WAW is a unique game concept which aims at simulating in one single system ALL conflicts throughout the world (and beyond) from Prehistoric times to nowadays, from grand massive wars to asymmetrical conflicts. And it will work also on non-historical, alternate history, fantastic or SF titles. The key is the use of a single system of rules and situations which works in all cases.

Why? Because we want players to learn rules only once, get confident and at ease with them, and then spend all their time with the titles in the collection in a speedy and effortless manner ... for example, the battle screen will be similar throughout the games, and thus will require almost no adaptation for enjoying it in a new game!

Practically, a few minutes are required to read about the specific properties and content of a new scenario and you can jump right in!

The Main Game Features includes:
•   Game is turn-based, using the I GO U GO system, each player taking one side (sides involve sometimes more than one nation).
•   The map is divided into numerous regions, with various terrains and sometimes structures (ports, fortresses, airports ...), and potentially sources of income when necessary.
•   When maintenance and purchase of forces is needed, or to acquire new event cards, a simple income system is activated.
•   Combat units may be from the land, naval or air domains. You will find different types, such as infantry, cavalry, artillery, guerrillas, submarines, flat tops, fighters, elephants, anti-aircraft batteries, etc ... All of which can be combined into different stacks for easy handling.
•   Leaders are crucial in the game, as they have three main usages: first they give bonus to the base combat values of their stacks, second their morale values are use to check victory or defeat levels, and lastly they are necessary to launch attacks on the enemy.
•   Two opposing stacks in the same region generate a battle, which is resolved in a semi-tactical way in two successive rounds. The game automatically calculates the various bonus and penalties of sides, their respective morale levels, allows for event cards play, and they each combat unit of each side shoots simultaneously (in most cases) at the enemy. Losses are taken in terms of hits and panics. The moral level of the initial army affected by the losses and panics suffered, which in turn may lead to rout, pursuit and breakthroughs.
•   Multiple Events Cards packs are granted to each side, that they will use to influence all aspects of the game, such as alliances, income, movement, weather, leadership, number and quality of troops and finally many tactical aspects for the battles. This ensures both a real uncertainty in the game and a great replayability potential.

The scale changes according to scenarios. A ground combat unit could be only a simple battalion or a whole army. A region may represent a few square miles or a whole country. And similarly, a game turn could be just a few hours or up to many years!

Game allows for coverage of different ‘spaces’ of play, such as land, sea, air or outer space…!

Basically, all titles in the Classic collection have a reasonable playing time and a limited number of units and cards, making them both fun and fast to play.

The Expanded collection is more ambitious, usually doubling the scope of the Classic one.

WAW essentially offers two collections, the Classic (short game play time, a hundred or so units, three dozens of event cards, a game map equivalent to about 2 game screens) and the Expanded (double size more or less from the Classic). Each collection will require a base pack to run (giving the engine, 3 games and the editor), and you will be able to get also thematic packs (4 games on the same topic / region) in addition to the independent game scenarios.

The base pack, WAW ‘CLASSIC’ is delivered with 3 different themes (and then dozens of DLCs):
•   HASTINGS 1066, opposing Normans, Vikings ands Saxons to claim the crown of England.
•   SARATOGA 1777, the battle that changed the course of the War of Independence.
•   NORMANDIE 1944, the most famous landing operation on the beaches of France.

The advanced pack, WAW ‘EXPANDED’ version of the engine offers larger maps, more units, generals, playing cards and events. It is delivered also with 3 themes:
•   AUSTERLITZ 1805, Napoleon’s most famous campaign;
•   BERLIN 1945, the fall of the Nazis against the Soviets;
•   KOREA 1950, the hottest conflict of the ‘Cold’ war!

Pricing and DLC Policy

Hi All

It semes we have made some wrong assumptions when designing or release offer and that created justified upset on the community.

We are at the moment checking with the publisher the changes required, but here are the great lines:

1 - Expanded Collection: the name was poorly chosen by us and we will make it contain all the classic and expanded DLCs, as people assumed that would be the case

NB: for those who bought already, Steam will upload automatically the missing scenarios and you should get them with the next update.

2 - DLCs: we put everything in the list, but due to the scope of them, the addition reached a financial amount that has looked frightening. Indeed, some DLCs added up in the price while they were already in packs, doubling up of sorts, so the unecessary ones will be removed (as already in the packs). And we'll make a a launch promotion on the extras to keep the tally low. (see 3 below too)

3 - Special Release Bundle: we are checking right now with Steam and publisher to make a special release bundle that will include everything, with an adapted price.

We hope this will clarify a bit the situation which we did not anticipate as being hard to grasp. That's the usual issue when a team is so much inside its project that it fails to see the point of view of outsiders. Plus the fact we are kind of 'newbies' here and not fully aware of the market's behaviors and habits.

Of course, while our publisher works on that point, the team stays focused on checking gameplay and issues that may be found.

Following the initial release feedback and return from players, we have modified our offer and added some precisions on unclear points.

Packs
You can have the Classic one with 3 small scenarios, or the Expanded one with 6 scenarios (including the 3 small and 3 bigger ones). Both come with the tutorial scenario too.

DLCs and Bundle Pack
We have added a special bundle pack that includes Expanded pack plus all available DLCs, for those who want to get everything.

Of course, like for many other games, no one is forced to buy ALL the DLCs, but those who want will get a special offer now.

Editor
The game will receive soon a free Editor. It will come as a tool here on Steam (Tools section).

With it you will get the 3 classic scenarios (and tutorial) sources, allowing you to experiment modding and getting experience to make your own future scenarios. Video assistance and support on our forum will follow suite.

Manuals
They are already included in the game with an ingame PDF viewer (Options section), but for those who prefer direct reading and access on their PC, here are download links of PDF sources.

8 MAY   - STRATEGIAE

Today's update holds a few code fixes and improvements (text fixes, useless tooltips in battle removed, some unecessary retreat arrows removed), plus quick bug chasing on siege phase.

Some setup and cards changes for Hastings1066 (addition of 16 new cards and units).

Ongoing events improvements in Normandy1944 to help new players (Allied side, supply help - German side, reinfrocements)

More this week. MAC version update on wednesday.

The Editor runs in English (default) and French languages. A manual (in French) is available on demand (we're working on improving it). Videos explaining how to use it are being done right now and should be available in a month or so.

Release of Congo 1964

The Congo 1964 DLC will be released today.

This game plunges you in the midst of the bloody 1964 Simba rebellion in eastern Congo and its crushing by the mercenaries of Marshal Mobutu. The Simbas want to control as much of the land as possible and to terrorize expatriates and civilians alike. The Congo government must eradicate the revolt, with the help of Belgian and American support, and also with its mercenaries. But beware of Che Guevara surprise intervention !

Also a few of the current DLCs (Normandy, Bulge, Six Days, Mali) have recently been updated and improved in the current build.

Finland 1918 is a simulation of the tragic Finnish civil war that follosw the crumble of Czarist Russa.

The Communists control the capital of Helsinki but Russian Soviet support won't last forever.

Facing them, the Nationalists led by Mannerheim would love to defeat the Reds without having to resort to German support, as the latter are keen on make Finland another of their vassals...

Finland 1918 lasts 14 turns of 10 days between January and May 1918. Two players are facing each other: the Communist partisans in the south of the country, backed by Petrograd, opposed to Nationalist militias of general Mannerheim in the north. The land is quite hard and armored trains are the best and strongest ways to move quickly between fronts.

•   The Russians, allied to the Communists, are about to leave but there are still a lot of Red troops, even if of poor quality.
•   The Nationalists have relatively good troops but may be encumbered by their German allies when the latter show up...

The game event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that their create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

Kavkaz 1804 is the story of the conquest of the Caucasus Khanates on the Persians by the Russian imperial forces between 1804 and 1813.

The Russian objective is to seize as many of these mountainous principalities with a limited but modern army.

The Persians, under their prince Abbas Mirza, have to reform their army with Western or Ottoman help to counter the Czar's ambitions.

Kavkaz 1804 lasts 16 turns each representing about 6 months between 1804 and 1811. It pits the Russians against the Persians in the midst of the Caucasus mountains.Forces of both sides are heterogeneous in quality, and both sides must rely on local Khanates for support and strengthening.

- The Russians have western-trained experienced troops, and many guns.

- The Persians have a large cavalry and a few strategic fortresses, but must achieve their army reform.

Morat 1476 is the story of the ‘War of Burgundy’, with the attempts of Charles the Bold to capture the key Duchy of Lorraine and nearby lands, and keep it against hisr adversaries. His foes, the Swiss Confederation and its Imperial allies, must beat and repel their enemy outside of Switzerland and eastern France and possibly seize for themselves the territories neighbouring their realm.

Morat 1476 is played in 24 turns, each representing two months, between Spring 1474 and Winter 1477.

Two players, Duchy of Burgundy and the Swiss Confederation, are facing each other in the Wars of Burgundy, at the end of the Middle Ages.


•   Charles the Bold’s Burgundians dream to create a unified realm in the middle of Europe, with the help of their small but balanced army, made of Gendarme knights, English archers and canons, as well as the alliance of Savoy and Italy.
•   The Swiss Confederation has almost no cavalry but their numerous pikemen and halberd are fearful and they can create an alliance with Lorraine and the Empire to humble Charles the Bold and his ambitions!

3 JANUARY   - STRATEGIAE

We would like to present our best wishes for the new year 2018 to all our gentle users and friends.

We shall give you more WAW games this year again, with a good dozen of new titles added to the collection, in all time periods and with unusual conflicts or long expected ones: among the list, Caesar campaigns in Gaul, British Empire wars, the Gulf War, a few 1918 conflicts (centenary celebration), Byzantium, WW2, warfare in Asia, and much more....

We'll have a completely new website up in a few weeks, and with more community work presented there.

We also plan to revise the whole offer and pricing in the coming weeks, where the initial package will be bigger and options to get season packs implemented, within the limits of what is possible here on Steam. Of course our initial supporters and users will receive some gifts and compensation from us as a reward for their initial support.

We shall intrdoduce also extra features very soon, including the Play-by-Email functionality and a vastly improved IA.

The collection will also go mobile in the first quarter of 2018.

Persia 1856 is the conflict between the British East India Company and the Shah of Persia, the former trying to compel the latter to remove his forces from Afghanistan.

The British objective consists in seizing enough strategic cities in southern Persia before European diplomatic pressure forces him to withdraw.

The Persian player should do his best to hold his opponent in check till European powers impose the ceasefire.

Persia 1856 lasts 12 turns, each of 2 weeks, between November 1856 and May 1857. One player controls the British East India Company forces and fleet. The second leads the army of the Shah of Persia.

- (Air Defense movement) Air units can only defend on Regions that contain allied units or an allied structure. This prevents potential exploit strategies where planes are used just to prevent the opponent from moving forward.
- (Air defense movement) It is no longer possible to place air units in defense in regions that do not contain allied land or naval units.
- (Air movement) Aerial units located into aircraft carriers can now automatically get out of the ships to intercept enemy air units (CAP).
- (Air movement) Anti-aircraft units now only inflict panics to moving units (except in land or naval battles where they act normally).

- (Land Movement) Units going out from structure on a region with difficult terrain were not able to move, even if the unit count was below the limit.
- (Naval Movement) Battle was not possible on a Sea region with income when the region was from the side of the player.

- (Naval battle) Fixed a bug where a naval battle was not started after an air battle, whereas the moving air units were able to attack a sea stack.
- (Land Battle) Fixed bug where an air stack alone could conquer a region by defeating a land stack.

- (Recon test) Fixed bug where hidden units made recon test when moving into another region (recon test can only be made by units without camouflage).

- (Reinforcements) Fixed bug where reinforcement units were not delivered if they were supposed to replace a target unit located inside a unit transporter.

- (Replacements) Fixed bug that allowed to purchase a replacement for wounded leaders.

- (Retreat) Fixed bug with retreat of defending air stacks.

- (Stack Viewer) Fixed bug where the "Entrench" button was not correctly displayed when the stack was already entrenched.
- (Stack Viewer) Fixed bug where units unloaded from a transport unit could still be displayed as beeing loaded.

- (UI) Fixed bug that hid part of aerial battles from the battles summary window.
- (UI) Long unit names were sometimes not fully displayed.
- (Unit delivery) Fixed issue where loading a save made after unit purchase and before delivery would cause the units not to be delivered.
- (Unit loading) Fixed bug that allowed to load units in any transport air unit anywhere on the map. Now only helicopters are able to load units outside of airports.

- (Unit loading) Fixed bug where units were not loaded correcty in their transport units in the case where several transporters were available.

- (Units) Fixed bug where Units initially entrenched at the start of a scenario would always be entrenched right after loading this scenario from a save.

Estonia 1918 covers the Estonian war of independence after the fall of Czarist Russia in 1918. The Estonian government must hold against the Soviet menace trying to recapture former Russian imperial provinces, but also against German troops trying to annex Latvia and its neighbour with the aim to settle for long in the Baltic states...

Estonia 1918 is played in 14 turns each representing a fortnight between November 1918 and June 1919. It opposes three players. The Estonian Independantists must repel the Soviet troops with the help of the British navy, then support the Latvian government against the Germans.
The Soviets must destroy the various Independants and capture both Tallinn and Riga while keeping the Germans at bay. The goal of the Germans is to annex Latvia while eliminating both the Soviets and Independants threats.
The game event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that their create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

Estimated Playtime: 1h30.
Favored Side: Germans.

Today we updated some content on a few scenarios, mostly languages additions or fixes, or game balance in some scenarios. Most important are:

* German language added in Estonia 1918 scenario
* Expanded scenarios: most game balance aspects reworked. In the expanded scenarios from now, the VP trigger deadline will be 30 or 40 VP, not 20
* Some cards effects fixed.
* Air AI fix for some scenarios
* Overall improvement of AI "plans" in expanded scenarios.

A more detailed announcement will be made on Wednesday, including the next game released this month.

With this month's release (Malaya 1941) we also added a few engine improvements, as follows:

*** IMPROVEMENTS ***
- (Battle) At the end of a Land or Sea Battle, the defender always loses if its only non-panicked units remaining on board are Air units while the attacker still has Land or Sea units.
- (Board) Added visual effect for situations where a unit stack is destroyed by a card.
- (Board) Unit stack now always have the color of the unit that it is displayed on top of it
- (Dogfight) FIxed message displayed at the end of a dogfight when no unit was hit, the previous one was confusing
- (Entrenchment) The entrenchment level of a stack is now indicated on the stack by repeating the entrechment icon (3 icons for High level, 2 for Medium and 1 for Low)
- (Helicopters) Helicopter units now stay in their current region, unless they are ordered to go back to their base or previous region after their current mission. This order is done using a new button that appears in the Stack Viewer when helicopters are selected. However, helicopters cannot stay in ennemy or sea regions.
- (Leaders) A leader that replaces another one killed in battle now arrives in the structure contained in the capital region, if it exists. Otherwise, it arrives in the region itself.
- (Reinforcements) Reinforcements triggered by cards can no longer be delayed by another card.

*** FIXES ***
- (Aerial back movement) Fixed bug where the game would be stuck in this phase due to helicopters not being able to get back to their base.
- (Aerial Defense Movement) Fixed bug that allowed to drop units in regions were they were not allowed to go during this phase.
- (Battle) Fixed bug where the game was stuck in the battle in some cases where panics had to be inflicted but no opponent could panic.
- (Cards) Fixed bug where a unit destroyed by a card effect would not actually be killed and stay on board (e.g. "Surface to Air Defense" in Mali 2012)
- (Cards) Fixed bug where cards designed to teleport units could not teleport units belonging to opponents of the card's owner
- (Cards) Fixed bug where cards designed to ignore the effect of the terrain on battle's stats had no effect
- (Entrenchment) Fixed bug where entrenchment level was not correctly read from scenario data
- (Movement) Moving into a region that contains enemy units located into a not-fortified structure no longer destroys these units. Instead, they automatically move out of the structure to fight if they can.
- (Movement) Fixed bug where units located in a structure and unable to move could be automatically added to battles.
- (Movement - Battle) Fixed bug where hidden units stayed hidden during battle while they don't have this capacity
- (Options) Fixed AI level option in main Menu and in-game menu : pressing the « Cancel » button would not cancel a modification of this level
- (Siege) Fixed bug where hidden units could besiege a structure (this is not allowed by the game rules)
- (Siege) Fixed terrain effect on sieges surrender value, defender's morale in battle and combat factor during pursuits
- (Six Days) Fixed bug where Arab planes destroyed by « Focus Operation » card would still be considered destroyed in subsequent Purchase phases.
- (Stack Viewer) Fixed some tooltips for action buttons.

*** SCENARIOS ***
- (Changes) Changed some entrenchment levels to work with new Entrenchment code in Berlin1945, Bulge1944, Normandy1944, Estonia1918, Finland1918, Tannenberg1914, Saratoga1777
- (AI): Allied/UN AI improved in Normandy1944, Korea1950
- (Game Balance): changed VP threshold for score victory in Expanded Scenarios.

