Battle Of the Bulge for iOS by Shenandoah Games
« on: September 02, 2015, 04:06:27 AM »
I just bought (invested USD9.99 in) a copy for my iPad Air. My real first introduction to wargaming. I read 10 different reviews of the game before I took the plunge.

Anyone wanna spar online? I'm a newbie at this, and will be glad to be cannon fodder. Harhar.
BTW, the entire Crisis In Command series (Battle of the Bulge, Drive on Moscow, Desert Fox: El Alamein) is due to for an update, starting with an improved BoTB in September 2015.

Cheers, Frankie Kam

This is sad. I never saw the Battle Of The Bulge upgrade as breaking the game. Until I read this post on Slitherine's forum. Hopefully Slitherine rectifies the problems of the BoB upgrade. To be honest, I didn't notice any sluggishness in the upgrade. I did notice that the Game Centre notification of asynchronous games is missing. I did enjoy the fact that they included the Designer's Guide and other AI personalities, which in the previous version of BoTB were in-app purchases.

The good news is Slitherine and Shenandoah Games are working on the fixes and another update (to fix the September 2015 update) is in the works. The bad news is that because the game has been re-written from the ground up to cater for multi-platform multiplayer, they won't be bringing back the seamless 'almost real-time' asynchronous turn-based multiplayer that links to Apple's Game Center. Previously it took just a second to see a notification, tap an icon and make a multiplayer move. Now that takes up to 30 seconds thanks to Sliterine's multiplayer system which includes an E-mail notification. Sigh. Forum on BoTB bugs/fixes/complaints/feedback  is here.

This is better news. Developer Slitherine working on a build to address the bugs. It is so nice to see the hardcore wargamers and the developers working hand-in-glove. The hardcore wargamers scream blue murder that the latest update has downgraded (some say 'broken') their beloved $10 iPad perfect wargame, and the developers work at break-neck speed to solve many bugs in a short space of time. It's a kind of symbiosis. No way Slitherine can slither away and leave their legion of fans in the lurch. Their programmers must be not human, almost half-human half-reptilian to crack so many bugs three days after the release of the September update to Battle Of The Bulge.

Hi Frankie

Slitherine and Matrix are one and the same....Check the Matrix forums. Not everyone is happy with the state of their games :(

Matrix World in Flames to name one.

Hi,

The necro is back LOL!

Seriously, just picked this up yesterday with some other goodies which Iīll check out later.

I personaly like it beacuse itīs easy to play, if you leave it aside for a while which usually happens to most when you have alot of games, this one is easy to pick up again.  That said, not beacuse itīs easy means that itīs easy to win, which is a good thing.  You can just jump in and play a scenario without having to remember a bunch of key stroks and all that, you no what I mean. It looks quite nice to me and itīs fast overall, you donīt have to wait a minute of time in order for individual battles to finish, in a nut shell itīs fast paced which is also good.  Another good thing is itīs cheap, depending where you get it, very cheap! At Matrix itīs about 9€ for the PC version for example.

Hereīs some game play...

Care,

Red
