Raid 01 by Volcano

“Dustdevil Raid”

1) Situation: Visibility is limited to 1000m as a result of a two day old sand storm. The sand storn has gradually lifted to such a degree that command thinks an attack is possible.

a) Enemy:
Intelligence estimates enemy forces to be composed of two defensive belts around Talil Airfield manned by two rifle companies. The second defensive belt is backed up by a motorized rifle company. There are reports that additional motorized rifle companies are also operating in the vacinity. Intel estimates that once we make contact with the first defensive belt the enemy will gradually reinforce and sweep the area with his mobile reserves. The sand storm will give us a key advantage in allowing us to engage the enemy well before they will be able to see us.

b) Friendly:
Your forces consist of A/1-1 CAV “Apaches” made up of two M1A1(HA) MBT platoons and two M3A2 IFV platoons.

2) Mission:
A troop, 1-1 Cavalry will conduct a raid on the Talil Airfield with the intent of capturing a Quds Force high value target (HVT). Intel has determined that the HVT is an upper echelon commander and he is currently located at the airfield, waiting for the sand storm to end. We are unable to conduct a conventional attack on his position because of the risk of killing him. Air defense in the area is too dense so it rules out an airmobile raid on the airfield.

The recent sand storm will provide a perfect opportunity for us to launch a surprise ground raid. Speed is critical as we do not have a lot of time to get in and sieze the HVT before the element of surprise is lost. Once the HVT is secured, move to the extraction zone which is beyond the range of the enemy’s air defenses. You will then need to radio the choppers who are on station awaiting your signal for HVT extraction (trigger 1). Last night our special forcers infiltrated the first defensive belt and they have marked the extraction zone with thermal panels for easy recognition.

Time of insertion and time of HVT extraction can be no longer than 50 minutes. After this point, intelligence reports the enemy will have firmly reinforced the area preventing any possibility of extraction.