Malaya 1941 covers the December 1941 invasion of the Malay peninsula and the air and naval campaigns around it.

The Japanese forces must capture Singapore and their offensive could be well stopped by the mighty 'Prince of Wales' battleship.

The British have to repulse the offensive or hold as long as they can.

Malaya 1941 lasts 17 turns, each representing on average 4 days, between the 8th December 1941 and the 15th February, 1942. It opposes the British and the Japanese over the Malay peninsula.

- The Japanese have 3 powerful veteran divisions and a strong air force, but their navy is puny.

- The British are on the defensive, with troops of dubious and varied quality. But their fleet, with 'HMS Prince of Wales' and possibly 'HMS Hermes' could make a difference.

The game event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that their create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

May Update - Start Testing PBEM in Beta

This month, while moving forward on the mobile version, we also brought a few fixes, in particular to the Beta version of the PBEM system.

It is operational, but the 'Summary' phase is still in the works, so you won't have report of your opponent's previous turn for now. Feel free to contact us by mail for more information or the PBEM short instruction's guideline.

** FIXES **

- (Movement) Fixed bug that allowed to send units to regions they are not allowed to enter using drag and drop from the Stack Viewer

- (Breakthrough) Fixed bug that allowed to send units to regions they are not allowed to enter

- (Battle) Fixed bug where double click on a unit to assign hits would cause the battle to be stuck in death phase. It is now impossible to assign a hit while the unit in performing its « wounded » animation.

- (PBEM) Fixed a bug that made it impossible to open a match save sent by the opponent
- (PBEM) Fixed a bug that allowed to play in the opponent's place during battles
- (PBEM) Fixed a bug at the "End Turn" phase, that allowed to play the opponent's turn instead of sending the current state of the match to him/her.

June DLC and Progress
Wars Across The World - Strategiae

We have released on June 1st the Koenigsberg 1945 DLC, an expanded scenario covering the Soviet offensive in early 1945 against East Prussia. It's an unusual scenario where the goal of the German defender is to evacuate as many refugees as possible and his Soviet opponent wins by preventing this...amidst the usual chaos of military operations.

In the meanwhile we keep on progressing on improving the game engine and its past and present content. Within 10 days a few updates will take place on existing scenarios and some minor bugs will also be fixed.

•   (Victory Conditions) Specific conditions defined in the scenario (e.g. control of a specified structure, elimination of a specified structure) are now prioritised over general conditions concerning victory points. If two players simultaneously.
fulfil specific victory conditions, the one with the highest VP count wins.
•   (End Game) Clarified the window that displays the victory conditions at the end of the game.

*** FIXES ***
•   (Aerial Movement) Fixed bug that allowed defeated or panicked planes to start a second mission during the same movement phase.
•   (Movement) Fixed bug that allowed to drop a unit into a structure it is not allowed to enter
•   (Movement) Fixed false battle detection in the case where a stack from side A was moved into a region belonging to side B without a stack, with the region containing a non-fortified structure and a stack belonging to A.
•   (Movement) Fixed bug where a land Stack was not allowed to attack a region if (i) the region was already attacked by an allied plane and (ii) the region contained a structure with allied land units
•   (Movement) Fixed bug where conquering a region with a friendly structure would kill the units in the structure.
•   (Movement) Fixed bugs that happened when splitting a stack and trying to move the split units to enemy structure or besieged friendly structures
•   (Movement) Fixed bug that left "phantom" stacks in regions after manual fusion of friendly stacks. This bug could cause battles where there was apparently only stacks from a single player.
•   (Sound Manager) Fixed bug that caused an infinite loop in the case where the music playlist contained no playable file
•   (Sound Manager) Fixed bug that prevented the engine from playing scenario's custom music
•   (Battle) Fixed bug where a stack automatically taken out of its structure to fight an incoming enemy stack would not include its leader.
•   (Battle) Fixed computation of Victory Points gained/lost at the end of a battle : the result was sometimes too high because eliminated Support Units and Leaders were taken into account in the step loss count, while only Combat Units have to be considered.
•   (Battle) Connexions taken by air units to reach a battlefield are no longer taken into account to calculate battle modifiers.
•   (Battle) Fixed bug where a battle was continually started in the same region even though no opposing forces was present.
•   (Battle) Fixed a bug where a battle was detected but never started, that happened when defending units were locked inside a structure by a card effect.
•   (Saves) Fixed bug where double-clicking on a save to load it would load the save twice, resulting in a broken setup of the map.
•   (Auto-saving) Fixed bug where quitting a scenario just after a battle and then launching the last save could result in an incorrect position of the units that were engaged in the battle.

Before release of our next scenario (Byzantium 1116 - see on our website), we have processed some previous scenario improvements.

Most important fix was Hasting 1066, with a new start setup. Other minor corrections on Waterloo 1815 (name errors), Normandy 1944 (setup) and austerliz 1805 were also added.

MAJOR UPDATE FOR WAW AND NEW DLC CONTENT
27 November - Strategiae

Effective today 19:00 PM GMT (allowing Steam update has taken place).

A lot of new features, improvements and fixes added to the game. With them, two new releases: Armada 1588 (the Mighty Armada) and Gulf 1990 (a large DLC scenario on Desert Storm).

And a gift: Innsmouth 1928 (a mod scenario created by one of our players on the 'Call of Ctulluh' universe).

Main Additions
- Fog of War added
- A Summary Phase added to give you details of previous player(s) turn
- A Battles details summary window has been added to the battle reports
- Combat factors of units may now be different in attack or defense.
- Units panel now has button to show the differences in combat values (domains, attack vs defense)
- The Unit panel will automatically adjust to the size of the stack
- When you did not move any unit in a phase, a confirmation is now required (to avoid skipping a phase by mistake)
- A new button has been added on the stack panel to allow easy split of units in stack
- Supply: when units are out of supply, they will not die immediately but in a certain number of turns as described on the unit information window (based on scenario time scale)
- The game tutorial has been completely revised to make it easier and more explicit for new players.

