ASP3D Beta RC1 Posted
November 5, 2020

B7613 has been posted! This update brings new P3D v5.1 and EA-mode integration and enhancement features to ASP3D.

The update is available to all current ASP3D OPEN BETA Participants who signed up for an ASP3D account before October 10, 2020. This build serves as our first Release Candidate in preparation for final official release very soon.

Please continue to post bug reports and feedback at our ASP3D Open Beta forum as usual. Remember to include as much information as possible including logs, screenshots and duplication steps if possible, so that we can identify and resolve things as efficiently as possible.

Note that EA mode, while greatly improved in P3D v5.1, still has certain limitations and issues which are outlined in the updated User’s Guide (EA Mode Limitations chapter) and should be reviewed by all. We expect limitations and issues to be improved/resolved with the expected P3D updates from Lockheed Martin, coupled with our planned ASP3D improvements designed to take advantage of these updates.

RC#1 Changelog
•   P3D 5.1 integrated
•   P3D 5.1 EA Mode enhancements and depiction tuning
•   P3D 5.1 EA Mode enhanced integration with modified cloud visual parameters
•   P3D 5.1 EA Mode visibility smoothing implemented
•   P3D 5.1 EA Mode effective surface visibility increase for more expected visibility results
•   Added new option “Disable EA volumetric cloud control” – Default OFF – When OFF, ASP3D controls the parameters available in the new volumetricclouds.cfg for improved visual experience – When ON, ASP3D does not control control or affect these parameters – Turn this option ON if you wish to use customized volumetricclouds.cfg modifications
•   Fixed potential interpolation issue related to high-elevation airports and temperature
•   Fixed VATSIM METAR fetching issue

ASP3D RC2 Posted! With P3D 5.1+HF1 support
November 19, 2020

RC2 has been posted and is now available at our downloads page!

This is available for all existing ASP3D Open Beta participants who have already registered and activated their ASP3D account prior to October 10, 2020. We expect official release very soon.

Thanks to all who have participated in the Open Beta! Please report any remaining bugs/issue via the ASP3D Open Beta Forum ASAP.

Changelog
RC #2 – November 19, 2020
•   P3D compatibility updates
•   Fixed P3D v5.0 compatibility problem causing simconnect version mismatch errors
•   Redesigned EA-mode depiction and interpolation logic to provide more accurate and expected results – Requires a flight plan to be loaded so proper priority is placed on your departure/destination airports and wx stations vs. other airports/stations in adjacent areas with potentially differing weather – NOTE: In EA-Mode, EA cloud depiction expected will be shown in Conditions screen (METAR decoded text) under the raw interpolated conditions METAR string – These conditions can differ due to EA mode depiction implementation and limitations as well as timing of visual weather updates
•   Changed EA-mode thunderstorm/CB synthesis for better depiction results
•   Changed EA-mode Cirrus generation/synthesis to use lower coverages (few and sct) to reduce gridding visual cloud draw issues with EA mode
•   Fixed EA-mode potential cloud layer conflict issues which could create wx UI errors in P3D or lead to unexpected no-cloud (clear skies) depiction
•   Added LTFG and SCQP stations to data servers (to see this change, you may need to update your station database via station tool, set station type = weather stations, press reset to defaults button)
•   Installer adjustments to prevent potential revision issues
•   Attempted improvements to all EA mode volumetric cloud parameters for reduced grid effect – This will be consistently changed/improved along with new expected P3D builds
•   Adjusted EA stratus cloud volumetric cloud parameters for reduced grid effect at all coverages by attempted stratocumulus perlucidus appearance

NOTE: For ASCA compatibility, ASCA SP3 Build 7471+ must be installed. Update to this build available from our downloads page at https://hifisimtech.com/downloads – a clean install (via uninstall/remove saved data/reinstall/update) is recommended to avoid any content conflict issues with the new P3D add-on folder configuration.

ActiveSky P3D Released!
December 1, 2020

ActiveSky P3D is the latest weather engine from HiFi Simulation Technologies, providing dual P3D v5/v4 integration with advanced Enhanced Atmospherics (trueSKY) features!

Advanced EA features include cloud scene smoothing via EA smooth theme reloads, visibility and volumetric fog smoothing, EA-tuned depiction and transition handling for the best balance of accuracy and smoothness, ASP3D-controlled EA volumetric cloud configuration (optional), and dynamic EA cloud movement control for the best EA experience possible.

