that is still under heavy development. What better way for you to contribute to shaping the future of Escape the Pacific?

Your patience is truly appreciated. As a small indie studio, Escape the Pacific is our passion project. Over five years, we've been committed to regular updates, driven by your feedback and positivity. Thank you for being an integral part of this incredible journey!

We know you like transparency and we'd like to share with you that our personal lives were turned upside down in the past two months, which ended up in this delay. However, it's finally here!

Fun fact
This end of year was the most relaxed one we ever had, moving towards Q4 release, and out of nowhere we were triple-slapped in the face by life. We won't bore you with details and we hope you're not taking this as an excuse.

-- Peter --

TLDR
New UI - Massive design overhaul
Custom HUD settings and UI scale options
Bird Trap Mechanics
Companion and Bird Cage Mechanics
Refactored 31k lines of code
Squished more bugs than you can fit in a coconut bowl
Reworked 200 actions related to the hotkey and control system

UI Design Overhaul
We don't want to spoil it for you, so we will only show a couple of the new UI updates. Please feel free to experience the rest yourself, and let us know how you feel about it.

One major change is the new popup when aiming at an object. We've heard you and we've redesigned it bigger. This will make your life easier, especially when reading Blueprint ingredients.

Another major change is the way we separated the key bindings.

Local Actions: These are actions that can be performed with the item that is in your hand, will be displayed above the Item in Hand icon, bottom right of the screen
External Actions: These are actions that can be performed to the external item that you’re looking at

Companion
Many of you asked for a companion and I bet you didn’t expect this to be one of the most vicious things in the game… The killer Gulls!
If you decide to keep them as pets, please make sure you keep them fed and watered
You’ll be able to take them out of the cage and release them. They will fly towards the nearest cluster. This might come in handy while you’re out at sea, searching for a new cluster.

You can craft the bird cage from the crafting menu, to safely transport your new companion.

Bird Trap
Pretty much self explanatory, the Bird Trap! Craft it from the menu, position, arm, bait, and await the fluttering seagull. Note: the seagull model might not be updated in the experimental version—enjoy the current one for now. Happy trapping!

Sailing UI/UX
We have simplified the sailing UX, and split the available settings into two categories:

Sailing Mode

Beginner
You influence the boat movement. Sails and Rudders are set automatically by the system, based on your key input.
Sail and Rudder control: Auto
Sail and Raft behavior: Auto
Raft and Wind indicator: On

Advanced
You influence the rotation and position of the Sails and Rudders. The boat movement is based on the position and rotation of the Sails and Rudders.
Sail and Rudder control: Manual
Sail and Raft behavior: Manual