New Contents
- We propose 2 extra scenarios DLC with this update: Armada 1588 (Classic collection) and Gulf 1990 (Expanded collection), the later being one of our largest scenario so far.

•   (AI) Improved performances.
•   (AI) When AI send air units in operation, units with the exact same mission now move together instead of one-by-one.
•   (Battle Results) The list of battles now display the leaders for each side in each battle.
•   (Battle) Added battle summaries to the battle lists.
•   (Battle) Added support for Anti-Cavalry Units.
•   (Battle) Air units are not taken into account anymore to determine wether the big battle bonus (+3VP) is attributed to the winner.
•   (Battle) Battle phase titles are displayed for a longer duration which makes them easier to read.
•   (Battle) Combat units and leaders can now have a different combat factor depending on wether they are attacking or defending.
•   (Battle) Fixed broken localization of « Morale » in battle screen.
•   (Battle) The icon used to represent hits is now an explosion instead of a skull, which was confusing.
•   (Battle) The leaders are now chosen among leaders in the stack AND leaders transported in the stack. A leader who does not have the ability to move at sea can now command a naval battle if he is transported in one of the ships.
•   (Camera) When AI is playing, the camera position and zoom is automatically reset after all battles/sieges of the current turn have been played.
•   (Cards) New effect allows to forbid one side from performing hostile moves agains another one.
•   (End Game) Added Laurel Wreath to side flags to better show who has won the game.
•   (Info Window) When a structure is displayed, its full name is used as the window title instead of its short name.
•   (Info Window) When a unit is selected, it’s icon is now displayed in the title bar instead of being displayed in the background of the unit properties, which decreased readability.
•   (Localization) On first launch, the game is automatically set to the language of the system it runs on if this language is available in the localization. The setting can then be manually changed if needed and is remembered correctly on next launch.
•   (Localization) Improved message when user tries to draw a movement that requires more movement points than available.
•   (Main menu) New "Contact" button allows to send an email to the game developers.
•   (Main menu) New "Privacy Policy" window.
•   (Map) Added an indicator that a stack has popped up from its hots (structure or transport stack).
•   (Map) Decreased size of the active border zone that activates camera movements.
•   (Map) Implemented per-scenario Fog of War, with option in the main menu to disable it.
•   (Map) It is now possible to move the Map around even at minimal zoom factor, so that its borders are not hidden by UI elements.
•   (Aerial Defense Movement) Regions that can be defended are now colored in blue.
•   (Sea movement) Admirals are no longer allowed to enter a sea region if it does not contain any allied unit.
•   (Movement) Added a confirmation message when users presses the next phase button while no movable unit has been moved.
•   (Movement) Added explicit message when user tries to move a stack to a region it is not allowed to enter by the scenario.
•   (Movement) Added support for one-way connections between regions : it is now possible to design maps where some region boundaries can only be crossed in one way.
•   (Movement) For movements where only a part of the moved stack is able to make it to another region, a red warning is displayed to the user in the movement message. This helps avoiding unwanted splits that can leave the player in a bad situation (eg. with a leader alone that cannot get back to its troops).
•   (Movement) Improved error message displayed when a stack containing only leaders and support units tries to conquer a region (this is not allowed).
•   (Movement) Improved some messages indicating that the movement that the player is trying to start is not possible.
•   (Movement) New button in stack viewer allows to split the current stack by creating a new one containing selected units.
•   (Naval Battle) Added support for two-round naval battles in scenarios that require it.
•   (Income) Clearer layout of income details.
•   (Purchase) The Stack viewer is automatically closed when the phase begins so as to avoid it overlapping with the purchase toolbar.

•   (Supply) Stacks made only of supply units no longer consumes supply units in unsupplied regions.
•   (Tooltips) Improved position and behavior of tooltips.
•   (Transportation) It is now possible to load a unit with zero transport cost into another unit with zero transport capacity
•   (UI) Added camera and window animations when a siege is selected to be resolved.
•   (UI) Changed Player Hand Background : we now display the card back with transparency.
•   (UI) Improved behavior of windows that present a clickable list of elements that highlight a region (eg. battle list, siege list). Now the window is minimized when an element is clicked, instead of being faded out (which confused some users).
•   (UI) Increased size of units dragged from stack viewer and purchase toolbar.
•   (UI) Increased readability of details displayed when the player needs to select elements (units, stacks, regions, structures) on the Map. If this selections comes from a card, the name of the card is now displayed.

Armada 1588 is the story of the Spanish Invincible Armada created by King Philip II to crush Elizabethan England.

The Spaniards must meet with their strong land forces in Flanders and then land them in England to seize London.

The English may count on their great Sea Hounds such as Drake and Hawkins to repel the Armada from the British Isles and thus save the crown.

Armada 1588 is a naval campaign of 10 turns each representing about 4 days, between the 26th of July and the 8th of September 1588 AD. It is set for 2 players: Spaniards versus English, around the British Isles. Forces of both sides are quite different and varied.

- The Spanish Armada is enormous, but its admirals are not great strategists.
- The English are less numerous, but their high seas warships are commanded by proven captains.

Gulf 1990 describes the initial assault of Saddam Hussein's Iraqi troops against Kuwait, and the following options that follow.

Irak may play for time, or else invade immediately after Saudi Arabia.

The Coalition must absolutely repulse the Iraqi onslaught and remove their forces from occupied Kuwait.

Gulf 1990 is made of 21 turns of 10 days, between August 1990 and February 1991. One player has the Iraqi armed forces led by Saddam Hussein, the other takes the international coalition led by the United-States.

- Iraq holds the initiative, as once they have captured Kuwait, it can either play for time by holding long enough to win, or try an all-out victory by follow-up invasion of Saudi Arabia straight to Riyadh.

- The Coalition must strive to bring as many reinforcements as possible in the minimum of time to hold against and then repulse the Irakian army.

The threat to use chemical weapons is permanent...and dangerous for both sides.

Rhodesia 1972 is the story of the isolated white rule in Rhodesia, trying to establish a stable and lasting state against the black rebels supported by Communist powers.

The Rebels will try to unbalance the white population's morale by infiltrating as many fighters group inside the borders as possible.

The Rhodesian forces will have to repel them and hold their morale till the elections of 1979.

Rhodesia 1972 lasts 18 turns each representing about 6 months between end of 1972 and early 1980. One player is the white settlers ruling Rhodesia, diplomatically isolated. The other has the various rebel groups, such as the ZANLA supported by Mao and the ZIPRA backed by the USSR.

- Forces are asymmetrical, as even if the Rhodesian are few in numbers, they are the only ones to have an air force and their special units are excellent.

- The Rebels are quite numerous and all around Rhodesia, extending the number of front lines, but their power is rather limited.

The population morale level is essential as if it falls too low, the Rhodesian player loses the game.

In April 1519, Hernαn Cortιs lands on the Gulf of Mexico coastline at the head of a Spanish expedition from Cuba, where he establishes the city of Villa Rica de Vera Cruz. Local population welcome is warm, as they see him as the envoy of the god Quetzalcσatl (the famous feathered serpent). Emperor Moctezuma had many dreams that forecasted the arrival of the divine envoy, so he is benevolent and fearless, sending ambassadors with gold presents, which only manage to excite the envy of the conquistador.

This is the beginning of the adventure!

This scenario lasts 14 turns, each of 2 months between April 1519 and August 1521. It opposes the Conquistadors led by Cortιs to the peoples and warriors of the Aztec Empire. This epic conquest is played both on the map for the strategic and military aspects on the one hand, and through the play of cards (2 drawn each turn per side) for the political, diplomatic and religious aspects on the other hand.

Indeed, the two sides fight for different reasons and on different ways: war of conquest and annihilation for the Spaniards, a religious war aiming at taking prisoners for the Aztecs.

Can the Conquistadors conquer such a powerful empire with so few men?

Sicily 1943 covers the 12 weeks of the 'Husky' landings of July 1943, pitching the Anglo-American troops against Axis armies for the conquest of Sicily. The goal of the Allies is to capture completely the island. The Axis must prevent the conquest or at least ensure that enough good troops can get evacuated from the island if they can't push back the enemy to the sea.

Sicily 1943 lasts 12 turns, each representing on average 1 week, between July and September 1943. It opposes the Axis to the Anglo-American Allies over Sicily.

•   The Axis is on the defense, behind their coastal bunkers and have some strong Panzer reserves.
•   The Allies must gain air superiority and land on Sicily to conquer it completely.

Switzerland 1937 is the simulation of a fictive civil war in Switzerland, based on the unfinished and unpublished novel 'Eternal War'.§§It's the history of a Europe that never could recover from World War One and the Great Depression. In most European countries, conditions prevailing are tantamount to civil war. Radicalism, decline of democratic values and violent riots are ordinary in many countries. Encouraged by Franco's rebellion in Spain, the anti-democratic, conservative-catholic 'Eidgenφssischer Bund' starts an uprising to transform Switzerland into a corporative-autocratic state.

Supported by various right-wing conservative factions, the Rebels have to seize power in Switzerland.
The Government must maintain control over the important cities and economical centers, in order to defeat the insurgents.

Switzerland 1937 is a campaign lasting 16 turns each representing a few days between January and March, 1937. It opposes the Government and the Rebels over Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
•   The Government's initial situation is superior in strategic and economic views, but their only combat ready units consist of decentralized, poorly equipped policemen. They must hold the line until the regular army can be mobilized.
•   The Rebels have powerful and motivated irregulars, but no supply and no financial backing. They have to seize control of important economic centers to continue their fight.

Spain 1936 relates the story of one of the toughest conflict in the pre-World War II era, depicting the Civil War that tore Spain apart from 1936 to 1939. The Nationalists must capture the whole of the peninsula, and in particular Madrid and Barcelona. The Republican player must repel the rebellion with the help of International forces and Soviets, and may be ultimately crush the Nationalists. But beware of Stalin's change of mind...

Spain 1936 lasts 24 turns, each representing one month between July 1936 and December 1938. One player represents the Spanish Republicans various factions, the other has the Nationalists and their allies forces.

•   The Nationalists have numerous but dispersed land forces at the start of the game, and their reinforcements from the Fascist regimes are impressive.
•   The Republicans must first hold desperately against the initial revolt, waiting for International and Soviet aids to alter the course of events.

Be careful however of the political instability of the Republic, as well as Stalin's duplicity, this may lead that side to lose many valuable assets...

Fornovo 1495 is the story of the first 'War of Italy', with the expedition of French king Charles VIII against Naples.

The French objective is to capture the key city of Naples and keep it against their adversaries.

Their foes, the Italian League, must beat and repel the French armies outside of Italy by setting up a large coalition with the Papacy, Spain, Venice and Milan.

Fornovo 1495 is played in 15 turns, each representing a fortnight, between August 1494 and October 1495. Two players, France and the Italian League, are facing each other in the First War of Italy, at the start of the Renaissance.

- The French have an impressive army made of knights, Swiss pikemen and guns.

- The Italian League is quite weak at the beginning, but thanks to the crafty diplomacy of Pope Alexander VI Borgia, it will be able to create a large force able to push the French out of Italy.

