Strategic Command: World War I - Empires in Turmoil - Dev Diary #1

Last year, after the release of American Civil War brought the Strategic Command series well and truly into the 19th century, we received a great amount of community feedback asking us to revisit the Franco-Prussian War, a conflict first included in Strategic Command 2s WWI release. With the American Civil War engine being designed for that period of history, we agreed that it would be the perfect time to explore this conflict again, and thus the 1870 Blood and Iron campaign was born.

However, the Franco-Prussian War is far from the only conflict included in Strategic Command 2 that would be interesting to revisit. Five of these campaigns, as well as one covering a conflict weve never covered before in the Second Balkan War, will make up our new DLC for Strategic Command WWI: Empires in Turmoil.

Linear Area Defense [4.377] 0.7.1 by Arch


1986 May 16, 1900

1) SITUATION:
a) Enemy:
ENY mechanized battalion is moving south along improved roads and cross country with intent to break through BLUFOR positions. Recon indicates ENY reinforced by tanks.

b) Own:
BLUFOR mechanized company equipped with M113 PC, M113 ATGM and infantry ATGMs have assumed hasty defense.

c)
One battery of mortar carrier and one platoon of TOW is attached to HHC. Dragon ATGM and .50 HMG teams attached to Alpha CO and XO. Recon trucks with AGL and scouts are available.

2) MISSION:
Mechanized company is to prevent ENY from controlling key terrain HOTEL and GOLF.

3) EXECUTION:

a) Concept of Operation:
Company is to use superior optics and range of ATGMs to engage ENY armor outside of their envelope. Once enemy breaches PL Arrow ATGMs are to fall back and engage ENY in tandem with entrenched infantry.

i) Maneuver:
Company commander is free to maneuver as they see fit, but will not abandon key terrain HOTEL and GOLF.

Mobile Defense [4.379] 0.7.0 by Arch


1987 February 2 1500

1) SITUATION:
a) Enemy:
Battalion size ENY armor unit is attempting to force a movement to contact engagement with our vanguard force. Force composition mainly tanks with approximately a company of PCs attached.

b) Own:
Cavalry armor company- is to destroy ENY at EA BUTCHERY via a mobile defense accomplished by suppression with artillery fires followed by counterattack.

c) Two batteries of battalion artillery in support. Cavalry scouts provide observation.

2) MISSION:
Armor company has been tasked to destroy an ENY force initially believed to be company size. ENY leading element is to be funneled into disadvantageous terrain, suppressed and destroyed before it can be supported by follow elements.

3) EXECUTION:

Intent: Inflicting maximum attrition on the ENY force. BLUFOR casualties are to be minimized.

a) Concept of Operation:
