Yes. Like I wrote, the 4.2 manual version doesn't even mention the function anymore, so I suppose once that a new patch is made available (or an upgrade to 4.3, whichever is first) you'll receive the latest manual with it.

The decision to run a new print batch essentially lies with the web store operators. As much as I'd love to always have copies in stock, the reality is that often there's manual overproduction and the remaining copies become obsolete as a new version is being released.
If we had a predictable release pace that might be workable, but at the end of the day there are sometimes factors beyond control that cause delays, sometimes up to two years.
FEX, take versions 4.1 and 4.2. A few key elements didn't make it (some never will), so we released 4.2 for free (also making good on some 4.1 promises). So, 4.3 will be the next major upgrade with substantial feature additions. So we'll update the manual for those. And then enough changes will have accumulated justifying a new print batch, I suppose.

2021/2022 first quarter
Within that time period, probably just a patch, not an update.
2022 will bring you SB Pro PE version 4.3, a major upgrade.

I think we had to revert the replacement of the joystick input software library because it caused a problem that we haven't yet properly identified. We didn't want to delay the release of this patch, so we decided to hold back the change that I mentioned before until the upgrade 4.3 next year, so we have enough time to iron out whatever kink may still be there.
I'm sorry that I created false hopes with my premature report of triumph above, but I hope that you can still live with either no joystick, or joystick swapping for a few more months.

There's going to be some joystick changes, hopefully for the better, in the not-too-distant future - but it needs more testing, so it's going to be version 4.3.

https://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/15420-4268-routes-for-vehicles-getting-them-to-stick-to-the-roads/#comment-221084
No - but to be honest, I don't think this would be necessary or make a difference to begin with. Generally, whenever a platoon is in column formation and the direction to the next route vertex does not deviate more than +/-30° from the direction of the road, the platoon will stay on the road anyway. So it is quite possible to use both Navmesh intelligence in combination with road-bound movement, but unfortunately you'd have to forego the convenience of holding the Shift key for long distance routes between waypoints (a practice that I have never recommended to begin with). The prerequisite is that the unit is in column formation (duh).
In version 4.1/4.2 units still don't have a way to anticipate sharp turns on a road. They won't slow down if moving at high speed before it's too late and are therefore alsmot guaranteed to overshoot a turn. We've been working on a number of improvements in the 4.3 branch, so coming June a scenario that might not work too well right now for this reason alone might actually behave better (but hard to say without looking at the specific case). So, one way to avoid trouble is to have a waypoint some 50m in front of a sharp turn, then make the turn with a slow route and narrow spacing, and resume normal speed and distances a while later. In an ideal world the units would do this automatically, I agree, but we have to work with how it is right now.

But does that capability already exist? (https://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/15449-right-clicking-on-map-in-mission/#comment-221580)
A tutorial video is in preparation.
Task forces allow you to create "group routes" that auto-clone the path that you plot; you can then make adjustments before you give then a command for the whole TF to follow the new route. Note that "Infantry Task Forces" are limited to platoon size (or at least, in version 4.3 they will be), but as such suitable for making infantry platoons act as coherent formations. Should make handling infantry-heavy scenarios much easier.

Crew positions and (accurate) modelling of the fire control systems of late Russian equipment is not the focus of our military customers, who tend to hog most of our available development time. There are a few that we managed to squeeze in between contracts, and more will be coming later this year, but sorry, no T-90 for you. I reckoned that our chances of the Russian army to give us access to one of their tanks for a few days were "slim" even before the recent shit show.

In a few months we shall reveal what the version 4.3 upgrade entails. It's basically the collection of work done over the past two years, and I think in some places we take steps into the uncanny valley of being a tad too close to contemporary events for some people's tastes. Not because we're super-fast to adopt Steel Beasts, just reflecting clearly visible trends that now culminate in headlines.

Expect a video every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from now on, and then some extras in between.
I'm going to try out the Youtube "#shorts" format which dictates vertical video. Please bear with me - but maybe it's going to attract a few new players, who knows. At least, those videos will be short.
Also, some content simply clashes with our inner verticality, so don't abandon all hope, yet.

As do I. I doubt that the T-72B3 will be crewable, but then again, I never expected the BTR-82A to become crewable. Also, Ssnake has implied that there will be no changes to the thermal signature of destroyed vehicles: https://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/15809-hype-thread-2022/page/5/#comment-225940

Yeah the new BTRs are cool. I'm a Ukraine war junkie and those BTRs will fit in great. Steel Beasts just needs those t72b3s and crewable Ukraine produced T82s and we can get some pretty authentic Ukraine '22 scenarios going.

First off, I think 4.3 is going to speed up some of these operations, if I remember some remarks by our programmers in the weekly meetings from the last six months.
Second, hard to say what hardware is going to speed up things for you without knowing the baseline (the specs of your current PC).
Third, "more is more"; if you currently have a rather meagre amount of RAM, then more is going to help. If you have just two CPU cores from ten years ago at 2.2 GHz, well, 16 cores at 3.5 GHz will not just get certain things done faster by a factor of 12 as the naive multiplication might suggest, but rather by factor 20 as each year CPUs, on average, tend to get 5% faster per cycle. On the other hand, single-thread performance will grow from that 2.2GHz machine only by factor 2.5 in this given example.
Semi-coherent rant with a skewed car analogy:
The by far biggest improvement you will see with the version 5 engine because Steel Beasts is not very efficient with certain tasks at the moment. Since 2016 we have invested a fair bit of effort into improving the overall performance. But that has limits.
Let's say, you're preparing a 1960s clunker car for racing. It's made of thick steel sheets, it has a gearbox with three gears forward. Sure, you can put in new shock absorbers, put on new tires, remove seats from the interior to save weight ... but the car still has only three gears forward, the engine won't deliver more than 3,000 RPM, and the 2.5 tons of steel, even if rusty, can't easily be replaced. So there is a limit of what potential this car has. Not saying that Steel Beasts is a rusty 1960s clunker car, just pointing out that what could be improved in performance since 2016, we largely did with version 4.1 and 4.2; so 4.3 and subsequent 4.xs will not suddenly crush old performance records. So, to stay in the car analogy, let's say you find an engine from another car that you can fit into the clunker, and that engine will go up to 4,500 RPM. Then with this change and everything else you can maybe reduce the lap time by 15%. That's a huge improvement in some sense - until you realize that a new car built from ground up could reduce lap times by 40% without optimizations, and then later maybe by 95% compared to the original baseline.
What I'm trying to say with this is, faster hardware today is going to improve things a bit for you, but maybe not dramatically so, depending on your starting point and what the specific bottleneck is. But if you buy a new PC these days, then you should factor in what's going to be beneficial with version 5 once that it's ready for you because it's going to be ready faster than a PC bought today is going to become obsolete.

Version 4.3 will have a limited robotic surveillance capability that will work for designated areas, but not in a completely autonomous fashion, and you couldn't program a flight path, and it requires "the science-fiction" UAV (a system that is still in development, and then with a generous extrapolation from our end). We want to give the Mission Designers the ability to try out something with it, but without completely wrecking the existing game, so to speak.

Soooo... there's one last bug that seems to be blocking a release. Assuming that it can be addressed today or tomorrow, then verified by the day after, we'd have a candidate release for 4.3
Not a perfect candidate maybe, but a decent one that's going to give you something new to explore and tinker with, the one or other visual improvement we haven't even mentioned yet.
Failing a release by Friday might still allow for a release on August 5th (Plan F, or something), but I'd rather avoid that delay.

I expect an update in the second half of January. We need to wait until Wibu Systems releases an update to fix an issue for some Windows 11 users where the debugger detection erroneously trips the container lock. Until then we're adding minor new features and test them, so you'll get a bit more than just a bunch of bugfixes.

That being said, we're pretty confident in the Steel Beasts side of things. What's left to do is to update the CodeMeter side of things and to test that; there's a good chance that the fix will be ready by next weekend.

It will be at least a full installer. Maybe also a patch installer, depending on whether major artwork resource files have changed. No point building a patch installer if it doesn't conserve a lot of memory/download volume compared to the full installer. Also, we want to avoid the concatenation of patch installers so you don't have to keep a long chain of them that must be applied in exact order.

I expect the new version to be made available by Thursday (this might mean Friday in Australia); we want to give the web installer a final check before the release (and it needs to be built first). Sean will post the Release Notes as soon as he's ready, possibly ahead of the actual installer.

This is a small part of a long post. The post as a whole does illustrate why the code of Steel Beasts needs to be rewritten to improve the ease of maintenance.
Even now we are at a crossroads about what to do for a patch release. It could have been last week, but we felt it would have been rushed. It could be this week (tomorrow) but always one more week would be better. But then, there might always be another week, and another week after that. When it comes to developing software, weeks can pass like days, days like minutes. In the end, very tough decisions must be made by those who thankfully aren't prone to panic, and those decisions are never taken lightly. So, the short answer here is, the patch will be ready soon, and it will always come with inherent risks. I guess we will see how that goes - maybe we can get lucky and make everyone happy, occasionally.

An interesting note: https://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/16817-patch-v-4377-only/#comment-233728
This happens rarely when humans are present to observe it (if there's no human player around and something weird happens with a civilian car of the Purple party somewhere up in the northeast, it might be the most astounding or frightening event, but we will never know). Which makes us believe that these things don't happen at all when maybe we're just blissfully ignorant. And then we happen to run across a freak event right after we updated a software, and to our brain it's absolutely clear that "the upgrade done it". And in all fairness, there is an elevated chance. But the trouble with rare freak events is that there's no economically feasible way to test for them.
You test as much as you can. If nothing happens, maybe it's because the code is safe. Maybe you just didn't come across the conditions that will reveal it. As a reminder, Steel Beasts is commercial grade software. It gets tested as much as we can afford it, so we don't feel like total frauds charging money for it. But every version of Steel Beasts released since about 2013 came with about 2,000 known bugs. Some of which you know, and even fewer about which you care. Every day we add a bug or two, and we fix a bug or three. Then, after releasing a version, we learn about the 5...20 bugs that we didn't know about, and we fix 4...15 of them in a subsequent patch, and the counter of known bugs jumps from 1997 to somewhere between 1998 and 2002 again.

A patch will be released before the weekend: https://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/16892-sb-pro-pe-4379/

Version 4.379 is released. I will make an announcement once it is clear whether there will be a patch in addition to a full installer.

I know it's tongue in cheek, but for those missing the snark:
This isn't how this works.
Version 4.3, now being "the stable branch", will no longer receive feature additions (it may still receive patches).
We've already begun working on version 4.4, which is now "the experimental branch".
By the time that it's time for a new PE release, we may have advanced the version count to 4.5, or 4.6 even.
4.499 could be followed by 4.4100. It hasn't happened in the last 20 years; typically we stop between the high 50s and mid 70s. Still, just because the counter reaches 99 doesn't mean it couldn't go to 100, 200, 900 even.
Also,
- there's no law that we must go through 4.5, 4.6, 4.7, 4.8, and 4.9 to reach 5.0
- there's no law that you will ever see 5.0; may well be that, to mature enough for a public PE release, it'll take until 5.2 or 5.3.