While EA mode has received a lot of attention, non-EA mode is also fully supported and expanded with many improvements in general weather synthesis and depiction based on feedback over the past years.  ASCA continues to be fully supported (with ASCA SP3) for fully dynamic non-EA cloud and sky graphics content integration.

P3D add-on folder specification compliance has also been added to ASP3D, keeping all items out of the P3D folders to aid in a clean installation and upgrade process.  Other technology improvements include internal direct networking communications, no longer requiring SimConnect networked configuration for running different components on different machines over a network, and a new universal XGauge design that works for all aircraft without needing specific panel installation.

Many additional improvements and features are included in ASP3D, taking the P3D weather simulation experience further than ever before.  But the work is not done!  Continuous improvements focusing on EA, visuals, and realism are planned to coincide with new P3D versions expected by the Prepar3D Development Team.  As always, this new version represents a huge step forward, but is only part of our never-ending efforts to constantly improve weather for desktop flight simulation.

ASP3D went into OPEN BETA testing in May 2020, available to previous licensed ASP4 customers.  ASP3D OPEN BETA signups were originally intended to end by July but were extended to October 10th 2020.  All those who signed up in the OPEN BETA by creating an ASP3D user account during the OPEN BETA signup period were provided a complementary free upgrade to the official released version. Those OPEN BETA ASP3D accounts will remain in full effect indefinitely, automatically converted to official ASP3D customer user accounts.

Previous ASP4 customers who did not participate in the OPEN BETA, and previous AS16 (FSX or P3D) users are eligible for a discounted upgrade price of over 35% off the regular standard price.

To learn more about ASP3D or to download now, visit the ASP3D product page https://hifisimtech.com/asp3d/

ASP3D Update #1 Open Beta B7660 Posted
December 21, 2020 by admin

Update #1 B7660 includes several fixes and improvements, focusing on some post-release stability issues found as well as improved EA cloud visual details via a new configurable option.

This update is being posted as an Open Beta for those who wish to try it before it is deemed stable and official. Please post bug reports via our ASP3D forum.

Download Update #1 Open Beta (B7660) from our downloads page!

Update #1 – December 21, 2020

– [12/21/20] New ASConnect changes in attempt to solve remaining occasional stability issues or 2562 error in some cases

– [12/21/20] Adjusted precipitation logic to resolve some occasional cases of unexpected no precipitation depiction in areas of terrain and low clouds

– [12/21/20] Added new “Attempt automatic removal of ASCA content and repair of content locations” to accompany any old ASCA content error issues – When choosing YES to attempt automatic removal/repair, ASP3D will attempt to restore things to a proper default state, and may cause existing add-on entries to be removed, so re-installation or re-activation of clouds/sky content may be needed after performing this step

NOTE: In some cases, a P3D CONTENT item reinstall may be needed for full repair of associated clouds/sky content

– [12/13/20] Added new detailed EA cloud style (vs soft) which can be enabled via the new “Enable detailed EA clouds” option

– [12/13/20] Updated the weather theme/METAR handling for better EA consistency, reporting and accuracy

– [12/13/20] Attempted fix for as_connect_v5.dll sim crash

– [12/13/20] Forced minimum 5.1.12 (HF1) P3D 5.1 version (as per official requirements) to prevent some potential stability and depiction issues in 5.1.8 version

– [12/13/20] Fixed some ASCA-related integration issues – Now requires ASCA Update 121220 (B7651) or later, available from https://hifisimtech.com/downloads

– [12/13/20] Added ASCA version check and warning if ASCA must be updated for proper ASP3D integration

– [12/13/20] Added old ASCA location content check and error if any ASCA content is found in the simulator installation location, which is incompatible with ASP3D and later ASCA updates – If this occurs, ASCA must be uninstalled and the latest version reinstalled, or in some rare cases, the P3D CONTENT item must be reinstalled to clear old ASCA content from the actual simulator installation location

– [12/13/20] Fixed potential slow wind smoothing issue

– [12/13/20] Fixed sky conditions icon discrepancy in conditions screen when in EA mode

NOTE: For ASCA compatibility, ASCA Build 7660+ must be installed.  New ASP3D users: Before updating, please perform an uninstallation of ASCA to clear any potential conflicting content.  Then install the latest ASCA full installation and optional HD content from our downloads page at https://hifisimtech.com/downloads.
