WWIIE Scenario #37 To the Seine: AAR

By: Christolos

I finished this scenario about a month ago playing as the Axis vs the AI with FOW on, and thought I would try my hand at posting an AAR.

I decided the only way the Axis could win was to be as aggressive as possible by attacking towards Avranches and Caen at the same time.

Avranches was captured and I was able to drive towards Caen.

I also discovered that when attacking with 4 to 1 and 5 to 1 odds (especially with 5 to 1 odds), it seems to make sense to always attack with the "Capture Hex Attack" option (which yields double losses) everytime. With two lucky die rolls I was able to inflict heavy losses in both attacks (combats #6 and #7). The benefits of this type of attack at high odds makes it a no brainer to use since most of the time the attacker will take no losses and the defender could take heavy losses, especially if the doubling coincides with an additional doubling if the sum of AF and DF are >= 100, or an additional tripling if the sum of AF and DF are >= 150 (e.g., combat #7 which yielded a whopping 24 losses!). This got me thinking that this could be a bit of an exploit against the AI since it doesn't seem to ever choose the "Capture Hex Attack" option when attacking at 5 to 1 odds.
