Bohemia Interactive Simulations Awarded U.S. Marine Corps Contract

Orlando, Fla. — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) has been awarded a contract to deliver enhancements to and support for its desktop tactical trainer Virtual Battlespace 3 (VBS3) to the U.S. Marine Corps.
VBS3 is a 3D desktop virtual training environment that enables Marines to train on geo-specific, high-fidelity terrains, familiarize themselves with equipment they use in the field, develop leadership skills and practice adaptable, tactical decision making.

The $12.3 million, five-year contract was an extension of BISim’s previous three-year contract with the U.S. Marines to deliver enhancements to VBS3, which is used as a training environment for Marines’ learning tactics, techniques and procedures across the globe.

“The Marines recognized they had made a significant investment in VBS3 technology and, ultimately, saw opportunities to continue improving on that investment,” said John Givens, BISim's president of U.S. operations. “The U.S. Marine Corps have taken interest in a number of new products in the works at BISim, which will further enhance the Marines' training capability.“

The U.S. Marine Corps were early adopters of VBS and purchased an enterprise license of VBS1 in 2006 with an upgrade to VBS2 upon release. Following delivery of the VBS2 Virtual Training Kit to the U.S. Marines in 2008, VBS2 was rolled out later that year to all Marine simulation centers and on all DVTE laptops.