Be careful to some turncoat Italian states that can switch sides at any time!

The May release (ok, we know, it's June and we are late!) is showing up tomorrow, taking the players to the First Anglo-Afghan war, in 1842.

The troops of the British East India Company will attempt to install by force a ruler favorable to their interests in Afghanistan, while the local Afghan Tribes will resist the move.

Will the attempt end in disaster, like historically? Or will YOU, as head of the British expedition, succeed in your mission?

Gandamak 1842 is a simulation of the 'First Anglo-Afghan War', a failed attempt by the British Empire to vassalize Afghanistan.

The British must capture Kabul, setup their puppet ruler there and maintain themselves in the country.

The Afghan must repulse the invaders, isolating their garrisons and pushing the tribes to revolt. The rough terrain, weather and hard supply will play a crucial role.

Gandamak 1842 is a campaign lasting 16 turns each representing about a quarter January 1839 and December, 1842. It opposes the British East India Company and the Afghan tribes.

- The British army has the best troops and most numerous ones at the start of the campaign,

- while the Afghans are made of expert mountain guerrillas.

Supply and weather issues will make the campaign extremely hard on the British in this hard country...

Naval
•   (Naval movement) Entering and leaving a port does not consume Movement Points anymore.
•   (Blockades) Now only combat units can trigger blockades

Air
•   (Air movement) An attacking stack can now contains both units with a battle mission and with units with a strategic bombing missions. Bombing units will not participate in the battle, they will remain in the attacked region until strategic bombing has been performed.
•   (Air Battle) All battle-specific combat factor modifiers are now ignored when a unit fights in the Air domain
•   (Strategic bombing) It is now possible to set the strategic bombing status of units individually. Previously, only stacks containing only bombers could be given a strategic bombing mission. It is now also possible to deactivate strategic bombing for units after is has been activated, including when those units have reached their destination.
•   (Strategic bombing) Removed bombing animation for bombers sent to regions with no income value - which means that there is nothing to bomb there

More DLCs

New DLC added to the game
In September we released Uganda 1979, and last month we moved to Burma in 1942. The team continues to add new DLC on known and less-known conflicts. Two more are coming this year, also interesting thematics.

Our plan is also to make some game update before New Year, adding some fixes and extra features (e.g. possibility to assault forts, or to capture some enemy units).

Burma 1942 is the recreation of the Japanese onslaught against Burma in the first months of 1942. Four Japanese divisions, supported by their Thai allies must conquer the whole of Burma before Monsoon sets in. The British must defend their colony at all costs, and more specifically the road to Lashio, the only land connection the Nationalist China.

Burma 1942 lasts 18 turns, each of one week between 8th January and 7th June 1942. Axis and Allies face each other.
•   Two divisions of the Japanese 15th army are attempting to capture most of Burmese territory before the start of the monsoon season in June. Depending on the surrender of Singapore and Java, other divisions will shore up the army. Thai allies and Burmese rebels can be useful supplementary forces
•   The British forces are quite weak at start, but the influx of many Chinese Nationalists reinforcements may prove decisive, despite their intrinsic weaknesses and low quality.

New Features and Fixes

DECEMBER 2019 UPDATE
This important update was made essentially to fix a few known issues but also to allow for gameplay improvement for new features that will be progressively used in the upcoming 2020 title, or, when updated, retrofitted inside the existing ones.

*** IMPROVEMENTS ***

•   (Regions) Added support for new feature : possibility to define nations as default owners of regions
•   (Map) Implemented new Information Anchors (e.g. useful to display extra critical information as a graphic icon)
•   (Movement phase) The confirmation dialog displayed when going to next phase without any movement can now be dismissed permanently.
•   (Replacements) Implemented a system allowing to schedule replacements through the Reinforcement system without need to use cards.
•   It is no longer possible to assign replacements to stacks that are not currently in a supplied region
•   (Structures) Added per-structure option to limit the number of units that can enter a structure (leaders excluded from the count)
•   Added optional system that allow fortresses to reclaim control of their region if no enemy force occupies it, or if there are only enemy leaders/support units present in the said region.
•   (Reinforcements) Added scenario option to hide AI's reinforcements
•   (Summary) Casualties tab now displays Leaders killed or wounded in battle.
•   
•   (Battle) Implemented new rule allowing to start a fortress assault (resolved by a battle with specific combat factor modifiers) instead of besieging the structure. Assaulted fortresses have a default garrison to defend them, added to the regular units that maybe already be in fortress.
•   (Battle/Siege) Implemented unit capture system (e.g. will be useful to capture supply wagons or other units)
•   (Battle) Implemented optional rule to ignore the Differential of Leader Morales when computing battle modifiers
•   (Battle) Implemented optional rule to ignore the Differential of Leader Combat Factors when computing battle modifiers
•   (Battle) Implemented optional rule to ignore the regular loss differences Victory Points awarded by battles (only VP awarded by regions and structures capture and/or cards are kept)

*** FIXES ***

•   (FOW) Fixed bug where the tooltip for units made invisible BY FOW was still displayed
•   (Cards) Fixed bug where launching a game from a save reset the max number of cards in hand to the engines default value instead of the value specified in the scenario
•   (Movement) Fixed a bug that made it difficult to move a stack into a structure already containing units.
•   (Battle) Fixed localization erros in the retreat message
•   (Siege) Fixed a bug where a fortified structure taken by siege would incorrectly keep its blockaded status.
•   (Options) Fixed a bug that prevented from changing the AI level in In-Game options
•   (Initialization) Players are now created in an order that corresponds to the play order of Sides. Fixes potential bugs and fixes known bug where the second player would get a wrong match identifier if the sides definition and play order do not match with those specified in the editor.

an extra function to reduce FPS on powerful machines

** IMPROVEMENTS **
- (Graphics) Added options setting to enable VSync
- (Graphics) If VSync is disabled, the target frame rate for the game is set to 60. Previously, the game would run at maximum allowed FPS, which would be unnecessary on powerful configurations.

NB: activating Vsync reduces visual artifacts (screen tearing) but may slightly reduce game reactivity. This could be problematic on older machines or those with little RAM.

Nordwind 1945 accounts the last German offensive in the west. The Germans have entered Alsace from the north and are trying to reach the center of the Vosges mountains at Saverne, pushing back American and French forces. The Allies shall try initially to contain, then repulse the enemy, in the midst of one of the most severe winter of the period in this area.

Nordwind 1945 lasts 12 turns, each representing 2 days, between the 31st December 1944 and the 26 January 1945. One player controls the German forces of the Wehrmacht and SS, the other the Allied forces from the United States and France.

•   The German side is operating under the cover of fog, and then will benefit of its technological advances such as the first military jet, the Me 262, to keep on progressing.
•   The Americans must hold theirs positions to contain the enemy advance, and later repulse them with the help of the French troops.
•   The game event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that they create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

Some game engine changes and fixes In anticipation to this month's release (Caesar 58, coming on April 30th)


*** IMPROVEMENTS ***

•   (Retreat) When several regions are possible, the game now selects the one that would cause the minimum amount of unit destructions (because of units that cannot follow the others or of overstacking in difficult regions).
•   (Retreat) Attacking Sea stacks can now retreat to a port if they just get out of
•   (Retreat) Units that cannot retreat using the locomotion type between battle region and chosen retreat region are now destroyed
•   (Fortress Assaults) Assaulting a weakly defended fortress no longer wrongly gives combat factor bonus to the attacker and malus to the defender. It's set to zero on both sides.
•   (Replacements) Improved realism : replacements are no longer possible for air and sea units that are not inside a structure or a transporter. It is now possible to assign replacements to units that are currently inside transport units.

Battle of the Coral Sea Anniversary

This was 78 years ago (4th to 8th May 1942)
Coral Sea 1942 covers the May 1942 Japanese invasion attempt of Port Moresby, New Guinea, and the air and naval campaigns around it. The Japanese forces must capture Port Moresby and establish bases in the Solomon islands, but their offensive could be well stopped by the Allies naval and air forces. The American and Australian have to prevent the Japanese from achieving their objectives, without losing too much of their meagre resources.

Caesar 56BC relates the third Campaign of Caesar in Gaul, in the region of Armorica (modern-day Brittany). The Roman objective is to crush the Venetii tribe, sinking its fleet and capturing their fortresses. The Gallic player, with his mighty fleet, must repulse the enemy and prevent the capture of his harbors.

Caesar 56BC lasts 14 turns, each of 2 weeks, between April and November 56 BC. The Romans and facing the Venetii, a tribe from Armorica in Western Gaul.

•   The Roman player must crush the opposing land forces while at the same time building a fleet strong enough to overcome the powerful Venetii fleet and seize their fortified harbors.
•   His opponent must prevent this, using various potential diversions and, possibly, a potential recall of Caesar to Rome.

The game's event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that they create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

Columbus 1492 is played in 36 turns each representing 4 months between May 1492 and April 1504.

In single-player mode only, the player takes over the role of the famous navigator Christopher Columbus and must try to discover and colonize the new world while he has the strength to do so.

The difficulties will be numerous, whether they come from weather hazards, hostile tribes, obsequious courtiers or even Portuguese competitors...

Kippur 1973 allows to replay the Arab-Israeli war of October 1973. The Arab side, mostly Egypt and Syria, attacks Israeli troops by surprise simultaneously in the Sinai and the Golan, to get a foothold again on their land claims. Israel must hold and then counter-attack to obtain victory.

Kippur 1973 lasts 19 turns representing each one day between October 6th and 24th, 1973. The two sides facing each other are, on the one side the Arab Alliance made of Egypt and syria, with the assistance of other brother countries (Irak, Morroco, Sudan...) and, on the other side, Israel.
The Arabs will launch two simultaneous but separate offensives during the festivities of Kippur, one in the Sinaο and the other in the Golan.
The Israeli player, initially taken by surprise, will have to defend the borders.

The initial Arab onslaught is rather violent, but Israel central location allows for a more flexible choice in reinforcement allocation. Impact on air forces, SAM missiles and the Suez canal are keys to the game.

The game's event cards allow full replay ability thanks to the numerous various situations that they create on the diplomatic, military, political or economical fields.

Korea 1592 relates the story of one of the toughest conflict in the end of the 16th century, depicting the invasion of the Joeson kingdom of Korea by the Japanese. The Japanese must capture possibly the whole of the peninsula from their Busan foothold in the South. The Korean player must repel the invasion with the help of China...

The largest WAW game ever made (and also on the Imjin war) : 40 turns, 300 regions, 700 units, 172 cards....

Korea 1592 lasts 40 turns, each representing two weeks month between June 1592 and December 1593. One player represents the Samurai armies of Japan's master Hideyoshi, the other has the Koreans, with Joeson Koreans and Ming Chinese forces.

•  The Japanese have very numerous land forces at the start of the game, but their navy is weak and poorly led.

•  The Korean player must first hold desperately against the initial invasion, waiting for Chinese reinforcements, local rebellion, and most of all his powerful navy to alter the course of events.

Keeping forces in supply will prove the decisive factor

Minor Code Update: disappearing Air Units fix

An occasional and unfrequent bug leading to the disappearance of air units after battle, during the return to base phase, has been found and fixed. Planes shall no longer vanish if they can find an eligible airfield within range.

They will still disappear when none is rachable, either because the said arifield(s) is/are full or is/are out of range of the plane(s).
